  1. Tie it in the 9th, but leave a man on 3rd despite having less than 2 outs and lose in extras.
  2. This board is going to be insufferable next year when Owen Caissie starts his career hitting .079 with eighty million Ks in his first 50 plate appearances.
  3. Anyone catch Brandon Johnson on The Score? I caught the tail end of it, but it sounded like he was still pushing hard for the Bears to go forward with a lakefront stadium deal, despite seeing the writing on the wall, and claimed the Bears had offered some financial sweeteners in paying down the debt from the 2003 Soldier Field renovations.
  4. Check the time/date for posting! Gallagher was also listed, so yeah, apparently I should get a job in Minnesota? 🤷‍♂️
  5. It's an annoying TDL-related thought because the Cubs did not get a top end SP for the rotation, but a healthy Birdsell opens up some intriguing possibilities down the stretch. I'd want to see him get another two starts in AAA, but he might be part of the solution to managing Boyd and Horton's innings going into the playoffs.
  6. Baseball is dumb, but sometimes it's dumb in a good way.
  7. Can't wait to find out how the Cubs strand Shaw on 3rd this inning!
  8. More the latter. Someone did a breakdown elsewhere, but Horton's current lack of Ks can be attributed to his fastball. Hitters in the majors seem to be doing a good job of picking up on it and making contact (even if it's foul balls), so it's not really a strikeout pitch despite its velocity as things currently stand. As a result, he has to play off his fastball with his change (which is devastating) and his breaking pitches (which are still a bit of a work in progress), and if his fastball isn't working super great, everything else falls apart. I'd be really, really, really curious to see what the PitchF/X has to say about it, but my hunch is he has a bit of Kyle Farnsworth in him, where his fastball does not generate a whole lot of movement and he has to rely on location with it to avoid getting walloped in the zone.
  9. Can Castro also sub for Dansby for a few games while he's also subbing for Seiya and Happ?
  10. This recent trend of "score a few runs early, but fail to deliver a killshot, and then go back to bed" is really aggravating.
  11. My only supposition is Hoyer might also think he has a better chance of landing a top tier SP in the offseason when teams in contention might be more willing to deal, much like with Tucker and the Astros last season, and that could ease the asks on guys like Gore and Ryan if, say, a team like the Reds were willing to listen on offers involving Lodolo (hypothetical). I'm not thrilled with that supposition, but that's all I got right now.
  12. AQI is once again for horsefeathers today. Anyone running the bases would likely have a healthier outcome if they smoked a pack of Marlboro reds.
  13. I kinda wish there was an option to make the grade + or -. On the one hand, the Cubs addressed depth across the board with rock solid additions. I can't give them an F on that basis, since they needed a top bench bat with positional flexibility, help at back of the bullpen, and rotation depth, and they got the right guys for those areas. On the other hand, the lack of a top end SP is a killer. I get that prices were a bit out of control and a ton of guys were not traded, so I can't fail them for getting someone who wasn't traded, but it hurts. That being said, there were a lot of high quality RPs who were available and traded, and I think the Cubs might have missed out in adding depth to their bullpen. I went with C, but I'd go with C- if that were a choice.
  14. Iffy. He's closer to surgery than Horton is, so it's likely he's on a tighter leash.
  15. Keller is the one I don't get. The Twins have a weird ownership situation, the Nats have an unsettled FO, and the Marlins could strike gold this offseason if Cabrera and Alcantara end the year healthy. The Pirates? Keller is a decent controllable starter on a horsefeathers team that has zero hope of competing in the next two years and his value will only decline. What the hell are they doing?
  16. TFW your division rival makes the moves you should have made at the deadline.
  17. Hasn't been made official and the rumblings on social media is it's not done.
  18. By my count, the big SPs who were targets this deadline who were not moved are: Cease, Keller, Ryan, Gore, Cabrera, Alcantara, Gallen Anyone else I'm missing?
