Doesn't Milwaukee torment Lester on the basepaths?? I think this was certainly considered for this decision Yes, great point.

Before last season, anytime I wanted to feel pity about the Cubs history, I remembered that its still better than the White Sox, who have never in their history made the playoffs in consecutive years and only 9 times total in 116 seasons. This might/will be 19 for the Cubs since 1901

So they could have started Lackey or Lester tonight, with the other opening the series against Milwaukee and they chose to have Lester pitch this one? We will still win the series, but Lackey, Montgomery, Arrieta replacement is a blah set of starters for the weekend. Any idea who will take the Arrieta start anyways? Rob Z?

The Cardinals and their +66 RD are definitely more formidable than the Brewers but making up 4 games with 23 left is difficult unless the Cubs totally collapse. If the Cubs play 12-11 baseball to finish the year, the Cardinals would have to go 17-6 to pass us. And even then the Rockies, with the worst record in the NL since the break, would have to go 15-8 to take any Cubs baseball after game 162 out of the mix.

Also the dumbest horsefeathering series. Game 1 Duke injures Jake and we lose 12-0, Game 2 we blow an 8th inning lead and lose, game 3 we refuse to do anything offensively

Geez. This is like the 3rd time today I see the Pirates are done batting, I wait what seems like 5 minutes, check the score and the Cubs are already done batting. This offense is in some kind of fun the last few games

Baseball is a crazy spot. One week you are going 5-2 against the Dodgers and Nationals, the next you are in the process of being swept by the Reds.

So is ours. The main difference is they have 4 less against Milwaukee. Plus they have a heavy dose of Reds and Pirates. But, it's not like our 2 vs. the Rays and 3 vs. the Mets are a huge swing. Also, they are 4 back. Just take care of business and we got this. I think the 7 against Milwaukee and St Louis are actually a major advantage to us. It's very difficult to win 5 of 7 from a team. If that happens, sure we will be in some trouble, but most likely one of the teams goes 4-3 and the Cubs either gain a game or lose a game while burning almost 30% of the remaining schedule.

Geez, the Cardinals schedule is pretty light Already played: 4 @ SF (3-1) 2 @ SD (2-0) Upcoming 2 @ SD 3 vs. PIT 3 vs. CIN 3 @ CHC 3 @ CIN 3 @ PIT 4 vs. CHC 3 vs. MIL I dont think they will catch us but they may make us sweat to the end if we continue slacking.

i mean it's been said like 100x that sanchez wasn't really here to play, but to be a guy in the meeting room to mentor about what it's like to suck in the nfl and blah blah blah. his relationship with prescott last year has been brought up a lot too. i think it's a load of horsefeathers but clearly they believe he has value in that role as basically a coach under the guise of a fellow player. for whatever reason I hadn't heard that. seems stupid to waste a 53 man roster spot on a mentor but whatever.
