  1. i don't see the league having much of a problem with the packers this year, really. Heh, we'll see about that. I like being under the radar. It worked in 2007 and I'm hoping it works again this year. Heh, no kidding. I think everyone in Green Bay has a quiet confidence about this year. they are better than last years record and they are healthy. I haven't seen too many knowledgeable football fans count the Packers out this year. The only question is the adjustment to the 3-4 scheme.
  2. yeah bit part of that was having Brandon Marshall to take some\most of the focus off of him
  3. Again I hate to complain after a win because I am happy we won but the offense worries me more and more by the day but still we are taking advantage of the nats like the other teams in our division have been doing. Go dbacks
  4. OMG, this is the stupidest 'controversey' since the one that used to post on this board. (actually I'm just kidding. She wasn't stupid. I just thought it sounded funny in my head.)
  5. Step 1: acquire washed up players who were good in 2004 Step 2: travel back in time to 2004; hope that traveling back in time reverts players to their 2004 abilities Step 3: immediately trade with real 2004 Cubs for Kent Mercker Step 4: profit
  6. Must've been something about his personal demeanor. Don't know why they'd DFA a guy with those numbers so far this year... maybe it was a Luis Vizcaino type situation? Did I miss something? What was the "Luis Vizcaino Situation"? He was released by the Cubs despite getting decent results in his brief tenure with the team because they didn't like the velocity on his pitches and believed he was getting people out on smoke and mirrors.
  7. Nevermind. Quinn's stats are a bit better than I thought they'd be. I seem to remember him being absolutely horrible in 2004. I remember the Thanksgiving game that year between the Bears and Cowboys, it was seriously the most painful game to watch ever. I believe Quinn started for the Bears and Drew Henson started for Dallas, with Vinny Testaverde coming in later in the game. For the game, Quinn was 10-21 for 86 yards, 0 TD, and 2 INTs, while Henson was 4-12 for 31 yards, 0 TDs and 1 INT. The difference in the game (Dallas won 21-7) was the fact that Julius Jones had 150 yards rushing and 2 TDs, while his brother Thomas had only 46 yards and 0 TDs. I stopped watching midway through the third when the game was still tied at 7, that's how bad it was.
  8. Yeah Toronto did give up on him too early I guess. Considering the team isn't really in contention, how much does it hurt to give him innings and hope that he comes back to form? I mean they've invested $15 million in the guy either way. I was looking at his stats today, and defintely forgot how dominant he was just a few years back. Look at this 3 year stretch: 04: 87.0 IP, 2.28 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 12.6 K/9 05: 70.1 IP, 2.43 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 12.8 K/9 06: 72.1 IP, 1.37 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 10.7 K/9 Heck even last year he had a 2.95 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP in 58 IP (his K/9 dropped to 9.0 though). The worries are obvious though with his declining velocity and control issues. I do wonder if he is a PED suspect considering his numbers spiked randomly at his age 27 year and started declining sharply at age 33.
  9. The back of the pen is pretty good. Guzman has turned into a very reliable 7th inning man, Marmol despite his control issues is still nearly unhittable and doesn't blow many games, Gregg has been much better the past 6 weeks or so, Marshall has turned into a dependable LOOGY (even if he can pitch to righties), heck even Heilman has been a lot better than April and May. The problem is when you get to the Samardzija/Patton/Hart part of the pen.
  10. Wasn't that actually McNown in 2000? He had a few pretty good games. i dont think mcNown ever had any good games... He had a couple halfway decent starts, but was more often than not awful... 10/1/00 - 11-20, 203 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT, 123.5 rating 12/19/99 - 27-36, 301 yards, 4 TD, 2 INT, 113.3 rating 9/3/00 - 27-41, 290 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT, 102.7 rating
  11. I just read this in today's game recap and I am wondering what the heck he's talking about. I realize that he's struggled at home and is much better on the road all season, but this quote suggests that there is a specific reason why he struggles at home. What could that be? He doesn't like cramped clubhouses?
  12. Bradley has a .855 OPS since May 25. I'm actually aware of that, and he still pisses me off.
  13. I really can't stand Bradley. I was really excited about getting him this year, and I always defended him and his character issues, but after half a season I would rather play Sam Fuld in right than Bradley, and I really don't want Sam Fuld to play a ton. More realistically, Jake Fox should spell Bradley and Soriano every other day.
  14. I didn't get to see that, what exactly happened? Sunday night against the Cardinals with the bases loaded, Marshall was pitching but a righty came up against him with two or three lefties to follow. So Lou, not wanting to pull his only lefty, took Soriano out of the game, put Marshall in left and let Heilman pitch to the one hitter (think it was somebody pinch hitting for Schumaker). Then Marshall came back in to pitch to the final two lefties and Reed came in to play left. Actually, it was a righty due up, then Schumaker I think, but Schumaker was PH for with a righty, so Marshall only ended up facing 1 more lefty but got both hitters out anyway.
  15. It's been that way the whole season and I really don't see it changing anytime soon. I would absolutely love it if our farm club in Pittsburgh gives us Freddy Sanchez for nothing of significant value. I don't know if you can say with certainty that the offense won't get better at some point this year given the track record of many of the players who are doing crappy. But it gets increasingly less likely by the day. Plus we can't just keep waiting for everyone to get healthy since it doesn't look like it's gonna happen.
  16. This offense is awful. With a few exceptions no one works the count very much anymore. We have 8 hits but I think only 1 walk and 2 extra base hits, both by Lee. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we are winning, but we haven't looked particularly impressive doing it.
  17. Another ofer for Bradley. And with the exception of this latest an none of the hits have even been hit hard.
  18. Gotta love the bunt single, stolen base, error on the throw, groundout way of scoring a run.
  19. Are Soriano and Bradley competing to see who is the most incompetent corner OF on the team?
  20. Here is the only stat you ever need to end this discussion: Times saved us (entire season): Neifi Perez: 1 Anyone else to ever play for Cubs: 0
  21. We keep telling ourselves how bad the Central Division is, but remember this....... CUBS are 24-21 vs. NL Central We have seen the enemy, and they are us...... or words to that effect. Yes, and the enemy has only been the Pirates 6 times so far! 12 already against the Cardinals, 12 against the Astros, 10 against the Brewers. Means we still have quite a few against the likely fading Reds and Pirates.
  22. Why isn't Lilly going on more than full rest and matching Harden up against their best starter?
  23. I couldn't wait to see the answers so I looked them up. Answers in spoilers:
  24. I don't think he's bitter that they signed Hossa and not him. He's bitter because Tallon told Havlat they would resign him and McD went over his head and signed Hossa instead. At least that's the impression I am gathering.
