  1. Your idea for who should've started at third today?
  2. The Brewers did not sweep the Cards in any series last year. And why would the Cubs have to keep it up especially against St. Louis? Your theoretical Milwaukee point seems to be that you have to beat everybody, so why would we have to beat St. Louis consistently(like we did last year)
  3. You can't worry about competitive balance when realigning unless you plan on realigning every 5 years to update according to new ownership, population shift, marketing shifts, etc.
  4. Yeah, and just think of how good he's gonna get once he goes through puberty.
  5. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=30473
  6. Why? Cedeno has looked solid at the bat and I think once he gets settled in the big leagues his D will return to normal as well. We've also got E-Patt who is absolutely destroying AA right now and he barely turned 23 on Saturday. Sarcasm. As we already have a glut of starting pitching, I thought adding to our all MIF bench would be a good idea.
  7. Boston's 2004 ring is gorgeous. Eh, it's okay, but the 60some diamonds on there still are quite over the top.
  8. He's only been great for one year. He's been good for several years.
  9. Light years better?? Lee's a better baserunner as well.
  10. Are you expecting him to produce the exact same for 4 years? It's not like they're predicting a Pat Burrellesque fall and rise. I'd be more skeptical of the projections if they had a player stay the same or straight rise/decline for the whole period of time. Expecting a progression 3 years down the road to be exact enough to predict slight upswings and downswings is pretty ridiculous.
  11. Well Ramirez is sort of locked up, it's just a matter of whether he opts out or not after this year.
  12. Projection models are regressed way too much for me to put any faith in their estimators as to what a player's contract should be.
  13. I may be going out on a limb here, but I believe Cabrera could probably handle RF.
  14. Just the bleachers or the whole park? Anywhere. Should specify though, drinks must be in plastic bottles and can't exceed 1 liter I believe?
  15. I don't really hit up many day games during the week at all, so I'll let the others advice guide you. I'd second the call for Lou Malnati's for some deep dish. As a warning, unless you have a bleacher seat, you can't get into the bleachers. You can bring any food or non-alcoholic drink in, so if you're looking to save money, don't hesitate to do that. Wrigley's food isn't much to miss out on. If you are planning parking on the street though, give yourself some extra time, as you may have to circle the mile radius a bit before finding a spot. There are countless bars in the neighborhood if you're looking for that after the game. Hard to go wrong with one of them. Obvious, but just make sure you're heading the right way on the Red Line, otherwise you'll wind up in White Sox country.
  16. Yeah but just wait til Lance Painter and Russ Springer come back.
  17. World Series rings are always hideous.
  18. if it weren't for the bad call on a shot down the third base line by moises alou in 03 the cubs would have swept the cardinals 5 out of 5. That call was balanced out by the call where Pujols dropped the ball on the exchange after catching a fly ball.
  19. Two words. Contract. Year. 2002 was a contract year for him as well, and he was suprisingly less idiotic then, too, and took the Giants to the World Series. I don't buy that for a second. He has the tools to manage more effectively this year and is doing a fine job thus far! He had the tools in 2004 and 2005 as well. What happened then? Dusty is a below-average manager who pulled his head out of his butt long enough to try to get an extention (or a big contract somewhere else). Once he has it, you'll see the Dusty of old. Let's look at it this way. Dusty is good in his first year on the job, and in contract years. 1993: Won 103 games 2002: Got to the World Series 2003: Led Cubs to NLCS 2006: Looking pretty good so far. I think you should always be leery of someone who only performs at his absolute best once money is on the line. Dusty has given us very little to complain about this year, but where were these managerial smarts a few years ago? I'm pretty skeptical about the contract year phenomenon in the first place, but at least with players there is something they can do to improve themselves.(Work out more in the offseason, take extra time in the cages, field, reviewing film.) With a manager what does he do to do well in a contract year? Did he go to the library in the offseason and take out books on strategy because he realized this season mattered? Did he say "now that I've wasted the last 2 seasons actively trying to lose games, now I'm gonna try and win?" Dusty's always tried to do his best with regards to winning games, he's just doing it a lot more intelligently this year than in year's past.
  20. I would love to see this armless, eyeless track star you speak of. :) Armlessness should cut down on wind resistance.
