  1. I found this interesting: https://www.sportsmockery.com/chicago-bears/why-matt-eberflus-ryan-poles-finally-gave-the-real-reason/ (Yes sports mockery but its not reporting, its taking pieces from an Athletic story: https://theathletic.com/3570776/2022/09/07/ryan-poles-bears-general-manager/) Not sure why its all caps but whatever. So basically he wants to rebuild a Lovie style Bears team with maybe a good QB this time?
  2. wtf is going on with them? They've been so bad except the one match that I'm like disappointed that my lowly Everton could only produce a scoreless draw against them.
  3. That sounds like Close not wanting to sound like a pushover and does nothing for Freeman at all. It would once again be an agent acting in his own best interest over his client's. Most likely yes, but there's probably shades of gray. What if in my example it's actually 1 AM on Day X that the final offer comes from Atlanta, as one hypothetical. The idea is that in order for Close to reflect his client's wishes(in this case on decision timing), he may have to create ultimately arbitrary limits to ensure all the logistics are in order, and that creates room for there to technically be a time where Atlanta sends an offer(whether that's a detailed contract or a text message with years/dollars) that is after that limit but before Freeman deciding or signing with LA. Or maybe he's getting a kickback from the Dodgers. I'm mostly just thinking out loud. Now Gottlieb is completely retracting his report.
  4. 2 hitless innings by Wesneski so far, Happ and Seiya have homers. Cubs up 5-3
  5. That’s what I said. When I saw people posting about it on Twitter I assumed they were an opening act for someone else
  6. I didn't have too much of an issue with the comments. It sounds like he understands the importance of analytics and data, he just doesn't want people in the dugout dispensing that advice as he'd prefer that he and his coaching staff discern the info and distribute it. BUT while I understand it, I don't agree with his take on it. As mul21 said, there's just no way that a manager or their coaching staff can absorb all that information and make sure it gets to the players. Easy to be lost in translation or forgotten altogether. But this doesn't necessarily seem like an attack on analytics, just about the role of the manager in today's game. It's not an insane opinion, it just seems to go against the direction baseball is headed. You had a very solid career Joe, but it sounds like your managerial days are over.
  7. Apparently this is a new strain created 3 years ago that is designed to withstand cold weather. Yea I ended up going down the rabbit hole of this yesterday, but it seems like even these new strains top out around I-70 as a N/S divider. I don't think it's uncommon for them to do one re-sodding, but the first three home games gets them through October. 4th home game is 11/6, with two in a row. So that grass either gets them through November (first 5 games) or is only for the first 3 games. But even if they got 5 games before transitioning to a cool weather grass they're re-sodding in mid November? Yeah interesting point. Their home schedule is very back heavy. So maybe they are experimenting with this during a lighter portion of the schedule and can resod and still have their normal grass for a majority of the schedule. Who knows
  8. Entire Bears open letter: Are they trying to remain noncommittal on building at Arlington Park because the deal is not closed yet and/or on the off chase that the city blows them away with an offer to remain in the city?
  9. Warm weather grass in Chicago. Bold move. I know they'll resod at some point regardless, but seems odd. Apparently this is a new strain created 3 years ago that is designed to withstand cold weather.
  10. Bears release renderings for development within Arlington Park, but I'm guessing are leaving the stadium reveal for Thursday's meeting. Edit: Also important https://twitter.com/CEmma670/status/1567214646070808578?s=20&t=E9jx_0Vd5T4G3BFghJAAUg What do they mean by partnering with 'various governmental bodies to secure additional funding'? Isn't that the same thing as public funding?
  11. These last two seasons he’s been a Hall of Fame bat and an All-Star pitcher in the same body. It’s unbelievable what he’s doing. It’s even more unbelievable that the Angels have ridden a healthy Ohtani and Trout to a 59-76 record this year. Just 2 1/2 games better than the Cubs. More: Ohtani is the Angels qualified leader in BA, HR, RBI, OBP, RBI, Wins, ERA and Strikeouts
  12. This was reported a few weeks ago but at least they are re-sodding it as soon as they can after last nights Rammstein concert. Wonder if Bermuda grass will make any difference
  13. Or why Ross was outsmarted to having a lefty face Pujols. He hits like Zach McKinstry against righties and…well prime Albert Pujols against lefties. And then starting him out with 2 high fastballs was just asking for trouble
  14. The most obvious Pujols Homer against the Cubs since Mike Remlinger was pitching
  15. Kelechi Osemele, who is a Pro bowl guard in 2016 and 2017 coming off an injury where he tore tendons in both knees in 2020, worked out with the Bears last week and tweeted this today: He's 33 and hasn't played in 2 years so I wouldn't get too excited but might be good depth to have, and/or another lottery ticket.
  16. I thought the same way about Fields when he was at OSU. Obviously, he turned out ok. Yeah he turned out ok *looks around nervously*
  17. Is it just my OSU bias or does Stroud seem like the most inconsistent good QB in the country? Dude makes some amazing throws that most QBs cant make but also makes just as many inaccurate passes.
  18. The Cubs have to be near some sort of record of most games lost when taking a first score lead in the first 2 innings.
  19. I mean ratings are meaningless right now, but like most years there's probably a gigantic gap between the top 2-3 and the rest. (though maybe they are much closer based on how things have gone so far tonight) They definitely should. Big Ten seems to be scared of scheduling MAC teams lately. In this case, Michigan dropped the UCLA games in late 2019, not sure who had an open date that close to this season. I don't think Michigan is thrilled with playing UConn, but they care more about the extra home game revenues next year.
  20. Well at least this weekend ends the stretch of 18 straight games against playoff contenders. After that only 6 more left (3 at Mets and 3 vs Phillies)
  21. I'm still so confused why Fox took PSU-Purdue instead of OSU-ND for Joe Buck. I guess less competition on Thursday night than Saturday night but still...this is by far the marquee game of the weekend. Fox might laugh last though if OSU wins by 35 and the other game ended up being really good.
  22. Unfortunately Mr. Career-season-at-age-35 hit a 2 run HR so its 3-2 in the 1st.
  23. Anyways, about Michigan. Michigan's 2 headed QB experiment is probably going exactly how they wanted it to go. Cade was inaccurate and was either given no chances to throw downfield or was not seeing people downfield. He looked bothered by the competition and made some comments about it after the game. Meanwhile JJ got some garbage time action in and showed everyone the added dimension he brings to the game. While I do think that Cade and JJ may have been neck and neck in camp, I definitely think this was set up for JJ to win the job unless Cade just crushed it. Tough situation since they both have the same eligibility remaining and clearly neither is going to be satisfied being the backup. But it seems like McCarthy is going to be the QB after next week unless he really falls flat on his face.
  24. Isn’t that what top 10 teams do to G5 schools? Or is this a knock on schedule, which is the only year I can ever remember Michigan not playing a P5/ND NC game. The latter. You won't have to wait long to see them do it again, it's happening again next year Yeah dropped a home and home against UCLA for...reasons. I doubt its because Michigan shied away from competition considering they have a long history of scheduling a fair NC schedule. They do it one year and suddenly they're an SEC team or something. Personally I hate that its like this the next 2 years but I doubt its a trend. You mentioned ND's NC is bad the next couple of years. Why wouldn't UM and ND have scheduled a game for next year?
