Either way we are screwed. I'd rather get rid of him and be sucky, then have to deal with this again and still be sucky next year. The most important issue is to be not sucky next year. Trying to make the Bradley situation work is the best way to do that.

Obviously. The point is, Cameron's value as a CF is diminished, since they can put Fukudome there. If Bradley's gone, then the Cubs need a new OF. They don't need a new CF specifically. Missed this at first. The reason I'd be ok with Cameron is because I think he'd be a short-term deal, and cheap compared to his skill. Even if Kosuke's defense is marginalized by being in RF, it's still valuable. You're improving your defense in 2 positions by making this move. The alternative(as far as guys that are better hitters than Cameron) has you spending huge money on Bay or Holliday, and I just don't think we'll be able to afford it. It's hard to forecast anything considering ownership, but I'm not comfortable banking on a 30M payroll increase.

It's not that Fukudome became a worse fielder, it's that he's being compared to much better fielders because teams put their best OFs in CF(ideally)

Because it's a lot of pitches to add to what is still a young arm in a short span of time. We've got him up to 180 innings on the year, and 2 more starts likely won't do any damage, but what's the point. The same way you build up a pitcher's stamina for individual games, you need to build up a pitcher's stamina for a season. You don't want a guy fresh out of spring training throwing 120 pitches, and you don't want a guy fresh off a 130 inning season to throw 220.

Assuming the whole front office/management stays on: I'd organize a meeting between Hendry, Piniella, Bradley, and Lee(maybe have Kenney in there, I dunno). They'd need to express to Bradley that they want him to be a part of the Cub family, but that he needs to buy into it himself. They'd have to agree to some sort of PR apology to the fans from Bradley, about how he wants a fresh start, and understands where he went wrong. Of course, I think Hendry, Piniella, and Bradley are all have too much pride, arrogance, and tough guy inside them to even agree to such a meeting, so we'll trade him for Ordonez and be worse off for it.

And third, it was a one-time rant. Bradley has been pulling this crap all season. He plays poorly and blames others, including fans and his fellow employees. I do think a one time "our fans are unemployed cocksuckers who are [expletive] morons" rant is a hell of a lot worse than what Bradley's said about them this year.

Hey. He was traded for Ken Griffey, Jr. One of the greatest players of our generation. He's got to be good if the Reds got Griffey for him 10 years ago. And yes, OMC, this would be the ultimate Cubs move: Sign a guy who used to be good a long time ago but is worthless now, and then the front office crows about the big-name FA we signed and how they're trying their damndest to win. Did you even read the rest of the thread? Cameron is not worthless. Even if you were ignoring his defense, he's still average. That wouldn't really make sense because Cameron has pretty much been the same hitter for the last 12 years. He's old, that's about the only mark against him.

Was Lee Elia suspended for his rant? Honestly curious on this. As I keep saying, there's likely more to it than appears on the surface, but a suspension for criticizing fans for booing and for saying you're miserable doesn't seem justified.

Milton Bradley could call me a nazi war criminal to my face and I wouldn't care as long as he produced. And that's the crux of the issue. Bradley's not producing as expected, so people are pissed and acting outraged over what he says. What he says to the media doesn't affect the performance on the field so I honestly don't care. (its partially why I've defended him because I hate the majority of sportswriters and Cubs fans too.) The only valid reason for running him out of town and suspending him is if his teammates were taking a stand and basically told Hendry no more. And beyond Dempster's comments, I haven't seen any evidence that Bradley was reviled to that point in the clubhouse. I'm not saying it's impossible that this happened, it definitely could have. I just haven't seen the evidence that Bradley needs to be essentially released(eating his contract for a nothing prospect/worse contract is the same thing) Hendry's publicly stated reason for the suspension just grinds at me so much. I don't want to say I hope there's more to the story beyond Bradley being an [expletive] to the media, but for Hendry's sake I hope there were legit reasons cause that just seems like PR bull [expletive] to ruin any chance at salvaging the relationship between Bradley and the club so that Paul Sullivan will write nice things about you.
