    Pentagine's a worse fielder than Durazo. stats source plz Besides the fact that I don't trust defensive metrics much at all, Petagine's career high in the majors is 124 ABs, hardly enough for a metric to measure anything whatsoever. okay, so you're basing your statement that he's a worse fielder than durazo on what? have you even seen the guy play baseball? defensive metrics, as unreliable as some are, are still going to be a way better measure of a player's defensive ability than your limited (if it even exists) observation. you say his "career high is 124 ABs, hardly enough for a metric to measure anything whatsoever" - so what are you measuring it based on? certainly you haven't seen every play he's ever made in the majors, but any defensive metric is going to measure that. how on earth do you think that you can make a legitimate evaluation of petagine's defensive value when you discredit any and all defensive metrics because the sample size isn't large enough? the sample is surely larger than any sample you have, so why aren't you admitting that your evaluation is heavily flawed? I'm going off of what I've heard from scouts and fans of Petagine. He's played 53 innings at 1st in the majors since '98. No defensive metric means anything with that kind of sample.

    Because most of Prior's injuries have been fluke occurences, and claiming to know he is going to(or even that there's a good likelihood of him) start the year on the DL is foolish. Additionally the hope is you have Guzman, Hill, and Marshall all ready to contribute as at least league average starters so all the Joe Morgans of the world can be happy that Prior and Wood are only considered as extras.

    If you are going to score runs in an inning, most likely you are going to have to get to the 5th batter. If you are going to score runs, it's most likely an idea to neither have the pitcher, nor Freddy Bynum batting 3rd to break up the actual hitters on the team.

    Well yeah, Clemens has been a total hermit all through the baseball season. So anybody talking to him should surely get him signed.

    I brought him up, I think it'd only take a low level pitching prospect to get him. He's the most reasonable option IMO.

    Ya know, basic 1st baseman skills aren't rocket science. You can practice all day digging balls out, but so much of what makes a good 1st baseman is instincts.

    Wouldn't the day when we all want to kill ourselves over DLee not be the best day to come on and make jokes and gloating posts? What are the Astros gonna do when they realize Phil Garner is their manager? 43 years old. And you think we're nuts for banking on Wood, Prior, or Miller. 43 years old. In the meantime there lies 3 corpses in the 3-4-5 spots.

    What's Miller's progress like? Is he likely to come back before 60 days since opening day?

    A lot of people saying Neifi would get more playing time is if Cedeno struggled, even for a short period of time. That has yet to happen, so obviously Cedeno is going to remain the starter while he's having success. Even Dusty isn't dumb enough to sit someone hitting as well as Ronny is right now. I hate Dusty. he's an idiot and plays crappy players when he doesn't have to way too much. with that said, many said all winter that Neifi would get all the SS at the first sign of Cedeno struggles, then Cedeno struggled all spring. come openning day, Cedeno was the starting shortstop, so his point is well taken. fwiw, cedeno was pretty much guaranteed the starting job going into spring training. if he struggled during the year like he did during the spring, neifi would probably be starting by now. If I recall correctly, Bobby Hill was "pretty much guaranteed" the starting second base job and managed to lose it before the season started, so Baker should at least get credit for giving Cedeno the shot.... IIRC Hill got sick at the end of spring training and that is why he was not the starting second baseman Nope, Hill was optioned first, then got sick.
