  1. Good day as any to rest Bradley and Soto. Just wish Fox could have found his way in the of. It's almost like management is reassuring Hoff that Fox hasn't passed him up on the depth chart. Either that or they are only playing Fox with lefties in which case that'd suck.
  2. Geez this ump is not calling anything on the corners.
  3. OK, Atlanta has made adjustments Cubs. You can stop being agressive early in the count. Work the count guys.
  4. C'mon, its not easy to get 4 runs off a very good pitcher like this, we don't want to blow it by giving back those runs.
  5. Nah he needs a solid single. I'd like to score 2 runs every inning and win 18-0 :)
  6. Sounds like the scouting report was to be agressive early in the count vs. Jurgins (sp)
  7. I'm sure the Rockies would be very interested to hear how Patton managed to get hurt. I'm surprised no one on the Cubs tried to float any "Patton is banged up" stories through the media the last few days to make it seem much less fishy.
  8. I don't understand this reference. Soria is good and Patton is useless. Well, both were Rule 5 picks... Okay, so that's the only similarity. There's absolutely no point in comparing the two other than that. Sorry to burst your bubble but that was the whole joke.
  9. Marmol made the team on Woody's open roster spot because he had the next highest vote totals among relievers on the player ballot. Yup, not the fan vote, the player vote. The Cubs will not have a second Al Star, unless a couple of the 4 first basement on the roster go down.
  10. A good defensive player who can play multiple positions in the infield, I think it's more likely that someone would claim him than not. Somebody would find a space on the roster for a late-inning defensive replacement who could occasionally start and give a regular a day off. Most likely. I think he should stay up here. He can't hit worth a lick, but I think fans really underrate the importance of defense in the game. Probably because it's not as conclusively quantifiable. But having a player like him off the bench and for the occasional start is important. I'd DFA Miles and keep Blanco on the roster, but because of the contract situation, Blanco will almost certainly go down when Miles is off the DL.
  11. I think Fox can still get a decent number of ABs/starts if he stays with the Cubs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he can give Soriano, Lee, Bradley and ARam breaks when they need them. ARam especially will likely not be ready to go everyday with the lingering soreness in his shoulder. Fox should get 1-2 starts a week at 3B, and 1-2 starts a week in the OF or 1B. That's 2-4 starts a week, and key right handed pinch hitter the other days.
  12. Welcome back Cyno...I'm glad your not house hunting anymore. It was hard to keep up with the Hawks news without you. I think we all missed your reaction when Hossa signed. Can you pretend you first heard the news and make a post with your reaction please.
  13. Fred and I are at the game right now. Fred wants everyone to know that the Cubs are 14-6 when the pitcher gets a hit....25-33 when he doesn't. In addition, the Cubs are 5-0 when Fred is in the stands (with 3 rainouts)....34-39 when he isn't...and I don't see any rain coming!
  14. Him and Wakefield are both awful selections that shouldn't have made it. They made it based on the number of wins they have, not their ERAs or WHIPs or any other statistic. Now for years we're going to hear from the Chicago media about how the Cubs traded "future All Star" Jason Marquis as part of Hendry's disasterous offseason.
  15. 2 years ago, how many people had heard of these guys, let alone expected them to be All Stars Zorbrist Bartlett Pedroia Edwin Jackson Franklin Josh Johnson Then you have other first time all stars Broxton Bell Billingsley Upton Lilly Wakefield Longoria Ibanez Molina (he might have made another one, I forget) Pence And I know I'm missing a few others. What an odd All-Star team this year.
  16. Hopefully it's more Phil Hartman than Chris Benoit. Either is horrible but yeah... I read on gotitans.com that the woman that died was Asian. BTW, sorry dew :(
  17. They are saying this might be a murder-suicide involving his wife. If so, wow... http://www.wbir.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=92323&catid=2
  18. You gotta admit its a little funny that he's on the front of our 2009 schedules in his Cubs uni, a schedule that tells us when he'll be in town to homer against us. PS Casey McGehee is garbage.
  19. Yup, 1 game is definitely enough to draw long term conclusions, especially if that one game finds you down 7-0 before the 2nd inning is over. I know you know better but I had to snarkily rely to that statement.
  20. I love scoring 9 runs in the first 4 innings of the series and then 4 in the next 24.
  21. E of the Brewers to treat Cubs fans to a firework show on the 4th
  22. yup. I though he looked bad against Pittsburgh. He was just facng a bad team so the 8 or so hits he gave up didn't cause too much damage.
  23. He's in the Nationals org.
  24. At least we are ahead of the Reds and back in 3rd place. Also good to know that we can lose to the Brewers tomorrow and not necessarily lose ground (not that its good to lose but still)
  25. I bet the decision isn't as much of a no brainer as you suggest. The person they keep will likely be a bench player mainly who can fill in occasionally. So the Cubs will look for the best player for their bench. Hoff being a lefty helps his case big time even if Fox is better and has more upside. I don't necessarily agree with this logic, but I'm trying to think like the Cubs do.
