Their keeping the powder dry for a trade deadline acquisition :) It is pathetic tho. Probably what…top 5 in ticket prices? Ridiculous 2nd I believe. Plus they own like 70% of the businesses adjacent to the park. Plus they got their TV network that was promised to bring revenue that goes back to the team. The Ricketts family are grifters and there are still people on Twitter defending them having a below average payroll for the 7th time in 11 seasons. -
Sportrac has the Cubs current payroll at $121m, 15th in baseball. Pathetic to think they couldn’t add his salary.

Some of this info isn’t exact because some sites have opening day payroll, some calculate with the changes throughout the year but since Theo Epstein was hired in 2012 the Cubs have operated on average the 11th largest payroll in the league. Yeesh

Cubs really gonna run a $140m payroll out there aren’t they? That he didn’t come here is whatever. But to not be able to do better than 3/$105 from the small market twins is pathetic. Top 10 position player in baseball arguably and those poor broke Cubs couldn’t handle a fiscally smart contract like that.

There’s no guarantee that Lonzo will be back this year at this point. Sounds like his recovery is going much slower than anticipated

I was at an airport lounge in Seattle once and Clayton was sitting about 5 feet from me giving an update for Sportscenter over the phone. Didn’t say hi but he seemed like a good dude. The mystery over the ponytail was hilarious. RIP

Of the 8 games with 4/5 seeds, 6 were yesterday, which means today is heavier on 1/2/3 seeds (higher chance of blowout) and therefore 6/7/8 (evenly matched power conference teams). Not a hard and fast rule(see Kentucky), but probably not a coincidence the Illinois game is the first interesting one. Should have found a way to even that out better. I miss when they used to play one side of the bracket one day and the other side the next day

This is the worst round of 64 day I’ve ever seen. 7 of the first 8 games were blowouts, so far all 3 of the night games have teams up double digits in the first half. Of the games completed so far there have only been 2 upsets, both high major teams (Notre Dame and Miami). So lucky yesterday was amazing but I keep waiting for a game to jump into and everything is a blowout all day Edit: as I say this Illinois is waking up as is CS-Fullerton

So nice of him to say after the fans booed him his first year then openly questioned his injuries, then management traded him away for teenagers after a Cy Young caliber season. Sorry this is a pretty negative take, I'm jaded. There were some great moments in 2019-2020 that clearly endeared him to the fanbase. But I was wondering if Suzuki did talk to Yu and if so what he would say. -
Nice haul but one of those where you hope those draft picks land you someone as good as Hagel

Weird deal. $5m signing bonus and $7m in the first year before jumping up in year 2. Guessing structured to sign more players but the Cubs currently have a mid-market team payroll -

Call me crazy but I think he’s going to the Orioles. Sounds like a situation where they are going to overpay to get him to come there and will sell him on their farm system and being ready to contend in 1-2 years. It makes too much sense.

Bears signed a couple of mediocre almost scrap heap WRs today. Seems like they are not going to go big there and/or it will be a priority in the draft. I’m glad they are putting a lot of focus on the OL but with the moves the Bears made with the defense I figured they would go all in to ensure Fields is in the best position to succeed. I’m not sure if that will be the case with a WR group of Mooney, 2nd round pick, Pringle, and St. Brown

Lately, it seems, teams with early exits from the BTT have performed better in NCAA, leaves you to wonder the utility of the BTT besides it being a money making venture. Wouldn't be shocking at all to see the Illini and other teams that lost early in the BTT go further in the NCAA than Iowa or Purdue. Having experienced 2017 and 2018 Michigan I still have a hard time seeing this as a thing, but there you go...Iowa goes down. Of course Richmond also had to win 4 games in 4 days in their conference tournament.

I made a point to try and keep up on as much as I could this week, because I'm pretty sure if I didn't, baseball would fall into the NHL group of "no idea who plays for who" and I would never really get it back. I have a harder and harder time keeping up as time goes on. When I was in college friends would quiz me like "who is the 8th inning guy for the Marlins?" and I would always have the answer. Now it seems like the Cubs acquire 2-3 established major leaguers a year and I have no idea who they are. I should get back into fantasy again but that still wouldn't help with the bench players and middle relievers
