  1. And they wiggle out of it again. 8 base runners allowed in 5 innings and none of them scored.
  2. And the 1st 2 batters of the 5th reach. Lets see how he wiggles out of this one. Edit: by being taken out of the game. very clever sir
  3. I'm not watching but it seems like he gets in trouble every inning but gets out of it. Like Rod Beck but as a starter.
  4. At his age, he will likely retire. I wouldn't sign him to any contract whatsoever. Why would he retire? 36 isn't young but not too old for a guy that isn't relying on overwhelming stuff and has been a strong starter of late (3.50 ERA over his last 5 seasons and he was pretty damn good the 4 starts he did make for the Cubs). I imagine as long as his injuries aren't career-threatening he will get some sort of offer. Possibly a NRI or minor league deal but I wouldn't be shocked if a team looking for starter depth offers him a major league deal.
  5. What are the chances that we can (or even want) to sign Miley for cheap after being injured basically all last season? He was great the rare times when he pitched. He might be had cheaply. Or are we past the point of needing to sign cheap lottery tickets and should just focus on a reliable mid-rotation pitcher in FA?
  6. that's super interesting. Do you have any articles that talk about this? I've always been a QB and lines (O and D) guy in terms of constructing a football team.
  7. It's like the zombie 00's Cardinals. Old players revitalized out of nowhere, players coming to St. Louis and suddenly becoming elite players. Do they have a little gritty dude who has no business being good but somehow is decent?
  8. Montgomery has a chance at a Maddux. 8 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 88 pitches And of course the only run scored in the game would have been a home run at no other park besides Wrigley and it was hit by a octogenarian
  9. It’s like Pujols found his old stash of Cardinal pixie dust tucked away somewhere in Busch Stadium and gave some to Goldschmidt.
  10. They all horsefeathering suck so it’s not even worth my time comparing. But yes leaving politics out of it id take Ricketts over JR. just need to decide if it’s worse to be an outward trump supporter or a quiet one.
  11. Holy crap, I assumed he was out of baseball by this point. Last pitched in the majors in 2018, pitched 1 inning for the Mets and gave up a run before being sent back down.
  12. From what I read, he actually sold them off years ago for charity. This is a second-hand person selling them.
  13. Bullpen comes in and immediately gives up 2 HRs
  14. Starting next year with Stroman, Steele, FA, Hendricks, Keegan with a handful of alternate options if Hendricks continues his decline actually sounds pretty damn great right about now.
  15. Maybe I’ve read too many “a league source says” stories but the perception out there seems to be that Smith is a very good, not great player at a non-premium position. It would be beneficial for him to prove that he is great going into FA or a franchise tag. not saying that will happen with a guy who is said to have maturity issues and is operating without the guidance of an agent but it makes all the sense in the world for him to ball out.
  16. I was thinking the Cubs had a tough matchup today against Woodruff but then realized that Steele has a lower season ERA with more IP
  17. Remember our old friend jamfan? Not taking this well
  18. It’s been pretty fun this month. Obviously it sucks to miss out on a top pick but I don’t hate the potential outcome of the Cubs playing well to finish the season and getting a lot of positive momentum going into the offseason. 2 of the big SS FAs (Correa and Turner) have already come out and said they aren’t going to a rebuilding team. Hopefully a strong finish gives the appearance of a team that’s not too far off.
  19. That kind of loss would make me so mad if it happened to the Cubs. Had a huge late HR to take the lead, then had a chance in 3 straight innings to end the game and blew it all 3 times.
  20. horsefeathers I don’t care if he’s walking after the year and is costing us draft position, I’m so horsefeathering happy we kept Willson Cubs win again. 11-4 in last 15
  21. Apparently he's just gonna play. No extension or anything? I'm guessing Poles set a deadline where if he didn't return to practice they would start fining him (or possibly even fining him for past missed practices). His trade demand probably stands but Poles doesn't have to fulfill it. Or maybe Smith reached some agreement where the Bears would try to trade him around the deadline and/or agreed to not franchise him after the year. Who knows. Weird situation all around. If the Bears are going to suck this year and he can be a UFA (unless franchised), I'd rather just trade him then make him play a meaningless season and walk.
  22. Strike 1 and strike 3 were great pitches. Probably should have been protecting the plate on that last one though. And the swing on the ball in the dirt wasn’t pretty.
  23. Agreed. I didn’t expect them to actually score until that ball cleared Wong’s glove, but the entire inning have been riveting. Several great ABs
  24. Wow that scrappy little dude Nicky 2 Strikes lived up to his name. Blown save on Williams
