  1. That doesn't mean Gordon wasn't BPA for Poles. I don't think any FOs rely on PFF rankings to determine their drafting I never said it was for Poles....hell I never said Poles drafted BPA and I'm not sure he did I'm not even sure what you are saying anymore lol You: Bears should have drafted BPA Me: Gordon may have been BPA for Poles You: But PFF has other guys higher Me: Gordon may have been BPA for Poles You: I never said Poles drafted BPA
  2. You say the best policy is BPA but in the next sentence say the Bears should have drafted a WR. Which is it? My understanding is Gordon was BPA for them based on their board entering the 2nd round. Also seems silly to call Gordon a wiff after 2 games, even with how bad he's looked. Edit: Wrigley just basically said the same thing. Anyways I'm not sure any of the WRs picked between Gordon and Velus Jones are worth lamenting right now (yes even Pickens). But like with Gordon there's still plenty of time to be wrong on that. So far the 6 have combined for 4 receptions in 2 weeks (though one is on IR and another has leukemia) should have been in retrospect, could have been during the draft. Gordon wasn't BPA, PFF had our own Brisker as well as Pickens and Tolbert higher then Gordon That doesn't mean Gordon wasn't BPA for Poles. 3. I couldn't believe how many Bears fans online were talking themselves into winning against GB. Even ones I wouldn't consider homers were jacked up about the game and seemingly thought we would at least make it a very competitive game. But like you said, I think a lot of the 'gutted' feeling has as much to do with Fields' performance as the outcome of the game.

  5. Russell Wilson was 14-31 for 219 yards, 1/1 and a 66.4 QB rating last week. Not sure if the Texans pass D is any good or if this is an anomaly though.

    NFL Week 2

Good news: Bears still tied for first! Bad news: Bears tied for last :(
  7. I wanted so bad to be the first one to say something like this but I was saving it for at least one more week Haha. Hey, he hasn’t been good, it’s only week 2 and I’d love to see him play better and succeed but I find myself searching for positives. Week 5 may have been a little aggressive but if there are plays that can be made - and he’s simply not progressing and pulling the trigger - another move is necessary. You already know what Siemien can bring to the table which is adequate backup QB. Siemien will not start unless Fields is injured or he’s still garbage in week 16 and both parties have mutually agreed to move on after the season.
  8. I’m a bit lost on why this separates QB play from playcalling. I did see that Fields had the second highest Depth of Target in the league this week which immediately makes me question the validity of this statistic
  9. Just creating a thread to create one. Miley got hit hard in the 3rd
  10. Yea, you said it much better than I've tried to. We as fans are looking for hope. The coaching staff is trying to win games. The coaching staff believes the best way to reach its goal is to essentially make Fields make as few decisions as possible and throw as few passes as possible. We as fans (or at least, most of us) understand that success in the NFL all but requires top-tier quarterback play. We understand we're not getting that now and that it's highly unlikely we'll get that at any point this season. But it'd be nice to know if there is any chance we *ever* get that with Fields. I'd rather know the answer definitively--even if that answer is no--than scratch out 7 or 8 wins with gimmicky sets, an old-timey run-based approach, and 10 passing attempts a game. None of those things (individually or collectively) prove or disprove whether Justin Fields can actually be a starting NFL quarterback and would/will simply leave us back where we started--"too soon to tell," "needs more time," "can't evaluate him with this supporting cast," "needs an opportunity to show what we can do in a 'real' offense," etc. etc. etc. This doesn't make sense though. Eberflus was hired presumably knowing what Poles plan was the first couple of seasons. It doesn't take a genius to know that step one of building an NFL team is to get the QB right. So while he absolutely should be trying to win, I don't think he should be doing it at the expense of what should be the organization's priority number 1 - develop Fields. Even if you don't believe in him - this is basically a free year to evaluate. Maybe you'll surprise you and you'll get praised for fixing Fields and you can use your 1st round pick on a WR or something instead of a QB. But if Fields fails no one is going to hold it against them (unless they cut him loose and he becomes an elite QB elsewhere)
  11. This is what they mean by processing time. He sees St. Brown and if he pulls the trigger right away he's got 6. But he delays for a second and in that time it seems like the CB has recovered to close some of the gap and ultimately he doesn't think its a safe throw because if its underthrown its an INT. At least that's how I see it as a complete amateur film watcher. Beyond a doubt, nearly any other QB would have pulled the trigger, overthinking, lack of confidence, playing scared, fearing a TO, is not going to work. He should know that if he doesn't, he 's as good as gone. I'm talking myself more and more into the belief that they just need to let him play freely and sink or swim. I think back to the Browns preseason game (yes I know it was a meaningless preseason game with starters sitting) but you could just see Fields start to get comfortable after a few throws and then suddenly he was electric and confidently throwing bombs all over the field. I think back to the Steelers game last year. In the first half he struggled with a gameplan that didn't involve many passes, in the 2nd half he hit a couple of perfect throws and then became unstoppable. I think if you give someone only a handful of attempts to make something happen, they're going to play more tentatively and scared because the margin for error is razor thin (like WrigleyField22 said). It certainly seems like the case with Fields.

  13. For those that care about PFF grades, for the 2nd week in a row Justin Fields was the lowest graded Bears player on offense. Top 3 offense: Ryan Griffin (TE) - 82.5 Khalil Herbert (RB) - 77.6 (on 8 snaps) Equanimeous St. Brown (WR) - 77.2 Bottom 3 offense: Justin Fields (QB) - 40.8 Cole Kmet (TE) - 47.0 Tevin Jenkins (OG) - 48.3 Top 3 defense: Justin Jones (DT) - 77.0 Trevis Gipson (DE) - 73.4 Kingsley Jonathan (DE) - 68.6 Bottom 3 defense: Angelo Blackson (DT) - 33.9 Kyler Gordon (CB) - 35.2 Roquan Smith (LB) - 36.00 Roquan was the lowest graded defensive player in week 1 so hey improvement.
  14. In TBs actual second year his WRs were Troy Brown, David Patten and Mark Edwards. His line was probably really good though. He had his share of struggles and several sub 200 yard passing games but that team won the Super Bowl so maybe its not the best comparison (i should probably delete bc I'm making a comparison that I'm not too serious about). But I do believe young developing QBs can still find success with subpar weapons. But you need a coaching staff that can put that QB in the best positon to succeed. I believe that too (QBs can succeed with sub par talent). That said, it's not knowable whether Brady would have succeeded with the Bears incredible lack of offensive talent in the passing game. So we just need to figure it out by watching him play the rest of the year. I think we're all in agreement on that. Yesterday was disconcerting, but it's not the end. Just going to have to go through these games and see where Fields lands after that. I think he'll get plenty of opportunities this year. Houston is 27th in the league in allowing 270 passing yards per game so far this year so this may be a good opportunity to open up the passing game a bit next week. 49ers and Packers were a tough first 2 opponents to play with a new offensive system and young QB.
  15. Kmet was the 1st TE taken that year, but I think was always thought of as being a second tier TE in a good TE draft year (does that make sense?). That being said, he doesnt seem to be improving, at all. Its concerning. He is JAG but he shouldn't be sitting there with goose eggs after 2 weeks. Dude had 60 catches for 600+ yards last year. Fields has done a lot of check downs and dump offs in the first 2 games but all to his RBs. I realize he's been asked to block a ton to compensate for a crappy pass block but when he's done blocking he should be able to leak out and be a security blanket for Fields. Instead I don't see him anywhere.
  16. tbf he just beat the Saints with Scotty Miller, Breshad Perriman, Russell Gage as his most targeted pass catchers and 40 years of experience with 10 superbowl wins (I'm clearly being sensational) If TB was in his 2nd year, would he succeed with this Bears roster? In TBs actual second year his WRs were Troy Brown, David Patten and Mark Edwards. His line was probably really good though. He had his share of struggles and several sub 200 yard passing games but that team won the Super Bowl so maybe its not the best comparison (i should probably delete bc I'm making a comparison that I'm not too serious about). But I do believe young developing QBs can still find success with subpar weapons. But you need a coaching staff that can put that QB in the best positon to succeed.
  17. Most likely there were tiny slivers of time where a WR was open. A great QB would find those slivers and connect on those passes. Every time I see one of those All-22 breakdowns on Fields they point out numerous scenarios where he was a tick late and it leads to incompletions or completions where more YAC could have been had if timed better (granted, I don't watch those videos for other QBs so this could be something these 'analysts' do with every QB). It all comes back to the concerns about processing speed and time to throw. If he cannot improve in those areas, he will be a failed QB. I am not sure how you can coach those issues away unless Fields just had a mental block/fear of making the wrong decision that's causing him to process longer than normal. If that's the case, building up his confidence is probably the best way to overcome it.
  18. I struggle between completely agreeing and wondering if it would destroy his confidence if he was getting sacked 8 times a game and forcing throws to receivers that aren't open. Ultimately I lean towards agreeing with you though.
  19. Kyler Gordon has been targeted 18 times so far this year. He's allowed 15 catches for 232 yards and a TD. One of the targets that wasn't a completion was a play where Kyler got beat but managed to recover and barely tip away a pass that would have been a sure TD. Rookie CBs often have trouble adjusting to the NFL and not a ton of non-1st round picks are asked to be a primary CB right out of the gate, so there is time to improve but damn what a horrible start for him. Speaking of that this is incredible even if it says as much about Kyler as it does Jaylon: They also didn't even run to his side of the field in the 1st half.
  20. Once I realized the Bears were going to get the ball back in a position to run a 2 minute drill, I got excited thinking maybe in a scenario like that he would at least be able to move the Bears downfield a little and show us something. Instead Play 1: Should have been intercepted, Play 2: intercepted. Yikes.
  21. What were the other 11? 3 sacks, 1 penalty for throwing the ball 3 yards in front of the LOS, 7 scrambles? Does this include RPO where Fields opted to run? Not that it matters, just flabbergasted at the thought of Fields being given a playcall to pass 22 times and only getting off a pass in half of them.
  22. Fields seemed pretty annoyed/frustrated in his post game presser. Got a lot of questions about the playcalling and he said something like “it’s not my job to call the plays, it’s my job to execute to the best of my abilities”
  23. The point is that it was called short on the field and replay rules have always been “clear and obvious evidence needed to overturn”. Based on the reviews I saw, I don’t think it’s clear and obvious at all. You're not correct about that. There was a view that showed the nose of the ball over the goal line live, they talked about it on air. It doesn't really matter at this point. The refs chose differently I don’t know what to say, I saw all the replay angles and didn’t see clear evidence that it crossed the line.
  24. I agree, I didn't understand why Bears fans were flipping out over that call. It may have slightly crossed over, but no way they are changing the call with the reviews we saw IMO. Bears fans should focus their ire on lining up in shotgun for a 1 inch sneak. "Slightly crossed over" is a TD That image from barstool is hardly the best look. Finding a better image is fruitless at this point, but it broke the plane The point is that it was called short on the field and replay rules have always been “clear and obvious evidence needed to overturn”. Based on the reviews I saw, I don’t think it’s clear and obvious at all.

lol probably not even my biggest overreaction of the day That said there’s still something funky with this Cardinals team. Hopefully this wakes them up (Kyler is my fantasy QB)
