  1. Out of curiosity, how is Ibanez doing defensively this year? I know he was a butcher out there in the past and a major detriment to his value.
  2. Also we will either gain ground on Colorado or SF in the Wild Card race. Right now I think SF is winning so we could be 2 games out of the Wild Card tonight.
  3. Blah, so the only team we are going to gain ground on is Milwaukee, who is quickly becoming irrelevent. Plus, the Astros beat Santana today so they will probably sweep this weekend.
  4. hope Happ isn't in the trade. We need him to beat the Cards tonight.
  5. I used to hate [expletive] fighting until I found out he does it. Now I'm down in Pilsen every Saturday throwing my money down on Little Jerry to come through.
  6. To me this is an impressive victory. They scored early, they came back from a multiple run deficit, they tacked on runs late. The starter bounced back from a rough start and the pen shut the other team down in poor pitching conditions. Just all the way around a nice win for the Cubs. I wrote the preceeding paragraph before Gregg kinda imploded there but witheld posting it. I feel like it still mostly stands. Good game.
  7. Nice pitching by Harang on Hoff. Really wish we could have gotten the run home with less than 2 outs.
  8. why? I happen to think it was better. 20k games have been done 4 times by 3 pitchers, perfect games 18 times. Also the only hit in Woods game was a slow hit grounder just out of the reach of the SS. That bit of bad luck (where the ball was hit) was the only thing separating his game from a no hitter (or perfect game. I can't remember if he walked anyone)
  9. Since we can't get a big bat, I just want to get a bat to platoon with Bradley and hit righties at least a bit.
  10. The weirdest thing is, none of these injuries lately seem to happen while playing. Dempster hurt jumping over a fence, Soto hurt in batting practice, Lillys injury disclosed between starts, etc. Dempster is the only weird one. Soto was still playing baseball, and just because they disclosed an injury between starts doesn't mean it didn't happen during a start. Odds are he was hurt while pitching, and in a game where his knee was bothering him it wouldn't be strange at all if that led to different mechanics screwing him up. On top of all this is that it makes it harder to give extra rest to Harden. I think they will still try and have him go Monday night on extra rest. They should go ahead and use Samardzija with Marshall ready to fill-in as needed. My comment wasn't that it was weird they got hurt between games because like you said they were baseball related injuries, its just weird to see all these random injuries popping up in between games. I'm used to seeing these things happen in between games, not finding out that a previously healthy person is injuries via an NSBB thread.
  11. Dickerson does have a .365 OBP, so its not awful. Tavaras has like a .280 OBP though. But he's fast dude.

  14. Who the heck is going to spot start now? Samardzija? Marshall? Dempster rejoining rotation? Our rotation looks interesting this weekend....Wells/????/Hart
  15. Yeah I'm so sick of it. Year after year its the same thing. Oh wait, that's not true at all.
  16. While the odds are less likely, I still think the Cubs have a decent shot at winning the division. We'll see.
  17. Ery nice post and great analysis. I like what Theriot has added to his game this year. He is slowly becoming a well rounded hitter. Here's hoping he keeps it up.
  18. He's always been rather streaky though. When he's good he can be unhittable at times. When he's bad, he's awful.
  19. Drag racing in his Camero while high on Meth?
  20. Haha, Obama called Wise "Weiss" like Walt Weiss
  21. I think he either hit a batter or someone reached on an error because I seem to remember 2 hitters reaching.
  22. I'd almost take Pujols, replacement level player, replacement level player over any 3 player combo on the Cubs.
  23. Apparently, hes already saved the economy, so whats left for him to do? "Excuse me Chairman Jong-Il, we'll have to get back to peace talks some other time, Mark Buehrle just pitched a no hitter!"
  24. I don't mind as long as those fans don't come anywhere near me and revel in anti-Cub hate in any situation where Sox and Cubs fans may mix. I definitely don't sit and obsess over the White Sox unless they are jammed in my face, which White Sox fans can't help doing at all times. I was at one of the concerts this week at Wrigley, and between acts they played Go Cubs Go as a fun way to celebrate the home of the Cubs holding a concert. Of course there were a sizable group of Sox fans there, and the majority of them thought it would be funny to use this time to taunt Cubs fans and turn it into 'Go Sox Go'. Which is fine, it doesn't rile me up like it used to, even when the 55 year old white trash Sox fan in front of me turned around pointing at my Cubs hat as the sang GO SOX GO followed by "HAHAHA YOU ARE A CUBS FAN!!! SUCKS TO BE YOU HAHA WHITE SOX!!!!'. It doesn't bother me, but its just an example of how desperately the White Sox fans need to have their presence felt.
  25. Oh God...Obama is on the phone to speak with Buehrle. His White Sox love is getting a little annoying. I'm glad he's a passionate sports fan but aren't there more important things to do than make his presence known every time a non-Cub Chicago sports team does something noteworthy.
