Keller is the one I don't get. The Twins have a weird ownership situation, the Nats have an unsettled FO, and the Marlins could strike gold this offseason if Cabrera and Alcantara end the year healthy.
The Pirates? Keller is a decent controllable starter on a horsefeathers team that has zero hope of competing in the next two years and his value will only decline. What the hell are they doing?
By my count, the big SPs who were targets this deadline who were not moved are:
Cease, Keller, Ryan, Gore, Cabrera, Alcantara, Gallen
Anyone else I'm missing?
Do it all guy who isn't crap at the plate and can give half the position players a breather when needed.
He's not a starter, but he's an immediate upgrade over Berti by a country mile.
It's also well within the realm of possibility that Jed put a bunch of take it or leave it offers on the table for teams like the Twins and Nationals which won't be withdrawn until the deadline.
Maybe Minnesota and Washington are shopping around trying to get better deals for Gore/Ryan, but if those offers are open, all it will take is a phone call to make it happen.
You know the old saying, if you truly love something with a degenerative ankle issue, let it go, because man, it can't walk far with that kind of a limp.
Nah. Bally is the sort of prospect who would be a hard pass for teams that value athleticism and defense. He should have a productive career, but his value plummets if you see him as a full time DH.
I'd also take these "X team would NEVER trade this prospect!" statements with a grain of salt.
