  1. Sorry, I just want to point out that they are now making guesses at who finished 2nd. No one [expletive] knows what the bids were you hack reporter. Go make up more breaking news on twitter like the rest of you guys do.
  2. So the Cubs, when acting aggressively, are unable to compete with the Rangers financially? I know, new TV deal, blah blah blah, but come on. There is no reason why, if they really wanted to, the Cubs couldnt spend $52 mil on a posting bid for a Japanese player. Is this supposed to be an actual argument? You're relying entirely on the hindsight of knowing what it would take to be the winning bid. Ugh ct read the original post before you reply.
  3. Wow, this is pretty sweet. I'll play around with it later when I have some time. Thanks!

  5. Is that new? My twitter says that's new. Is that the compensation? if so, LOL Edit: Appears like it was just posted for me. 2 minutes later, he posted this: Gordon Edes @GordonEdes 15m Reply Retweet Favorite · Open According to @alexspeier, Cubs hired area scout Matt Dorey from Sox, promoted him to cross-checker
  6. If that is true, the question remains, why even submit a bid? The only thing I can buy is that it doesn't cost the Cubs anything to submit a bid, so you offer him a competitive but not outrageous amount and hope that the 0.5% chance that the market was very overestimated and your bid wins. Its possible Theo made an offer thinking he'd have a good shot to win, but I am not sure if that's the case. He knows how much it cost for Dice K. Darvish arguably comes with more hype so the offer is likely to be close or more than what Dice K got. Unless he bid something in the $50 mil range (which is possible), he was probably not aggressively trying to get Darvish.
  7. I need 5.2 out of Vernon Davis Time for us both to celebrate!
  8. Gah....this sucks. I was holding out hope. I guess Epstein was burned by Dice K and didn't want to risk it again. Maybe his scouts saw something they didn't like that might limit his ability in the MLB. On the surface, getting Darvish seems exactly what Theo and Co were preaching about when they were introduced, but so far I'm waiting for the acquisition of talent part. Not mad, not frustrated very much, still 100% faith in Theo, etc. I just want something that can make me excited for Cubs baseball next year. So far it looks like I might be tuned out the majority of the year again.
  9. Damn you guys. I see 8 new pages and assumed we won the bid.
  10. OK Mendenhall, I am just asking for 4.19 points to get me into the championship game. Please
  11. lol this is hilarious. They are acting like this is a terrorist attack. I understand the initial confusion before you knew what happened, but to suggest that the players preparation for the game will be effected because they are worrying about their family's health and safety is hilarious.
  12. hossa's having a great season, hopefully he stays healthy. I saw SJ play last week here against the Blues and Havlat was damn near invisible. I really hate getting into questioning a guy's will or desire, because what do I know about the guy. But he just seems like he doesn't give it 100% very often. He's probably hurt or trying to avoid getting hurt
  13. I agree with the commenters. Whatever, give him the 50 games back, just let this be true.
  14. A lot of babies. Does Viagra/cialis increase your testosterone like that? Oh so he was taking performance enhancing drugs afterall
  15. Few days ago it was Toronto, now it's Texas as the favorites. So nobody knows who has won. I'm betting on "Not the Cubs." Why because no idiot reporter has guessed the Cubs yet? Or because Nick whatever his name is has a pulse on the Cubs? If anything, the fact that randomly that the Blue Jays were almost unanimously anointed winners for several days and now all the sudden the 'smart money' is on another team should give even more evidence that these bozos don't know what the hell they are talking about.
  16. Why would you think that? The conspiracy theorist in me suspects a 3-team trade with the Padres and Boston that involves giving Boston and SD their compensation while also trading for improvements. Involving Garza, too. But that's idle speculation and fantasy I doubt it unless its been agreed in principle for weeks. Otherwise, the offseason is halfway over (in terms of player moves). You can't go that long without knowing if your ace is going to be on the team. If it were a 3 team trade involving both teams getting their compensation wouldn't we end up getting a big time shaft out of the deal? If you consider getting Theo and Hoyer the shaft, I guess so
  17. concussion, although I didn't see it. How was the big fight, anyway? I was in the car at the time and the radio announcers were going nuts for about 10 minutes Bickell got some good shots. Landed like 7-8 in a row. Eventually the other dude (forgot who) landed on top of him while they fell but clearly the good guy won. Nice to see this team playing so well. 9-1-1 in their last 11.
  18. They lost the next week to the Giants, we're eliminated from the playoffs and the Steelers won the Super Bowl? At least that's how it plays out in my head.
  19. Most good NFL teams are extremely dependent on their QB and when he goes down they usually suck. The Packers, Patriots, Saints, Falcons, Cowboys, Giants, Steelers, etc. would all be having a Bears like run right now if they lost Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Ryan, Romo, Manning, Big Ben for the season. When Brady went down in the first game for the rest of the sea son the PAts went 11-5. But the Bears don't have the best coach in the history of sports. I think the Steelers would hold together some level of competitiveness without Big Ben, too. Not playoff level, but losing every single game wouldn't happen. They lost Ben for the first 4 games last year (or was it the year before?) but Dennis Dixon and co went 3-1 in his absence. The issue is that the Bears have a horrible offensive line right now and no reliable receivers. We were an offense that absolutely needs Cutler in there due to his pocket presence elusiveness and arm strength so he can throw darts while scrambling. Very few QBs would better fits for our offense than Cutler. So when you take Him away you have a horrible offensive line and receivers who won't help you at all. Hanie sucks but he was doomed to fail. I still think that Chris Williams loss was way way underrated as something that derailed the bears season. Cutler was good despite getting constantly pressured but Hanie wasn't going to succeed with this line.
  20. Yeah...maybe he's right but every tweet ive seen him have about the Cubs has been negative towards the Cubs. I get that he might have theo connections.....or had them, but come on. Why even make a bid if you know it has no shot of winning?

  22. Seriously, Cutler should go public that he will retire if the Bears don't make significant moves to improve the offense this offseason. Can you imagine a Jay Cutler with WRs and a line that doesnt cause him to run for his life all season? He would probably have Rodgers like numbers.
  23. I'd hate it more if this was the actual team that we were supposed to go to war with this season. Still extremely frustrating to watch. We could obviously have a better backup QB, but most teams that lose a franchise QB and Pro Bowl caliber RB aren't going to be that good regardless. I just wish that Cutler had his season ending injury after they lost to the Lions on MNF so that we could never think 'what if'. That and, I'm sure Angelo is going to do nothing major in the offseason with the idea that we were rolling until we had injuries. Why address the o-line, Cutler was doing a really good job of dodging the defenders before he got hurt.
  24. Dang, beaten to it. Me too. Was just coming to the thread to do the same thing. Whatever, just rest up and get healthy. Still the favorites for the Super Bowl. You mean other than the Denver Tebow's right?
  25. lol they said that "injuries.....and tough competition" has taken its toll on the Bears. Yes, the impossible gauntlet of Oakland, Kansas City, Denver and Seattle has really been a burden on the Bears.
