It’s like a runner gets in scoring position and everything changes. The vibe changes, players get tight, bad decisions are made. It’s in their heads at this point. -
Yep, I’ve met many like you in the 23 years here. There are several optimists. Several pessimists. Several people that fluctuate based on the overall trends of the team. Many that get heated in game threads and then are some of the most level headed posters outside of game threads. Doesn’t seem much different than any other message board I’ve been on. also welcome to the board!

Ok I think I found it, the Cubs have scored a runner from 3rd and less than 2 outs 42.3% of the time, last in baseball The MLB average seems to be 52%. So if they were league average they’d have roughly 18 more runs scored this year. If any of my logic is faulty let me know.

When the training staff went to check on him yesterday, were they looking at his elbow or something else? Assuming elbow. If so, did keeping him in there make things worse? How incompetent does our training staff look?

Just some comparisons between 2025 PCA and 2026 PCA 2025: 2026: All in all very promising especially considering this includes his pretty brutal start of the season. He's hitting the ball harder and more consistently. His chase rate and walk rate are low and will probably always be low but he's still seen improvements there this year. With his other tools, he doesn't need to be an elite plate discipline guy (though the would be nice).

It's so hard to adjust to wildly different World Cup times every day. I get it, this is a 3 country World Cup covering maybe a half dozen time zones so it makes sense, but I remember past World Cups having a consistent schedule, like 6am, 8am, 12pm or something (CT) where you could count on waking up and catching the end of the 1st game, watching the 2nd game as you were getting ready for work and the noon game on your lunch break. Today I was like ok yesterday there was an 11am, 2pm, 5pm and 8pm game. Who is the 11 am game today? And then realized there is no game until 2pm. Yesterday the last game started at 8, today it starts at 11. Weird....not really a complaint just an observation.

Yeah it's wild that he is on pace for like a 2.2 win season despite being on the worst hitters in baseball. That said, he's one of the worst hitters in baseball. I find myself counting how many spots we are away from 9th in the order because we know that's almost an auto out. I will say about Dansby is that he's always been insanely streaky as a hitter. For instance, in 2023 he had a 35 game stretch where he hit .281/.347/.563/.910. His OPS for the year was over .800 and his contract looked like a steal. He then proceeded to hit .204/.287/.333/.620 the last 50 games of the year as the Cubs fell apart and missed the playoffs by 1 game. At that point I was reading Braves fans discussions about Dansby and saw a lot of mention of how he's one of the streakiest hitters they've ever seen. Granted: 1) we're talking about his age 29 season vs. age 32 season 2) this stretch is longer and worse than the example I gave 3) I don't know if the underlying numbers during his 2023 slump were bad or if there was a luck component to it. But hopefully the fact that he's extremely streaky means that he's due for some sort of hot streak (relatively speaking) and we can end the discussions about whether he should even be playing because all it takes is like a 90 OPS+ for him to be extremely valuable to us with how he's playing defensively.

He also seems to be hitting lefties a lot better this year. IIRC, Rizzo was awful against LHP his first 2 years with the Cubs, then suddenly turned it around and hit them roughly as well as he did RHP and he jumped from a .750-.800ish OPS hitter to a .900 OPS guy. PCA's OPS vs. RHP/LHP: 2024: .693/.597 2025: .838/.594 2026: .815/.786

Agreed but now it will be interesting to find out if PCA is yet another in a long line of extremely streaky Cubs hitters or if he has made another round of adjustments and locked in his early 2025 form again.
