  1. I have a hard time believing it will decline by 30%. Contrary to popular opinion, Wrigley doesn't sell-out every season win or lose, and tv ratings are directly correlated to success. It wasn't hard to sell hope in 99 and throughout much of the early 2000's, as a young emerging team with an expanding payroll, new acquisitions and newfound marginal success got hearts beating. They need to sell tickets this winter, and I'm guessing they will add enough payroll to add one fairly intriguing player. Yeah there's no chance it drops 30%. Even if they wanted to, it'd be tough to pull off with all the guaranteed money and no trade clauses. What I'm interested to see is what kind of crowds they'd draw without a big splash. They had to spend a [expletive] load of money in '07 because nobody was at those September games in '06. Even the bleachers were half empty. It's not quite as bad this year, but there were still an embarrassing # of empty seats when I went Wednesday. With the last 2 years you have to wonder if the bar was raised yet again, and fans will stay away next year if roughly the same team is brought back.

  3. It was 2003 and the Cubs took four out of five at Wrigley. Guess which game I was at? :x The only game of the 5 that Woody Williams didn't blow?
  4. Given that it's the Heckler, I"m not sure they even realize what they're making fun of.
  5. The ones that don't read the story to see that it is all a joke? No the ones that bask in the glory of being a losing(loser) Cub fan.
  6. I hate these idiots(and 99% of Cub fans)
  7. Aaahhh....there's that evil media..... Are there any Cub fans out there that think that maybe Bradley is just an ass, which would explain why he's bounced around so many teams? Or is there some sort of evil conspiracy to make him look like the bad guy? So are you saying the media has nothing to do with the fact that Bradley isn't generally liked by the public? Did the media want to go after a broadcaster in Texas? Did the media fabricate Bradley's outbursts in other towns? Did the media forget how many outs there were in a game? Did the media directly tell Bradley "You're not a ball-player, you're a piece of ####"? (I'm sure Piniella didn't say that, it's was just a media fabrication) Why has he bounced from team to team if he's a good player? The media? If he's a good player why do you care about any of this? I don't doubt that Bradley has pissed off the media in most locales, but I don't give a [expletive].
  8. Meph is a psycho? I don't think this is a word that does him justice Don't you understand a making fun of culture requires this response
  9. He pissed off the fans Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
  10. I can't wait to pay Chone Figgins 12M a year because he'll put up worse #s than Bradley but he'll do it in the leadoff spot, so it'll be ok.
  11. So the worth of Bradley's contract depends on where he's put in the lineup? I don't think anyone here believes Bradley has been worth 10M this year, but to dump him because he wasn't worth his contract this year is reactionary and accomplishes nothing.
  12. 1.2-1.4% according to cool standings.(For the division, they had like a 14% chance at the wildcard. They currently have us at a .5-.6% chance at making the playoffs.(including today's game)
  13. i have a hard time believing that, considering that he didn't pitch many innings in 2006-07 and has just been average this season. He's making $7 million this year. You think he'll get a pay cut down to $5-something million? i didn't say that. but i don't think there's any way he gets into the $12-13M area. remember, the largest-ever arbitration award is $10M to ryan howard, after two years in which he hit 105 home runs, drove in nearly 300 runs and had an OPS over 1.000. harden will be coming off an average year, an outstanding year, and then two years in which he pitched well when he was healthy, which was almost never. i don't even think harden would get $12-13M on the free market, let alone in arbitration. i see $10M as the ceiling that he could ask for an reasonably get. The largest ever pre-FA arbitration award was Howard. Maddux made 14.75M in arbitration 7 years ago.
  14. It wouldn't shock me if Gruden wound up in college. I could see Notre Dame making a push for him or Shanahan.

  16. [expletive] And my joke was awesome.
  17. Just because the Cubs offered 5.6M in arbitration doesn't mean he'd be stuck with that if he accepts. Regardless, this is just stupid on every level unless they know something about Harden's shoulder(besides the usual) And if they know Harden's shoulder is effed up and they're still going to pitch him then they're stupid and they're assholes for running an injured guy out there that won't be on your team next year for meaningless games.
  18. Didn't Missouri hang a banner at their stadium for spending a week at #1?
  19. I was just going to post this. Why in the hell did the Cubs previous owner sign a contract with comcast that runs until 2019? The cubs should've started their own network years ago. Regardless, the Cubs make a good buck! The Cubs are 1/4 owners of Comcast. I don't think a Cub only network would work out.
  20. I like that you type this after today, and have previously said nothing like this. ok? i've hardly paid attention to the cubs the past month. i shouldn't say he will suck... i guess he might be your typical #5 but i don't think he will be better than that. although i did just arrive at this after watching him pitch four innings poorly, so what do i know. A typical #5 sucks.
  21. Not even close to that low. IIRC, I don't think their odds of winning the ALCS as a whole ever dropped below 1%
  22. The difficult part is four teams ahead of the Cubs. There are enough examples in baseball history of a team overcoming six games to win a playoff spot over one team. But it requires both the chasing team to win a lot of games and the leading team to lose them. In this case, we'd not only have to win a lot of games, but we'd require four separate teams to lose a whole bunch, too. It's just not going to happen. No, the issue is the 6.5 games with 18 left. The Braves and Marlins are close enough that any making up of 6.5 games would involve the Cubs passing them. Additionally the Cubs have 4 games with the Giants. Unless you're counting on an epic Rockies collapse, the other 3 teams don't matter.
  23. And it's 6.5 games with 18 left.
  24. guys who get a lot of catches Thanks Copernicus.
  25. This is unclear whether it's due to injuries or Lou's pouting. Either way, this is horribly sad.
