  1. Wow seeing as how this board has shown almost no buzz for the Cubs lately, I'm pretty surprised that this thread got 8 pages. Of course nothing will match how we used to be on this board. In 2006, the first spring training thread got 22 pages. 2007 we got 19 pages. 2008 we got 16 pages. 2009 we dropped to 6 and now 8 this year.
  2. The Cubs are a running joke of cliches. Need more left handed bats? Only if they replace better players to do so. Bad experience with a disgruntled teammate? Consider keeping an over the hill below mediocre player because he's a people person.
  3. With the win, the Hawks have tied the Sharks for 1st in the East, with equal number of games played. Washington remains 3 points ahead of the Hawks for best record in hockey, also with equal games played.
  4. I want to see the Hawks put in 3 goals this period and win running away.
  5. well, they should have had more goals last night and should have at least 4 tonight. for some reason goalies continue to stand on their heads when playing us After seeing people (including myself) complain about that just about every night you have to wonder if that's really the case.
  6. Blah, I'm overreacting a bit. Just frustrating to see one of the worst teams in hockey lead on our home ice towards the end of the 2nd period. But at least we are tied going into intermission. Oilers only have 11 SOG, and 2 have gone in hah.
  7. Oh boy. Good move not getting a goaltender Hawks. I hate to act pessimistic in any way towards this team, but they have not looked like a dominant team in a month or two (not inc. the Olympic break). Remember when they would go on streaks of scoring 4+ goals every game? Where is that team? Where is the team that had 2 goalies among the league leaders in shutouts? Where the hell are they? Where is the team who went into one of if not the hardest arena to play in the NHL and throttle that team 7-2? It would really really be a shame if the team blew probably their biggest opportunity.
  8. ST is first come first served. I'd say first person to put it up after midnight tonight gets the honors.
  9. Step 1: Use stats more Step 2: Google "OBPS" and notice that's not what it's called Step 3: Learn which stats are actually relavent Step 4: Don't use stats that do not actually coorlate to future performance Step 5: Learn what "sample size" means Steps 2-5 can be done in any order
  10. I can think of 2 games where the Blackhawks won after trailing by multiple goals early without even thinking hard. The first one is obvious. Did you all forget the Calgary Flames game back in (i think) November? Hawks were down 5-0 early and came back and won in OT 6-5. The other one I can think of is the game in Boston in January. They quickly fell behind 2-0, and came back to win 5-2 or 5-3, I can't remember exactly. A majority of the time any team that goes down 2 goals isn't going to win. You have to play 3 goals better than another team for the rest of the game. The Blackhawks are good and can comeback sometimes, even more than most teams in the league, but more often than not they aren't going to win.
  11. Shouldn't some of this be on the defense? I haven't watched much of the game tonight, but I find it hard to believe that our goalies are this bad night in and night out.
  12. The Pirates dominated Manatee CC 6-1 today. It truly appears to be the Pirates year.
  13. Man we're losing? It seems like every game our goalies suck. Like there's not even a good or decent game mixed in. Just a bunch of horrible goaltending. What happened since the first half of the season??
  14. Jay Cutler is going to cry himself to sleep if this happens.
  15. That's the most awesome thing I've ever seen. Thanks for brightening up my day (I just came back from the game)
  16. If anyone is interested, these are the stats for the Blackhawks in the Olympics: Duncan Keith - 0 G, 6 A, 6 PTS, +6, 10 SOG, 20:44 MPG Brent Seabrook - 0 G, 1 A, 1 PTS, +2, 4 SOG, 8:26 MPG Jonathan Toews - 1 G, 7 A, 8 PTS, +9, 10 SOG, 14:38 MPG Patrick Kane - 3 G, 2 A, 5 PTS, +4, 22 SOG, 17:21 MPG Marian Hossa - 3 G, 6 A, 9 PTS, 0, 26 SOG, 18:49 MPG Tomas Kopecky - 1 G, 0 A, 1 PTS, +1, 9 SOG, 11:00 MPG In total: 8 G, 22 A, 30 PTS, +22, 81 SOG, average MPG of 15:10
  17. At least our young guys got even more experience playing in high pressure games before the playoffs start in a month.
  18. Sweet, besides charlotte not playing and losing 0.5 games to milwaukee bc of last night, that erases all the damage that losing last night did.
  19. take what away from them? "we dominated those little kids, man. nobody can take this away from us. we clearly were a better team than those little blind kids. we are truly champions today." If that extreme example actually took place, the Cubs would have won a major league baseball world series title. No one can take that away. It's not like they made selig do that or changed leagues just so they could say they won a title in something. They only won against whoevr they were told to play. Obviously if it really happened Itd be a different story. I was talking in hyperbole but that would be the argument I'd make in this hypothetical situation.
  20. did you say the same things when the cardinals won in 2006? If I did do you think cards fans gave a crap? That was my point.
  21. I have always said that if Bud Selig decided major league baseball was gonna consist of the Cubs and 29 teams of blind 8 year old girls, and the Cubs had to use all 7 games to win it, I wouldn't care. They won it and you can't take that away from them.
  22. Don't buy it. My philosophy is if you won a title who the hell cares? I mean if it was a semi final win then I'd see a win marred by a poor performance and how it relates to their prospects in the final. Once you've won a title nothing else matters. People can tear down the title all they want but you are the champ they can't take it away from you. Plus in this instance This particular team Canada will never have to defend their gold. They will forever be recognized as the champs. Do you think people will remember alabamas performance in 30 years or even who they played? Only the hardcore will.
  23. yeah, whatever, they still beat us at everything else. [expletive] em. now when and where are the summer games and can we please [expletive] win the most gold medals at that one? [expletive] [expletive] [expletive] China's probably taking over the Summer games for the foreseeable future. They're pathological about it. Maybe. The games won't be held in China for the forseeable future either. yeah, china won't be there, it will probably be the americans winning the most medals again, but the british coming out of nowhere to win more golds than anyone. yeah or maybe Iran or something.
