  1. So you're 4 years old? He probably means first that he's seen live. Or maybe he's on his iphone posting from the game? Probably the former.
  2. Why is it bad? Just predicting bragging/attitude from WS fan friends. Why is that worth bragging about? It's a nice individual performance that's fun to see but it only gives a team 1 win in the standings. The Sox win tied them for 1st place though.
  3. BTW, did anyone else think Alexi was going to airmail that throw to first on the 27th out? He looked like he was rushing to make the throw...that would have been really hilarious to see.
  4. Gotta give him props for that. Cheering him on the entire way, and I wasn't even cheering for the Sox in the World Series in 05. Perfect games are individual achievements and it was enjoyable to watch the last few innings.
  5. Blah, not that its that big of a deal but we get the front end of the Reds and Astros rotations (Harang/Cueto/Oswalt/Wandy) in our upcoming series. Good news is Harang is now mediocre, Cueto is struggling big time, we seem to hit Oswalt decently usually and Wandy is slightly worse on the road.
  6. Amazing that the Cubs played a 3 game series at that bandbox called Citizens Bank Park and did not hit a single homer.
  7. You obviously didn't read the 20-some posts above you. I didn't until after heh. Sorry for being lazy.
  8. they've been heading downhill since october 13, 2007. i suppose this season is headed downhill in a hurry though. Yeah I was reading the Reds message board for their game tonight, and I'm seeing them complain about the same things we did regarding Dusty. His time has gotta be short there if the Reds continue to fall.
  9. There's no way I can believe that. If you sent me an audio recording of the phone call between both team's GMs where the trade was proposed, and the video came with a certificate of authenticity signed by both guys, I still cannot believe that.
  10. Wow...the Reds and Dodgers were tied at 2 in the 6th...with the bases loaded and 1 out the Dodgers sent Manny up to PH (he didn't start because of a small injury). First pitch he knocks one directly into Mannywood for a grand slam. In other news, the Reds are heading downhill in a hurry.
  11. On the other hand, the Astros aren't a good baseball team. Yeah I said that in 04, 05, hell even 08 when they made a run and finished 9 games over despite looking like an awful baseball team on paper. For some reason, they just make second half runs all the time, so mentally I worry about them making another run even though on paper they look like garbage.
  12. Walk years boosts are a myth. Milton Bradley disagrees. But yeah I agree, they're a myth.
  13. You can argue what constitutes a prolonged hot streak, but consider this...... 04/06 - 05/17 AB R H 2b 3b HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS CUBS 1221 182 312 61 5 46 521 171 144 268 0.256 0.339 0.427 0.766 Through 36 games, the CUBS were 21-15, scoring 5.06 runs per game. If we can put up another offensive streak like that one, we'll be in pretty good shape ! The crazy thing about that is they did it while Bradley and Soto were hurt/in a horrific slump, and Lee was hitting terribly. How the heck did they score those runs?
  14. Isn't Miles on a rehab assignment? If so, why is he getting over 35 ABs in the minors? Don't get me wrong, I don't want him up on the Cubs, but can't he force himself to get brought back up since he wasn't designated for assignment?
  15. Am I the only one who isn't that interested in sanchez? He seems like a slightly better version of Theriot. He not left handed, he doesn't hit for a lot of power, he's mediocre defensively and he's 31 years old. He's not particularly adept at drawing walks (although I can't believe I'm saying this, drawing walks isn't our biggest issue). Also, he'll probably cost a bit, especially if multiple teams are bidding. Don't get me wrong, if that's all we can get, he certainly is an upgrade over Fontenot/Baker. But enough to turn our offense around? I am not sure.
  16. A lot of teams bunched up there, but for the Cubs to make the playoffs, they would have to play very good baseball anyways so the number of teams shouldn't be a problem. The thing that scares me right now is that the projected playoff teams are very scary. Can anyone see the Cubs winning a playoff game against Philly or LA let alone a series? We may be able to beat someone like SF or COL, but its highly likely we'd be matched up with them. I would think after last year a Cubs fan would basically ignore the reg season success when it comes to the playoffs. If we get to the playoffs we have as good as chance as anyone to win a series, let alone a game. Here's why I'd worry that even as a crapshoot, we'd have bad odds of succeeding in the postseason: 1) The offense doesn't seem to hit good pitching at all (going off memory). 2) The offense hasn't had a prolonged hot streak all year If neither of those 2 things happen and we still somehow make the playoffs, I won't feel good going in. But it doesn't matter what I feel, so whatever. There would definitely be less pressure on the Cubs than last year if we stumbled into the playoffs with like 85 wins. Everyone would be expecting us to get swept badly because of how bad our offense has been and because of how the last 2 playoffs have gone, so maybe we'd loosen up and surprise people.

  18. At least the Wild Card is still very much in play. If we were like 7-8 games out of that, I'd be a bit worried, although the Rockies are pretty good.
  19. I was definitely 'rooting' for the Astros to lose this one (not the Cards to win). Cardinals have @ Philly, @ LAD (i think @), vs. HOU coming up. They would have taken care of themselves. Houston is red hot and looks like it's gonna take this if everyone keeps sitting around in mediocrity.
  20. Gregg just wanted to get Utley and Howard out of the way in the 8th.
  21. yeah that other lefty in the Cubs pen should have come in.
  22. I Swear everytime we beat the Phillies, Its the must gut wrenching painful win. They always make us earn it. No win against them is ever easy.
  23. Let's get the tying run up. An make sure it's Chase Utley. Ugh.
  24. If Marmol didn't pitch 2 innings yesterday, Guzman would have been in earlier. If the Cubs offense didn't blow last night, Marmol wouldn't have needed to pitch 2 innings. So you see, once again it's the offenses fault.
