By the way, Neifi is saving the Tigers, before the got him they were 3-9 in their last 12. Once they got Neifi to start, the hitters realize that they had to all step up to make up for Neifi's patheticness, and thus 7 runs tonight despite the black hole. -

No. See this is what I don't get. I don't want to Americanize their game, but why not a playoff? Sure there is Champions Cup and the other one I'm forgetting, but wouldn't a playoff be a much greater incentive to make other teams be good? Sure securing an expensive transfer might not make your team #1, but if you are good enough to slide in at #4 (the last proposed playoff spot), then your fans are thrilled and you give your shot to beat Chelsea at a best of 3. Can anyone imagine a Man U - Man City series? Liverpool - Everton? I dunno maybe its my American passion for upsets and playoff systems. Just seems very dry to have every team play each other twice and then whoever has the most points at the end wins.

When I realized I don't get FSN it hurt to know my hopes of keeping up with the premiership were hindered. When I found out my adopted team Everton is not a high profile team (If I had to guess, I'd put them at like a Anaheim Angels level) and weren't on for week 1 (do they call it week X like the NFL?), I am crushed. Regardless, Everton looked ok from what I hear against a team that was just promoted. AJ scored a goal in his first game with the team! Somehow Liverpool, one of the supposed powers could not get more then one point against another just promoted team Sheffield United. That's nuts. As usual Chelsea (Red Sox) and Man U (Yankees) dominate their opponents and dominate the headlines. I am starting to realize that the economic disparity in the Premiership puts the supposed disparity in baseball to shame. Does any team other then Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal really come into a given season thinking that they have a shot at the title?

Here's another reason why the Cubs can't do it. Consider the .500 mark the barrometer for a WC (which of course is a bit of a stretch) Sure the Cubs have played decent lately, but during their little "run", they've played 7 games over .500 over a 25 game stretch (16-9). They would need to play 16 games over .500 over a 40 game stretch (28-12). And then pray that one of the 11 teams above us doesn't somehow play well enough to win 82 games. NOT. GONNA. HAPPEN :) -

I wouldn't mind Nevin at all if he was cheap to come off the bench and bring us some power. Question is, would be agree to be a bench player....in the past he has been rather upset when not playing everyday. Edit: And yes, Mabry is bad bad bad. He's alright defensively, and seems to be a smart player, but his bat speed is WAY down.

Well, Murton hitting 3rd is good...anyone after Jones is not. Considering Jocktacular hit .237 in July and .216 in August, I'd include Jones in the bad list. Basically theres 3 people in the lineup that are decent. Pierre, Murton, Ramirez.

Why are you ripping on Stone for suggesting that the Cubs get a catcher that can actually handle the pitching staff? If so the only logical thing to do with Barrett is move him to LF. I mean its not the best idea in the World but I'm all for having a defensive catcher back there. Maybe its just a fluke, but the pitching staff hasn't really been the same since 2003 when Miller left. And that is including the performances of the same pitchers from 2003.
