  1. Welcome to the board! ....oh wait its just CT
  2. ...if they want to lose money. Speaking of sports betting... Mansion.com is offering a free $1100 bet (to win $1000) on the Steelers for opening week. Basically, you deposit the money, bet it, and if you lose, they'll refund you the money w/no catch. If you win, you win. I guess it's a way for them to get people who have that much money laying around to sign up for their site. http://www.pocketfives.com/F74A2E89-5593-4AF0-8C62-E53D42FC7540.aspx The posters talking it up are pretty reputable on that forum. It does sound too good to be true, so I'm still mulling it over. Just thought I'd pass along the info if anyone wanted some free money, lol. Money that easy is not worth the risk that it backfires to me.
  3. Yes, I'm firmly on the Rich Hill bandwagon
  4. In all fairness to Neifi Perez, he has had an eleven year attempt at switch hitting that failed miserably and depressed his numbers significantly. Heh, I don't think switch hitting is the problem there....:)
  5. In all fairness, as Tim and others have pointed out, Theriot had a two year attempt at switch hitting that failed miserably and depressed his numbers significantly. True, I did read about that, but I don't think he is capable of putting up Dan Uggla power. I do believe he can be an asset to a major league team however.
  6. Well geez, not to burst the bubble, but Uggla had 21 HR and an .880 OPS in AA last year. Theriot has had 5 minor league HRs in his 6 year career and had a minor league OPS going into this year at .686
  7. If you mess with Moises, Urine trouble!! Sorry, I had to
  8. Boston is the 11th largest metropolitan area at 4.5 million. As for the rest of the season; it's a long Winter ahead, the Pats look mediocre this year, the Celtics stink, the Bruins play but no one will care when the Sox start back. People will show up the rest of the season and look forward to 6 months from now. How do you define metropolitan area? Any area big enough will get you a lot of people. Trust me, having lived there, it's tiny. It has a smaller fan base than most cities with teams, they simply go to more games... because there's nothing else to do... And fenway... trust me, you have to be die-hard to say you enjoy watching a game there... I've lived there too, the metro is pretty big its just more spaced out and less dense then Chicago. You also have to consider that all of New England has adopted the Red Sox as their team. That includes all of New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island, and half of Connecticut.
  9. Not according to this. Nice picture contributions. :D Oh well that page is likely wrong. As I'm sure you know, games typically start at 1PM and 4PM EST every sunday, meaning 12pm and 3pm. All the times listed on that page say 12pm and 3pm EST. I am guessing the EST part is incorrect. Edit: Quick trip to ESPN.com confirms http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/scoreboard?weekNumber=1&seasonYear=2006&seasonType=2
  10. 2:15 CST? You mean 3:15 CST? Any word on the starting QB  jk Bear Down! Chicago Bears! Make every play clear the way to victory Bear Down! Chicago Bears! Put up a fight with a might so fearlessly We'll never forget the way you thrilled the na-tion, with your T-formation Bear Down! Chicago Bears! And let them know why you're wearing the crown You're the pride and joy of Illinois, Chicago Bears Bear Down! Edit: My picture contribution to this thread: http://www.madison.com/images/articles/wsj/2005/12/04/22038_thumb.jpg http://i11.ebayimg.com/05/i/06/71/00/73_2.JPG http://chicago.comcastsportsnet.com/images/content/bears/vasher.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y139/Wolf451/daBEARS.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v219/bobwaters/bears00-3.jpg http://www.chicagobears.com/uploads/photos/perm/main/GDFNEELLLBBI/Urlacher_Favre.jpg
  11. Dumb question, but why are there no Premier League games scheduled between 8/28 and 9/9? Is it because of Champions or other league play?
  12. The funny (or sad) thing is, that I read their comments and I relive their hopelessness and remember that I am not a part of it anymore.
  13. New England and ESPN
  14. Just got back from the screening. Great movie. It made me laugh and during the playoffs it almost made me cry reliving those moments. I definitely think this movie has the opportunitiy to make some additional screenings in the local area or at the very least sell a good number of DVDs. It definitely shows what its like to be a Cubs fan, and some of the footage during the playoffs is one of a kind. I won't give anything away. Anyways WindyCity, I am not sure what role you had in producing the movie, or if you were in front of the camera or anything, but terrific job. Also, if you know Matt on a personal level, whatever happened with his girlfriend?
  15. What sort of names do you think will be out there on the trading block/FA market that could replace at least 75% Ramirez's production? -ARod, 3B/SS -Manny, OF -C. Lee, OF -Soriano, OF/Bad MI -Cabrera, 1B/3B/Corner OF -A Jones, CF -Burrell, Corner OF -Tejada, SS -Sweeney, 1B -Bonds (), LF Anyone I'm missing?
  16. The Red Sox have had a Cub-like couple of weeks with the health of their players. Ortiz has an irregular heart-beat, Lester could have a serious illness, Ramirez with a bum knee, Pena with a bad wrist... Their last week or so makes the Cubs look new and shiny by comparison. Irregular heart-beats and enlarged lymphnodes can potentially be serious in ways that transcend baseball. [insensitive sarcasm] At least boston has a pennant race to lose . . . [/insensitive sarcasm] And a World Series in the past 98 years to fall back on...in fact multiple
  17. 2 weeks of bad baseball and they are about ready to no show at Fenway http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2006/08/31/sox_tickets_suddenly_theyre_not_so_hot/ I don't know where I stand on the issue. On one hand, I applaud them for not putting up with crap baseball for even an extremely short period of time. You only wish Cub fans could do the same. On the other, 2 weeks of bad baseball two seasons after winning it all and you are going to stop supporting the team? You don't want to see a bunch of 'third string players'? How can you call yourselves great baseball fans if you won't support the team when its on a temporary downswing. I can see when Cubs fans are disgusted because we have been given mostly crap product over the past 98 seasons. The Red Sox however, have a philosophy that mostly works and produces winning teams.
  18. Hendry angrily denied that Dusty would go before the end of the season today in the Trib's game story...
  19. I'm pretty sure the Giants were up like 6-0 in that game too. I remember thinking 'uh oh, we'd better win this to force a playoff.' When the game ended and they showed Neifi's HR, I remember jumping up and down ecstatically, and then watching the WGN News where they showed people sprinting to Wrigley Field to get in line to buy tickets. The line was around the ballpark. And don't forget the Giants were all but out of it heading into the final games. The Mets were easily the Cubs chief competition until they faded and were swept by the Braves, who were just setting up their playoff rotation.
  20. That series was hands-down the most exciting regular season series I've ever watched. - Game 1, Cubs lose 13-11 even though they make an 8th and 9th inning push. Sammy hits 59. - Game 2, Cubs win 15-12 thanks to an RBI single from Tyler Houston and a walk-off HR from Orlando freaking Merced. Sammy hits 60. - Game 3, Cubs win 11-10 in extra innings thanks to a walkoff HR from Mark Grace. Sammy hits 61 and 62. The late-season additions of Gary Gaetti and GlenAllen deserve special mention. The Karchner for Garland trade on the other hand we probably want back. I was sitting in the bleachers for the second game of that series. I got beer poored on me throughout. After the game, fans littered the field with garbage...whens the last time you saw that happen by HAPPY fans!? Easily the best baseball game I've ever been to (even better than Z's almost no-no in Arizona in 2003) I remember after that series, someone reported that it was the first series where all 3 games both teams scored double digit runs. Not sure if its still an exclusive record or not...
  21. no but you know what they should do.....demote the 25 man roster to Iowa and see if they can win a PCL title. At least they'd (potentially) win SOMETING
