  1. Due up for the Cardinals: Brian Jordan Bernard Gilkey Mark McGwire
  2. Would you be pissed if Hoffpauir hit 37 home runs this year? Because that would be the same situation as Ludwick. No not mad but Ludwick was a second round pick with a lot of promise. I do not believe Hoffpauir was drafted in the first 10 rounds. All this points out is he was highly rearded and not some undrafted player...Barden was highly touted before he had the hernia issues as well. The Cards have been good about looking at players that others have neglegted to care about. Ludwick had a great year in the minors before the Cards got him. We're not talking about the potential some player had in 1998. We're talking about how said player was regarded the year they came up to the bigs and got their first real shot at playing everyday. Ludwich wasn't among the top 11 prospects in the Cards organization coming into 2008, thus he wasn't a high regarded prospect. Show me where someone projected a 1.000+ OPS for Ludwick anywhere. Even on the day he was drafted. It doesn't exist because he wasn't expected to do it. He was probably just as likely as Hoffpauir to randomly explode and hit 37 HRs
  3. Another Cards fan here. We are not irked by Fontenot and Theriot. But I doubt any Cubs fan is seriously irked by our no-named infielders. I wouldn't be irked either, except we can't seem to get Brian freaking Barden out! Arizona couldn't either. He's having a great road trip. Barden again. Like I said, he's having a great road trip. Good for him
  4. ? In real life, or did Pierre play on the Cardinals at some point I don't remember?
  5. There are a lot of 1st, 2nd, 3rd round picks that either flame out or have bad luck with injuries. They then because non-prospects. And then the rare 1% that make a comeback and start to rake are irritating for rivals of the teams they play on. I think it's just irritating because in the mid 2000's, the Cards were blessed with a middle of the order with Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen, Walker, etc. Then Edmonds declined and moved on, Rolen got hurt and moved on, and all the sudden it looked like the Cardinals had Pujols and a bunch of scrubs. And better yet, other than Rasmus they didn't seem to have anything in the minors to help them and their management wasn't opening up their pocketbooks to sign players. So Cubs fans breathe a sigh of relief.....and then watch as Ryan Ludwick comes out of nowhere and gives them another Pujols.
  6. Nice Geo Nice job by the genius to leave a lefty in to face Ramirez and Soto.
  7. but it doesn't feel like 3.77, whatever that's supposed to mean. Probably because we aren't scoring as many runs as last year. I have no way to prove this, but I would bet that a lot of that 4.16 was given up in mop up work with leads over 3 runs. How many leads over 3 runs have we had this year...2?
  8. I'm sure they are saying the same thing about the successes of Soto, Dempster, Marmol, Fontenot and Theriot. Marmol and Soto were top 10 prospects in the Cubs system at one time, Soto was even a top 75 prospect in all of baseball going into last season. Before his last year in the minors, Soto wasn't anything more than a middling prospect in the Cubs org projected to be a backup catcher in the bigs. The fact that all the sudden he had a breakout year at age 25, made the majors and won ROY still irks some Cards fans. No doubt Marmol was a top 10 prospect, but the way he took over the setup role and became arguably the best setup guy in baseball also irks Cards fans.
  9. I'm sure they are saying the same thing about the successes of Soto, Dempster, Marmol, Fontenot and Theriot.
  10. PJ Walters, Mitchell Boggs, Braden Looper, Todd Wellemeyer, it doesn't matter who it is. Maybe they should give Greg Paulus a start and see what happens.
  11. I wonder why the Trib did away with their "From the Cubicle " segments that they've been doing the last few years.
  12. Maybe the RH thing was overrated last year and the truth was we've built a team of hitters that can't hit breaking balls.
  13. This looks like the playoffs last year....slider away K, slider away K
  14. For the season this is how the Cubs have done with them loaded 4/8 T1 0 outs Ramirez, single, RBI T1 0 outs Fontenot, single, RBI T1 0 outs Theriot, single, RBI T1 0 outs Hill, GIDP T5 2 outs Ramirez, double, 2 RBI 4/11 T7 0 outs Hoffpauir K T7 1 out Soriano, FC (should have been GIDP), RBI 4/12 T4 1 out Hill, BB, RBI T4 1 out Dempster, GO T4 2 outs Soriano, BB, RBI T4 2 outs Fukudome, BB, RBI T4 2 outs Lee, BB, RBI T4 2 outs Johnson, GO 4/13 B2 0 outs Miles, PO B2 1 out Hill, BB, RBI B2 1 out Lilly, K B2 2 outs Soriano, K B3 2 outs Miles, PO B5 2 outs Theriot, FO 4/16 B6 1 out Bradley, K B6 2 outs Soriano, FO 4/17 B2 0 outs Soriano, K B2 1 out Fukudome, Sac Fly, RBI B2 2 outs Lee, K 12 runs scored in 9 loaded attempts. Anyone know if that's good? Seems kinda weird that there's only been one multiple RBI at bat this year with the bases loaded.
  15. It's early. Cardinals are hitting well and we're not.
  16. The Cardinals show the Cubs how you take advantage of the bases being loaded and less than 2 outs.
  17. Crap, probably should have scored more last inning.
  18. I know, it seems like whenever we get the bases loaded, we either get way too patient and take too many hittable pitches trying to draw a walk, or we tighten up and expand our strike zone trying to get anything in the air to drive in a run. It's like we lose the approach that got us the bases loaded in the first place.
  19. At least we got 1 this time... I didn't want to have to talk about how this is the 5th time this year in 10 games where we had a runner on third and 0 outs and didn't score a run.
  20. LOL...pitcher walks the pitcher on 4 pitches and Soriano goes up there hacking his first 3 pitches.
  21. That's Z's first regular season walk since 2006. He did take one in Game 2 of the NLDS last year.
