  1. Amazing 13 All Star games have previously gone into extras and only 3 in the last 18 years so it might be awhile until we actually see this happen but seems like a fun way to end an exhibition game
  2. So is the plan to give Fields tools to be successful next year to ensure we develop him and/or have him show us he's the guy moving forward, and assuming he is we will try to capitalize on the last 2 years of his rookie deal by making big strides in 2023 and 2024? I am fine with a rebuild/retool but given Fields' contract would like it to be somewhat accelerated if possible
  3. Pretty soon the entire season is going to be entirely on one of 36 paid streaming platforms. https://twitter.com/jareddiamond/status/1502399288869109765
  4. Not bad for Buck. Almost certainly getting a raise and instead of doing a Thursday and Sunday game plus playoffs and occasional Super Bowl he just does 1 Monday broadcast a week through the Wild Card round. Is he still under contract for baseball with FOX or is that over too?
  5. Maybe the Cubs should get involved and Kap can finally wear that jersey
  6. Good stuff TT. I remembered that we got Frazier and obviously Stroman. Gomes was the one I forgot. There are twitter rumors that 6-8 deals have already been agreed to but for whatever reason haven't been announced yet. If true I wonder if the Cubs are involved in any of those signings.
  7. I wonder how many of these moves, if any, Pace would have made if he was retained. Trevathan and Cohen probably. I feel like would have kept Cohen (unless the medical reports are dire) because he doesn't understand or care about the concept of sunk cost
  8. I wonder how many of these moves, if any, Pace would have made if he was retained.
  9. Saw this yesterday because people were complaining that we got less for Mack than what the Broncos got for Von Miller
  10. So there's this, but KC also later reports that Caruso has not yet been ruled out for tomorrow's game. My guess is he doesn't play tomorrow but he's pretty close. Williams also participated in all non-contact portions of practice
  11. I’m confused. What about in a scenario like 2018 where the Cubs and Brewers tied for the best record in the NL? Which team would get a bye and which would have to play an entire extra round? They’d have tiebreakers similar to other leagues. H2H would certainly be first. Maybe division record after that. That sounds terrible. A tiebreaker to see who gets to play one less round of playoffs? Don’t like it
  12. Guess Rizzo isn’t signing with the Jays
  13. Holy crap, balanced schedules and you play all 29 other teams at least once a year? I still hope teams play more games against their division than anyone else. Maybe not as many as before. If they don’t, what’s the point of divisions?
  14. Don't like it but was expecting it to be worse so I'll take it. Regular season still very much matters There’s no more Game 163 tiebreakers either because of the 3 game first round. I’m confused. What about in a scenario like 2018 where the Cubs and Brewers tied for the best record in the NL? Which team would get a bye and which would have to play an entire extra round?
  15. I don't want Nick Ahmed simply because something called the "Nick Ahmed game" exists. I don't even remember what he did in that game to kill the Cubs, just that he sucks for it.
  16. Say goodbye to the wild card games, now a best of 3 round
  17. this doesn't really save money though It's what, $6m in cap space this year? Then of course it's off the books for next offseason as well. I don't have a problem moving on from him. It was going to happen either this year or next, might as well pull the bandaid. But a 2nd this year, and a 6th next year is barely anything. It allows you to sign a 3rd receiver type. He and Robinson were the two guys I thought most visibly quit on Nagy, FWIW. What do you think we should have gotten for Mack given a couple of down-ish seasons? I think a 2nd and a midround pick is probably his value with the size of his contract. The future 6th rounder not great though. Should have been a 3 or a 4 and preferably in this draft. Couldn't the Bears have thrown in like a 6th round pick to bump the 2nd pick up a few rounds? I do agree that it seems like Mack quit on Nagy to some degree, but I'm not sure the trade market cares about that.
  18. this doesn't really save money though How so? I'm sure you are right but not sure how trading a huge cap hit doesn't save money? Is there some sort of cap penalty for trading him?
  19. Yeah I dunno the more I think about it I don't hate it. Certainly not out on Poles. I would have preferred to keep him for sure but it's a sensible move IMO.
  20. Not sure how I feel about it. First reaction is very bad. Second reaction is Poles knows he needs to rebuild and is not in a great cap situation and has no draft picks. Mack is an expensive player and one of our best trade pieces so I guess we should have always expected this to happen.
  21. They imploded like they have all year in the 2nd half. It's an ongoing trend. Once they start imploding they cant stop. Just ask North Carolina, UCF, Seton Hall, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio State. There was like a 10 minute stretch in that collapse where they had more turnovers than shot attempts (all missed). And many of those turnovers were like dribbling off their foot, slipping and falling, passing to a cutting player that doesn't cut, etc. I mean for sure give Indiana credit, their season was on the brink and they responded but I do tend to feel like once the ball started rolling Michigan basically collapsed. I do think Devante Jones twisted his ankle right before the collapse and that played into it. He was regularly getting in the paint before that but couldn't do anything and had a couple of bad turnovers because he couldn't plant his foot correct. All I'm saying is that Phil Martelli coached Michigan team had literally 0 problems in the 2nd half of games. JH is back and whoops, 36-9 collapse. (this is the part I expect sneaky to torch me over lol) i had a work meeting so i missed everything after they cut our lead down to 8 but does seem you're crafting a little bit of a silly narrative You know me lol. This post was my mind knowing its going irrational places but unable to stop it. That said, there is a clear pattern of Michigan collapsing in the 2nd half this year. Not every game but enough where you can't ignore it being a "thing". Whether that's coaching, players, the opponent, etc. that I'm not sure. They sure did look more in control of things with Martelli but a 5 game sample size is not enough to draw any real conclusions. In actuality, this is likely just a mediocre team that cant put things together long enough to be consistently succcessful
  22. Someone tell Jed to stop spanking it and get to work.
  23. I can live with contracting all 4 teams
  24. There was a rumor maybe 3 weeks ago that the Cubs were planning to offer Rizzo a contract as soon as the lockout was over. Should find out pretty quickly if that's true. Lost a little respect for him with his vaccination issues but would still love to have him back, especially if the shift is banned. IIRC, Rizzo was the most shifted player in the majors over the last couple of seasons.
  25. Don't know what happened today, looked very good for about 3/4 of the game, Indiana played good D but, quite a bit of the loss is on Michigan. Really did want the Illini playing an improving Michigan team thought they'd be a tougher match up than Indiana. Although I believe the Hoosiers are going to be a big challenge for the Illini tomorrow. They imploded like they have all year in the 2nd half. It's an ongoing trend. Once they start imploding they cant stop. Just ask North Carolina, UCF, Seton Hall, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio State.
