  1. How was that not an actual response?
  2. What does Castro, Rizzo, and Shark playing have to do with trying to win games this offseason? Well that's completely untrue You know what else has value now? Good major league players. What I'm saying is this isn't MLB of 10 years ago where you had 8 teams with nothing payrolls who were ready to dump their 5th year players every offseason. Just expecting studs to become available at this yet to be determined date when we're going to try to win games is a gamble you don't have to make when you can sustain a 150M payroll. I've seen no plan from you that has us as a legit contender in 2014. You don't want to commit to anybody worth a damn this offseason and anyone decent you want to trade off at the deadline so we can get more sweet draft pool money. It's my opinion that you have an unrealistic vision of what good players go for on the free agent market now, and instead insist on paying dollars/win to get the 1.5 WAR guy at a steal rather than pay a premium for a great player who you may have to actually pay money to in a season where we're not a better than 50% shot to contend.
  3. GD IT B2B stop posting in my threads about davell's bad team-building plans.
  4. Those teams are locking up their star players now because every team has money. this is a weird thing to say, considering your stance. based on that, doesn't it makes more sense to try and create your own star players instead of having to overbid for star free agents? you said it yourself, everyone has money. you're going to have to overpay more and more for talent in free agency. Regardless of how much money everyone has it will always be cheaper to acquire talent via free agency than it is via trades. When a team is flush with money like the Cubs you can afford to spend money in years where you don't expect to contend, in order to have, ya know, actual talent on the team for years where you plan on actually trying to win games. Money is the greatest asset the Cubs organization has and you guys would rather not use it for 3 years and instead at that point use that money AND the farm system you've spent years of losing building up in order to acquire the same damn players you could've had for just the cash.

  6. The point being that these 27 year old mvps aren't going to be hitting free agency so daring to spend money on guys for more than a 2 year commitment is going to be necessary no matter how "terrible"ever single one of them look Yeah, so why spend on the 28/29 year old, slightly better than average guy NOW, like a Sanchez or Jackson, on a 4-5 year deal, when you can basically get the same production on a short term deal out of a Marcum type? Please tell me what good it's doing in going long term on those types? And since that's all that's out there other than two stars, one with a well documented drug problem and the other with a well documented anxiety disorder, the question is pertinent. Because neither of those exact two guys are who we should put gigantic money into. I've got no issue in adding older guys on longer term deals when we're likely contending. Hell, if we were a player or two away, I'd give Swisher 5 years. May would give Peavy 3 with an option. But we're not there, so why waste a year or two of what's likely their best production when we aren't gaining anything by it, other than winning 76 games? BECAUSE YOUR PLAN NEVER HAS US IN THIS MYTHICAL CONTENDING POSITION
  7. I mean, I'm not saying I'd want him to have a heart attack in his first major league swing, but man...
  8. Yeah, it could. And if some of our top guys flame out, well then we have a pretty good farm system and a terrible major league team.
  9. Yeah think how much worse the Rays would have been this year if they signed Prince Fielder in the offseason. The problem is trying to be the Rays when you don't have to be just because it's "fun." The point is that those star players aren't going to be around to trade prospects for because the Reds of the MLB can actually afford these players now.

  11. I hope Antoine was smart enough to get the automatic 20% gratuity on that check.
  12. Is this story from March?
  13. I didn't say I wanted him to get hit in the head again, but man...
  14. Wade Boggs who is appreciated a hell of a lot more by advanced stats than traditional.
  15. A SS who can't hit, an erratic 4th starter/setup man, a 4th OF, and bits of string? We should be able to cobble that together.
  16. I doubt where you will be playing for his junior year had that much bearing on his decision. I think that he liked Illinois, but not enough to leave home. No getting his brains beat in by UNC and Duke every year was what won him over.
  17. So The Cubs could give Joe Mather 223 ABs, but couldn't sign Greenerg for 1? My guess is that he'll get on base, but then morph back into an elderly doctor to save a young girl from choking. This is actually a really good joke.
  18. I mean I don't really want it to happen, but man if he gets hit in the head again...
  19. I wouldn't look forward to having to spend 3 hours in Manhattan, KS either.
  20. I guess we'll just wait until there's an actual good FA market in 2018 to start trying. In the meantime Mmmmmmmm draft budget...
  21. You said 2 years ago that Soriano wasn't worth the league minimum.
  22. At that point, I'd just rather put Vitters in. Casey McGehee has been sub replacement the previous 2 years. I wouldn't bring him in to dance for nickels.
  23. Why do you want them to win these games? 100 losses is an arbitrary number that impacts their future in no way. Draft slot and IFA money is an actual thing that will be impacted (however slightly) by the results of this game. I hope we [expletive] never stop losing. Soooo much draft money
  24. lol, I believe I said they can go 1-5 on the road trip and still have a good shot of sweeping the Astros, not sure how you got "The Rockies series will be easy" out of that. Also, its the first game of the trip you buzzkill. You're focusing on the wrong reason that that post is stupid. Is it the "Aramis fan wrote" part?
