First of all I don't think adults are calling a toddler the n word. I tried to picture a scenario in which an adult could direct that kind of angry aggression towards a little tyke. All I could picture was a 3 year old version of MB brooding and stomping around which could totally be reality but I still can't see that prompting racial slurs upon him. And yes, OMC, this would be the ultimate Cubs move: Sign a guy who used to be good a long time ago but is worthless now, and then the front office crows about the big-name FA we signed and how they're trying their damndest to win. Did you even read the rest of the thread? Cameron is not worthless. Even if you were ignoring his defense, he's still average. That wouldn't really make sense because Cameron has pretty much been the same hitter for the last 12 years. He's old, that's about the only mark against him.

Was Lee Elia suspended for his rant? Honestly curious on this. As I keep saying, there's likely more to it than appears on the surface, but a suspension for criticizing fans for booing and for saying you're miserable doesn't seem justified.

Milton Bradley could call me a nazi war criminal to my face and I wouldn't care as long as he produced. And that's the crux of the issue. Bradley's not producing as expected, so people are pissed and acting outraged over what he says. What he says to the media doesn't affect the performance on the field so I honestly don't care. (its partially why I've defended him because I hate the majority of sportswriters and Cubs fans too.) The only valid reason for running him out of town and suspending him is if his teammates were taking a stand and basically told Hendry no more. And beyond Dempster's comments, I haven't seen any evidence that Bradley was reviled to that point in the clubhouse. I'm not saying it's impossible that this happened, it definitely could have. I just haven't seen the evidence that Bradley needs to be essentially released(eating his contract for a nothing prospect/worse contract is the same thing) Hendry's publicly stated reason for the suspension just grinds at me so much. Talking about the media and fans. I don't want to say I hope there's more to the story beyond Bradley being an [expletive] to the media, but for Hendry's sake I hope there were legit reasons cause that just seems like PR bull [expletive] to ruin any chance at salvaging the relationship between Bradley and the club so that Paul Sullivan will write nice things about you. I mean does anyone really think a contending ballcub with Bradley on it isn't going to sell out every game? Fans aren't going to stay away from a good team because the RF said mean things about them.

Obviously it was a racist ump. To be fair, even the first base coach said that the umpire instigated that. And Bradley actually tore his ACL doing that. Even MLB said the umpire instigated that, fining or suspending him or something.

I don't know how accurate these numbers are, but 56% is pretty close to 50%. You're looking at 2008. It's ~2/3 in '09

I don't think that is it at all. I think most people see think the racism excuse is a cop out. I don't for a second doubt that Bradley was subject to some racism. What he said. You don't think there's an actual reason they suspended Bradley and not Zambrano? Or do you think they just did it on a whim? I'm not sure what you're trying to prove here. That Zambrano gets unjustified preferential treatment over Bradley? I think his point is that people are acting like Bradley eats babies from his actions in public.

Yeah, I doubt somebody directly taunted his 3 year old child. It's possible that somebody taunted Bradley while his child was there, or that somebody made general racial remarks (not necessarily about Bradley) while his kid was there. Chicago's not Boston, but it's pretty damn racist.

Why does it matter? No sense throwing Lilly out there and taking a chance of something bad happening. Let the kids play the rest of the year It seems as though they are auditioning guys for the 5th rotation spot to see if its worth re signing Harden in the off season. While Harden is beter than Marshall, Gorzolanny, and certainly Shark, is he really worth the 10-11 mil hed probably end up getting? Yes. Especially if it's a one year deal.

The question is: what would be the purpose of that? If indeed Bradley refused to play when asked to, such a grievance could backfire easily. And the fact that the Cubs are probably still going to pay him during the suspension. It seems to me that they were doing him a favor by suspending him and not placing him on the DL, due to the clause in his contract regarding his option vesting in 2011. The union wants to make sure he does get paid, which its been rumored they're considering not doing.
