  1. I did make a mistake. Dopiraks numbers in Lansing were amazing for one year and has struggled since. Patterson had a good year in 1999 then in 2000 and 2001 put up horrible numbers. I would think the two bad years out weigh the one good one. When it comes to Murton he has put up good numbers at every level, the great was a poor choice of words. As a 21 year old, second year player Corey put up an .829 OPS at West Tenn. It is true that his BA was low that season. But he drew just over a walk per 10 AB's (and got plunked an extra 10 times) & hit for very good power in a pitcher's league. While not as outstanding as his 1999 campaign in Lansing, that was still a very successful season for someone his age with his level of experience. However, how does his 2001 numbers warrant being called up and then in 2002 giving him the starting job? If he was that good of prospect was it that necessary to rush him up? Either way in my min the organization botched that up. I think he got called up likely because the Cubs were 'contending' in 2001 with Gary Matthews in CF who hit terribly. Thinking that they could win next year, and pleased with Corey's 4 HR and 14 RBI (Not hit barely over .600 OPS), they figured they would bring him up rather then sign a stop gap FA CF , leaving Corey without a spot to play.
  2. In my opinion, you could make a list of prospects once considered 'can't miss' in every organization that never pan out. Not sure if the number is proportionally higher in the Cubs organization, but you can use the lack of position players the Cubs have producted over the last 30 years as a key indicator.
  3. That was a tough call for Aramis there, I don't blame him for the play, but its funny how easily the Cubs can turn a runner on third with 0 outs into a runner on first with 2 outs.
  4. The initial post was a joke....I hope. I thought so too but then you have responses like Yeah it was obviously a joke, but other then the Murton for Trachel trade, I can see that trail of logic occuring.
  5. That game still hurts; I remember it very well. Another 6-run lead game that's still painful (I was at the game, surrounded by obnoxious Cardinal fans): http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B07200CHN2004.htm That game killed me. I left for work when the score was 7-2. When I got there and saw that the Cardinals took the lead, I pushed a huge stack of papers off a desk in anger. My coworkers (all Red Sox fans) looked at me like I was nuts. After that I was known as "Angry Cub fan", as I remain to this day.
  6. For a while in April and May, thats the only games they were winning....to lazy to check the stats.
  7. Oh well, we should win tomorrow. 1 out of 4 isnt that bad...
  8. As I was just saying on the game thread, what can Dusty say about Bynum's play that won't get criticized tomorrow? If he dismisses it as a regular play of the game, he will get criticized for favortism. If he says it was a mistake, then people will say he is biased against youngsters just like they said today. Basically, there is nothing he can say about a move like this that will be accepted. Oh well, shouldn't have sucked as a manager for the last 3 years and put himself in this situation.
  9. Hey you know the ropes. He's got to injure himself off the Cubs like everyone else.
  10. I'm sorry Cedeno your not a very good baseball player.
  11. Well, whatever Dusty says about that move, he'll get criticized tomorrow. If he says that, people will say he's favoring the people he likes. If he says he made a bad mistake, people will say he shouldn't call out the young players like the Theriot thread today. So, expect Dusty to get criticized tomorrow-I hope of the options though he says that it was a mistake, because that is the truth-and a bad one. Whatever he says, it won't be as direct and won't be as much of a "call out" as it was to Theriot. I look foward to reading the Sun Times tomorrow morning. If Dusty doesn't critizize Bynum the same as Theriot..he is a downright racist. It's a little different situation. Bynum got picked off at first with 1 out. Theriot got caught trying to steal third with 2 outs and the team's best power hitter up. Theirots mistake is no worse than Bynums. Theriot knowingly did something very dumb and lacking baseball logic. Bynum spaced out and screwed up. Different ways to do the same damage.

  13. Epitome of the Cubs 2006 season. Stupid idiots, they are playing like absolute crap again.
  14. Darts. Where's the Dusty dice picture when you need it
  15. Pierre sucks at stealing bases. He's clearly lost his confidence, as proven by his hesitation fake earlier in the inning.
  16. Is there any way to look up the number of times that a MI did not hit second this year? I'm pretty certain that Dusty is fixated on this.
  17. Out of curiosity Fred, you didn't call into the Boers and Bernstein show today around 4:30 CST did you? Someone named Fred that sounded a lot like you called in complaining about the Cubs young pitchers getting hurt.
  18. Oh man I was thisclose to buying a ticket, but I was trying to get a friend to go. Oh well...so you think there will be no DVD release of this movie?
  19. Cendeo has pretty much been an automatic out since June 31. man that is terrible Roughly 78% of the time yes.
  20. Nice knowing you Prior. Should never have signed with the Cubs...
  21. I remember the 2003 game so fondly. I was living in NH at the time so I didn't get the games (I was about a week away from discovering mlb.tv). So I left to do errands when it was 6-0, about an hour later, just out of chance I checked the game score on my cell phone and saw that it was 7-6. Thus led to for me a memorable moment of frantically refreshing my cell phone while driving down the highway and then when Alou gave the Cubs the lead I think I swerved all over the highway while celebrating. Good times.
  22. If O'Malley goes on the DL, which rotation is better, the healthys or the DLs? Prior Wood Miller Marshall Marmol O'Malley - Long Relief Eyre - Closer Zambrano Guzman Mateo Hill Rusch Aardsma Novoa Howry Dempster I forget the rest of the bullpen, who cares.
  23. Well played game as usual by the Cubs today.
