  1. /Waits for "Marlins interest was never real, unless it was" Heyman joke.
  2. Lot of tweets within te last 5 minutes saying the same thing but they all could be coming from the same source.
  3. He might still be willing to do like 7 years/$32 mil per year ($224). I would guess that if Pujols were to accept less years, the total contract value would have to be similar to the 9 year offers he gets, because if he took a 7 year deal, he's not really likely to get much money in years 8 and 9 with a new deal at age 40.
  4. So if the contracts were even throughout the length of the deal, they will commit to $40 mil to 2 players next year, putting them around $100 mil for 11 players I think.
  5. That's called extortion and it's illegal. It's not an official agreement, its just talking. If the Red Sox say no, the Cubs can't make things more difficult for the Red Sox other than keep persuing Sveum, which they have every right to do. If the Red Sox say ok and still demand McNutt, the Cubs can't do anything either. But they can discuss a scenario that is mutually beneficial for each of them and keep it between themselves no official agreement. If I say to you, "hey there, I see you have a new car. This is a bad place to have new cars. I hang out here so I'll protect it for you if you pay me 50 bucks. If not something bad could happen, and it probably will." we are just talking, it's not an official agreement. That only makes sense if you have a legal right to destroy my car. The Cubs have every right to persue and hire Sveum even if it hurts the Red Sox.
  6. That's called extortion and it's illegal. This is not extortion, its an informal agreement willingly entered by 2 parties. If the Cubs were employing Sveum and keeping him from accepting a position with the Red Sox, that would be extortion. If the Red Sox say no, the Cubs can't make things more difficult for the Red Sox other than keep persuing Sveum, which they have every right to do. If the Red Sox say ok and still demand McNutt, the Cubs can't do anything either. 7. Tell me what you don't like about MacKanin other than 'he's old' (60) His responses to the media were worrisome. What did he say? His interview was the one I heard the least about. I just remember hearing that he was completely open to using advanced stats to aid his decision making.
  8. How can you prove collusion? The Cubs have an open managerial position and he's one of the 4 candidates they brought in to interview. Seeing the Red Sox interest, they say 'hey, Sveum is one of our two finalists. I hear he's one of yours too. We'll back off if you want to hire him, but I would expect you to back off your demand for Trey McNutt and be ok with Welington Castillo." The Red Sox could say 'no we'll take our chances hiring Dale, we think he would rather manage here' and they'd probably get him. Or they could decide to not take the risk and agree with the Cubs.
  9. Tell me what you don't like about MacKanin other than 'he's old' (60)
  10. I love how the title is that we'll listen to offers for everyone, but the article doesn't dare mention Starlin Castro.
  11. I was reading an article from 2009 about the old Browns that turned into the Super Bowl Ravens, and I didn't realize the insane amount of coaching talent that Bill Belichick had assembled on his Browns staff: I knew most of them had been affiliated with the Belichick in the past but didn't realize they were all together at the same time.
  12. why on earth would the bears game be blacked out in st. louis? I saw that on the506, its just a grey hole in the broadcast map. hell, even I get the Bears game this week. weird. Because the Rams have a game at 3:15 and they don't show another NFL game at the same time. Same thing happens in Chicago. It will be on Sunday ticket though.
  13. So the Cubs told him he wouldn't get the job. I don't see how someone could take those quotes any other way, especially considering the report that he was nearly begging Theo for the job, and interviewed with St. Louis and didnt get the job. He's saving face I guess.
  14. Yeah they won the Super Bowl with all of the Browns players.
  15. I don't know, I think MacKanin is a legit candidate. He might not he their top choice at this moment but I definitely think he's a serious candidate and the Cubs will take a long look at hiring him should Maddux and Sveum be unavailable.
  16. I don't mind signing Chen. Not thrilled about a multiyear deal, but it could be a underrated signing.
  17. Yeah to me the only interesting games are Cincy at Baltimore, Jets at Denver, and San Diego at Chicago (of course I'm biased, but I'd think it seems somewhat interesting to an NFL fan)
  18. No way Buehrle will ever come here, he like hates the Cubs and stuff.
  19. ahh man come on. you dont trade soto before an even numbered season. hes due for a good year. trade him after this year.
  20. Not sure why a team would give up anything that great for a $7 million closer who led the league in blown saves last year. I could be wrong though. Perhaps teams focus more on how dominant he's been in the past and assume last year was unlucky for Marmol.
  21. Check out this article written by his hometown when he signed with the Yankees. They make it seem like he's their next star and ready to play at Yankee Stadium after signing a minor league deal. And they keep calling the Rangers "Dallas" which pisses me off. http://www.nola.com/west-bank/index.ssf/2010/12/harvey_resident_signs_with_new.html
  22. Interesting stuff at Footballoutsiders. Houston rises to #1 in DVOA rankings, which is impressive considering the injuries to Mario Williams, Andre Johnson, Arian Foster and now Matt Schaub. Too bad I don't expect it to last with Leinart in there. Top 10 DVOA teams: 1. Houston Texans 2. Green Bay Packers 3. New York Jets 4. New England Patriots 5. San Francisco 49ers 6. Baltimore Ravens 7. Pittsburgh Steelers 8. New York Giants 9. Chicago Bears 10. Dallas Cowboys Also, in terms of SOS, here is the top and bottom 5 in terms of SOS up to this point and SOS remaining this year. Current SOS (toughest to easiest) 1. Tampa Bay 2. St. Louis 3. Jacksonville 4. New England 5. Seattle (Bears #6) 28. Green Bay 29. Houston 30. New Orleans 31. Cleveland 32. Kansas City Rest of the season SOS (toughest to easiest) 1. Kansas City 2. New York Giants 3. Miami 4. Washington 5. Indianapolis (uh oh) (Bears #26) 28. Baltimore 29. Seattle 30. Pittsburgh 31. San Francisco 32. New England Strange that KC has played the easiest schedule in the NFL up to this point and has the hardest remaining schedule from now on.
  23. ESPN has this playoff predictor thing that they've been releasing each week to project the end of the season. Bears were at 58% last week I believe and barely in that 6 seed. This week they are in the 5th seed with an 82% chance to make the playoffs. Pretty amazing when you consider the fact that they aren't getting any percentage point help at all from the Division. 1. Packers 14-2 (99.98%) 2. 49ers 13-3 (99.90%) 3. Saints 11-5 (89.63%) 4. Cowboys 9-7 (63.37%) 5. Bears 10-6 (82.87%) 6. Lions 10-6 (66.09%) ---------------------- 7. Giants 9-7 (56.27%) 8. Falcons 9-7 (32.99%) AFC: 1. Patriots 11-5 (94.02%) 2. Ravens 11-5 (86.69%) 3. Texans 10-6 (92.74%) 4. Raiders 8-8 (53.50%) 5. Steelers 11-5 (89.63%) 6. Bengals 10-6 (48.06%) ------------------------ 7. Titans 9-7 (30.90%) 8. Bills 9-7 (28.76%) 9. Jets 9-7 (27.14%) 10.Chargers 7-9 (21.84%) 11.Broncos 7-9 (16.95%)
