Didn't they just trade an elite 3B for pennies on the dollar? This makes no sense. But then again, the Rockies had a regime change at GM and apparently this one is more aggressive about throwing money around to improve

So the Cubs are already down one of their projected top relievers for the season, one of their starters for an unknown period of time, and one of their best hitters (I know not saying much) for potentially the start of the season.

Super on point with several of these but missed on the First Four games, though I agree with your seedings there more than the committee's. San Diego St/Michigan as a 6/11 was a good call but that would have been a rematch of a regular season game which I'm pretty sure isn't allowed in the 1st round. Instead they got another MWC team. Missed on Oklahoma (like I figured) and A&M (who I took from way out of the bracket to well in the bracket, maybe too hasty), instead the committee went with Wyoming (who I had in until Richmond won) and Rutgers (who I continue not to understand and expect them to lose Tuesday). Feels like the committee had no idea what to do with Rutgers' strange resume and figured the best place to put them was Dayton where they could prove their way in. Of course I thought the same thing would happen with Michigan's strange resume, though probably a little less strange as they limited their bad losses and their mediocre record is directly tied to the number 7 SOS in the country. they played 15 Q1 games vs. 3 Q4 games. You take 3 of those Q1 games and make them Q4 instead and Michigan's record is a lot more reasonable and their metrics don't suffer a ton, just a bit.

I felt like there were 6 teams for 5 spots closely bunched togehter - ND, Indiana, Rutgers, Wyoming, Michigan and A&M. Shocks me that not only did A&M not make it but they were what, the 3rd team out? I would say I'm dubious that Dayton was really their 1st team out and its sort of an olive branch for mid-majors, but with the COVID alternates in place that simply cant be the case even if its unlikely anyone has a covid outbreak and can't play. Sorry...I would have had them in over Wyoming or ND, maybe even Michigan but my homerism wont let me fully embrace that.

The Pirates actually had three straight WC games. They won the first one before losing 3-2 to St Louis in the NLDS. Right, they went 1-2 those WCG and thus only played in the one real series. In those 3 years they had the 3rd best record in the NL, 4th best and 2nd best and they didn’t have much to show for all the winning

I agree with this take. There's little difference in variance anyway, so go all in with it. I will concede that it's nice that the higher seed gets all 3 home games, even if that's really just a result of needing to avoid travel days to cram the games in. I'm the board's resident hater of the 1 game playoff so I love this. Even if the variance doesn't change much, I still like the idea of feeling like you are actually in the playoffs even if you lose. I keep forgetting the 2018 Cubs were technically in the playoffs because it really didn't feel like it. Give me a 3 game series and I'm happy. Sure for all games where the Cubs aren't involved, the 1 game playoff is fun to watch but also feels crappy for the fans. It took the Pirates like 20 years to get their crap together and make the playoffs. Built a nice young core and all they got to show for it is 1 real playoff series before it was dismantled. Just think 162 games of success leading to 1 playoff game is such a bummer for those teams. But I know I'm in the minority here.

That was kind of my concern too. I haven't heard of either of them being open to a new position, and it wouldn't make sense to sign Simmons for a defensive boost if you planned on moving him to a new position. -
