  1. I have neither impressive quality or quantity. Like the Cubs, I value mediocrity.
  2. I think you may have hit the nail on the head. It may well be that the fans there are more concerned with perpetuating the myth of the Cardinals as a paragon of baseball purity. Unfortunately that myth doesn't extend beyond "Cardinal Nation", which as I once said, is the Malta of fan "Nations". Again, think the player's opinion doesn't speak to much more than docile and bland nature of Cardinal crowds. What makes a crowd "docile" and "bland"? The absence of profanities? The absence of debris flying onto the field? Wearing the team colors religiously? I'll take it....... even if it comes with labels. *head explodes* I think it's best for my mental health and good standing on the forum to leave Rivalries for a week. And for the record, I believe St. Louis would be #29 on JD Drew's list of teams to play for. It was not a good breakup IIRC.
  3. So, you're willing to say Dusty Baker is the best manager. I believe there was a poll conducted that indicated such, no? The poll was a survey of the players. The players obviously think that Baker is the best manager (they must like the guy). The players believe that St. Louis has the best fans. Obviously this poll isn't decisive, but if the Sporting News publishes something like that (which seems pretty legitimate), then you can't really blame St. Louis for promoting it. So can you every time you talk about the Cardinals fans make sure to mention what a great manager Dusty is please? It's pretty well-documented that he's a players' manager. Cardinal fans know it. It doesn't surprise me a bit that the players voted for him. Maybe the Cardinals fans are players' fans. Sitting on their hands not harassing any opposing players in an act of self-righteous piety. It doesn't surprise me a bit that opposing players would like fans that are more worried about how they're viewed than the team itself.
  4. please, he ain' hit a ball in own know how long MOMMA didn't raise no FOOOOOL SHELTON. Seriously though, he'd be a good pickup, and we might come cheap if we take on his contract. He's better at hitting LHP than RHP too, so he has a role when Lee returns. Durazo is at least as good of a player and wouldn't cost us players or most of an 8 million dollar salary. Can Durazo even play right now? And Durazo is an absolute mess in the field.

  6. If that lasts past May 15th I'll buy you a hat. Aramis is just starting slow, just like last year. I'm not going to worry about him. I wouldn't really say that Aramis started badly last year, though. His OPS was over .800 in mid-April, and still over .800 after April. That's pretty good, actually. He didn't say Aramis started badly, he said he started slow.
  7. I disagree strongly. They aren't average workers. They are unique elite workers in an industry with strong demand from the consumers. Practically anybody in the country could do what the average American worker does, there's a miniscule supply of labor for baseball players. BS, they get paid to play a Sport.....and a ton of money at that. I agree with Derwood on this. They're paid what the market allows them to be paid, just like every other profession.
  8. Pena has had an OPS+ over 100 in every season in the big leagues. His OBP (~330) would be substandard, but he could provide some pop, and I think is a pretty safe bet to outperform Sing. And I like Sing, it's just that it seems what could be an optimistic hope for Sing is what would be expected out of Pena, with a better glove as well.
  9. If Lee were out for an extended period of time(which I don't think he will be) I'd go offer the Yanks an iffy pitching prospect for Carlos Pena. The Cubs most certainly would not be this creative.
  10. That was a lucky break for Pittsburgh. Craig Wilson was rotting on the bench for no apparent reason.
  11. In 2007, we will only have Jacque Jones under contract for 2 years.
  12. He had a not-so-good outing today. I added he and the Serg to my initial post. Everyone keeps tryin to bring Ricky down, I tell ya. Was it Rookie of the Year-esque? ohmigodomigodomigodomigodomigodomigodomigodomigod Hey, I like the kid! I was hoping one day I could tell my grandkids I got a BB against a Cubs pitcher.
  13. I got offered Weeks for Conor Jackson. Keeper league (R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, BB, K, TB, OPS) Jackson's on my bench(along with Prince Fielder) for Delgado and Giambi.(1B/Util I have Kinsler, Kent, and Peralta as my guys for 2B and SS. I need steals pretty badly, but I'm already pretty horrible at Ks.
  14. Those aren't opinions those are facts.
  15. So you're just gonna go ahead and ignore the A-Rod #s then. Tremendous.
  16. I think we're all being homers. I know I'd take the 31 year old pitcher with an injury history coming off of a career year over the 25 year old with no injury history. Cause you know he's emotional and stuff.
  17. I think Ohman was the right call. Dempster's been overused enough, and other than Eyre, I'm not positive I'd rather have anyone in the pen used against Drew.
  18. Amazing how you joined after the 2005 regular season, and have gotten 4376 posts until now... Especially in the off-season! I've been here a season and a half and I only have around 5,500. I got a rock. I gotta ROCK!
  19. GEEZ!! I don't know why we always do this!!! UGH!
  20. Bah, I blame ESPN's slow load times for TT beating me to the #s. What you don't realize though TT, is that all those outs that he made were PRODUCTIVE OUTS~!
  21. Jim Edmonds grounded into another DP elconq.
  22. And Jim Edmonds hit a HR in the 2nd inning.
