Cubs win! Now 8-6 against the Brewers on the season. After years of being good but sucking against them, we're now bad but good against them. 10-4 in our last 14 games

random question but how are Brewers fans handling the fact that Christian Yelich is nowhere near as good as he was when he was cheating? They gave him a huge extension after a couple 7+ win seasons, and now he's a 1.5-2.5 win player. That's gotta suck.

Keegan Thompson is now the only person in the Cubs current rotation with an ERA above 4. He entered the month with a 3.16 ERA. Edit: Back down to 3.99!

If they dont want to shut him down can they move him into the pen for some infrequent long relief appearances or give him a short IL stint to rest his arm? I'm guessing they know what they're doing but he just seemed cooked out there his last handful of starts even when the results haven't been bad.

Feel like the constant pressure also led to the end of the drive with that dump off for a loss. He read blitz on the weak side and tried to get rid of it anticipating pressure, but the blitz never happened.

Damn, only 6-10 snaps? Isn't the 2nd preseason game basically the 3rd preseason game in the past? I don't expect to see the starters in the 3rd game (but maybe I'll be wrong). With a new offensive system, tons of new players, young QB etc. I would have expected more than 3-4 drives from the 1st team offense all preseason. That's less than even Nagy gave them (albeit he had 1 more game to play with)

The Ringer did an article ranking every NFL offense earlier this week and then another one ranking every defense using a bunch of FO stats. The Bears ranked 2nd to last on offense and dead last on defense. The offense ranking is whatever, I can understand why it looks bad, but kind of surprised with the defense. Clearly they aren't as good as last year and there are a lot of question marks, but I sort of expected a middle of the road defense, maybe in the 15-20 range, not 32nd. Am I way off here? I guess it depends on how the Roquan situation plays out and whether we keep Quinn and he plays anywhere near as well as last season. But we hired a defensive minded coach and used both of our second round draft picks on the secondary. There's still talent there. (note, the Bears rank 30th on offense but they declined to rank the Browns offense because of the Watson situation. Pretty sure they will be ranked higher than the Bears regardless of how it plays out)

Of the three, Kimbrel is really the dude I feel least strongly about. I left this out of the thread, but I really wonder if you could get Kimbrel cheaper than most other teams and so maybe it just makes sense to roll the dice. I’m leery of any pitcher the Dodgers can’t fix but maybe the Cubs really feel like they have the secret sauce. Britton and Estévez are really fun options and my personal favorites of the three. Kind of crazy that Kimbrel has been absolute garbage since the 2018 playoffs with the exception of 36 insanely good innings for the Cubs when we were looking to trade him. I know there's sample size stuff and ERA being a flawed stat but that 2021 Cubs ERA really jumps out 2019 CHC - 6.53 2020 CHC - 5.28 2021 CHC - 0.49 2021 CWS - 5.09 2022 LAD - 4.57 He was worth 2.5 wins during his 2021 stint with the Cubs and -1 win during the other 3.5 seasons.

Wonder if the Cubs are looking at him as potential future DH. His defensive metrics are absolutely terrible but as a pure hitter he could be useful

Getsy today said that there was only 1 play from Fields that he didn't like, and that was the play he should have drawn a late hit call. Said he scrambled too soon when his 2nd read was open. But otherwise a strong performance.
