  1. Goodness gracious. Yet another "Derrick Rose is dumb" crack. Who cares? He's not dumb on the court. So the guy couldn't break xxx on his SAT. Big deal. If he's so smart on the court, why did he tear his ACL?
  2. THANK GOD HE GOT HIS CHANCE
  3. No one is going to tolerate this thing going beyond next year. And I don't think they'll have to. Are they even going to be that bad next year? I'm pretty sure we'll sign 2 of those 2nd tier starters... which will make for a pretty nice rotation after Shark and Garza. And I think we'll give BJ Upton a serious look, given the fact that he's relatively young and in his prime, should provide more value than he'll cost, and plays one of our 2 complete black hole positions. But then we might miss out on draft budget.
  4. I don't see what the big deal is. Forte just sprained his acl and was back 2 weeks later.
  5. No one wants the team to be terrible. No one is enjoying this, it's brutal. But if you're going to suffer, you might as well get something out of it. Ventured outside of NSBB lately? You'll find in most places Cubs fans hang out, there is much cheering for the team finally being willing to be awful, because good players cost money and that's what Hendry would have done, or something. Ventured inside NSBB to a game thread lately? OOOOH FECAL LEAGUE GO OTHER TEAM HAHAHHA!!
  6. Yes, trusting Derrick Rose's brain is probably the best course of action.
  7. I hope all of you celebrating this are happy when our TV deal isn't worth as much.
  8. This reminds me of people talking about how the 8 hitter doesn't need to be a great hitter so who cares if player X can't hit. Those 1 or 2 scholarship players that don't see the court get there through failure to develop. When you lock in a scholarship for 4 years to a guy you know is never seeing the court, you're purposely handicapping yourself. The argument is whether Jackson is worth 2 scholarships, not "who cares the 13th guy never plays anyway"
  9. I see no reason to baby Mark Prior further. The doctor said he can go back out there after the collision, so what's the big deal?
  10. See, clubhouse chemistry works.
  11. Thank God the darkest days of American history are over and we have real refs back. I was this close to never watching any athletic competition again thanks to the criminal behavior that was having replacement refs. Now though, I can sleep easy at night, and know that everything is going to be alright.
  12. Why is longer worse? They're both fairly young (entering age 29 season next season), and have pretty well settled in as above average starters. Having a 2nd name to write in the rotation for the next 4 years isn't a bad thing in my book.
  13. I should really have broken that group down into As and Bs wanting one of each. I wouldn't want Peavy and Dempster for example. I'm fine giving most of those guys 3 year deals.
  14. Because the best of a [expletive] pool might not be that good? Or a good fit? Or even make sense except in that aquiring them might make some petulant kids feel better for five minutes, until they realize it didn't really help all that much? Again, no one is saying not to spend some money on some players, just that emptying the coffers just because the money is there isn't necessarily a good idea. Other than Upton and Sanchez or Greinke, what is there that begs to be bought? Certainly nothing that's turning the 2013 Cubs into contenders, or help beyond next year (unless it's spun off for more prospects). Is there some sort of epidemic wiping out most of this year's free agents some time around November 2013? How do any of the pitchers I listed not help beyond next year?
  15. Did you mean to say inference?
  16. The pitching in this organization stinks out loud. The pitching on the FA market this offseason is quite good and deep. Our current 2013 rotation has a guy with an arm issue in the 1 spot, Travis Wood at the 3, and Roast at the 5(Still better than Casey Coleman) I see no reason not to bring in at least 2 of Villanueva, McCarthy, Marcum, Haren, Sanchez, Jackson, Peavy, Liriano, or Dempster to go along with several relief arms out there who could actually provide some stability to the pen from the word go rather than sorting through 5 shitty arms for the first 3 arms before settling on who actually isn't embarrassing.
  17. Here's the thing with the 2014 class. If we go out and win 72 games next year and don't have a protected pick, are you ok giving up all that coveted draft money to sign somebody who's actually really good? Even if you don't think we can contend in the following season? When it's all said and done, how many guys are out there that are worth that to you. Wright and...Wainwright maybe? Johnson? Isn't it concerning that one of the best pitchers on the market that offseason is a guy people are so anxious to trade away?
  18. The FA class 2 years away is always more interesting because the 2 years in between where half of them get locked up pre-FA hasn't happened yet.
  19. They are wrong - it hardly gets any notice outside of the UK. Maybe they meant non soccer sporting event. Even then I'd guess Rugby would still be more popular than golf. If you're talking popularity on a European scale, I think soccer and tennis would be the top two. And riding bikes and world championship stone-skipping. Europe is weird.
  20. Cliff Lee is. And he wasn't traded. Despite being claimed by LA. Adrian Gonzalez might be, and there's no way he was traded if not for the anchors of Beckett and Crawford
  21. Hanley, Cliff Lee, Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett were all available to basically whoever wanted to pick up their contracts Oh come on. 1.Those are all "bad contracts." 2A. Hanley was traded for a league average 22 year old starter. 2B. Cliff Lee wasn't traded, so we don't know that. 2C. Gonzalez and Beckett were tied together with one of the worst contracts in baseball, and still returned an okish prospect and a guy who I don't like personally, but dexter and somebody else had filling Josh Beckett's shoes. (har har, SSR doesn't like Rubby De La Rosa, what an idiot!!!)
  22. SHOOTSHOOTSHOOTSHOOTSHOOTSHOOTSHOOTSHOOTSHOOTSHOOTSHOOT
  23. It's not any individual miss that is the issue, it's your entire plan of sitting around and building up the farm system while adding nothing to the major league team long-term until 3 years in.
