  1. Echoing everyone else, thanks for taking the time out to do this. Did you happen to catch the 3 idiots in the RF bleachers with bags on their heads during the 7-0 comeback against the Dodgers in September? If Bob Brenly does wind up taking another managing gig, do you have any preferences on who would replace him in the booth, and do you think you'd be allowed any input into the decision?
  2. Funny, I could swear I saw his autograph on that picture in Caesar's Palace in Vegas a year and a half ago. I want Nolan Ryan's autograph on that. I want Farnsworth's with a note saying "You call that a punch?"
  3. Well they're both jerks, and both whores. So the comparisons are pretty good. But seriously Grace playing 7 more years after his abomination of a final year. Now that would be sweet to watch.
  4. And you're the starter of the Julio Lugo bandwagon :) Anywho, I think the reason that I would focus on offense first is that there are a lot of pitchers in our system who in a best case scenario could throw 175 innings of 4.25 ERA. On the position player side, I don't see the same potential/depth.
  5. This is the point. Yes, you can make the playoffs with holes in your lineup. But you most certainly shouldn't actively spend money on a guy who will be a hole in a lineup. If at the end of the offseason you looka t the lineup and say, oh we couldn't upgrade this position, we're stuck with a hole here. You live with it. If Pierre was still under contract for next year, it wouldn't be close to a top priority for me to trade him away. But since he's a FA, he's not a priority or even a target at this juncture in my book.
  6. Agreed on Cedeno, not on Fontenot or Pagan. Both of these guys, along with Theriot are just too old to gain much of anything by being in AAA. I believe Fontenot's been there for 2 years already, there's no reason for him to be there. It's most likely moot to even talk about though since Fontenot sorta ran over Hendry's dog. Only replace with sorta with repeatedly and dog with son.
  7. I'm pretty sure it's 130. that's correct Is it PAs or ABs?
  8. No doubt. If you play half your games in Colorado you shouldn't be bunting 120 times a year. Insane.
  9. I think a round robin of Big 10's bottom 4 against the SEC's bottom 4 favors the Big 10. By how much depends on how much Orange kool aid I drank that week.
  10. I disagree. Whether you have 10 fans or 10 million fans, you're still accountable to them. The last thing the Marlins need to do is piss off their few remaining fans and firing a(I assume to be) popular manager after he lead the time far and beyond the common fan's expectations is a real tough sell.
  11. The reason I might actually buy that Lee's presence cost the team 10 wins this season is because of the culture Dusty created in the clubhouse. I think once Lee went down the excuse making began, and he started telling anybody who'd listen that he couldn't win without his horses. I'm usually not much of a clubhouse chemistry guy, but when your own manager is telling you you can't win, I think it has an effect.
  12. There was a lot of turnover before the '03 season with managers. Some with proven track records, and others new to the job. Every manager hired before '03 with experience is since gone from the job he was hired for. (Showalter, Baker, Howe, Piniella, Alou) The survivors are Eric Wedge, Clint Hurdle, Ned Yost, and Ken Macha.(Bob Melvin still has a managing job but is with a new team going from Seattle to AZ from '04-'05) 1. Did anybody, anywhere see this coming? 2. LEARN FROM THIS JIM. *After reviewing Baseballreference(UPDATED~!), I see Hurdle managed half of '02, but IIRC, he wasn't given the full managing gig til the offseason before '03.
  13. I doubt Wilson costs much more than 4M, he should be starting at 1B or OF for some horrible offense, but I just don't know if there's a fit out there for him.
  14. I seem to recall Grace being thought of as lazy who skated by on his natural ability rather than actually putting in the time and effort to become a great player. If true, he'd probably make a horrible hitting coach. Of course that's anecdotal evidence, that I'm not even sure I'm rememberring correctly, so yeah.
  15. Twins/Pads. I'd really be pretty happy for any team that's not the Yankees, Mets, or Cardinals.
  16. McDonough has been great in his previous job with the Cubs, he made profits everywhere, and obviously hasn't turned off very many fans with the way he's done it. Why doesn't he deserve a promotion?
  17. That's the GM's job. Just like it was when MacPhail was around.
  18. Playoff Presidents: A's: Michael Crowley Cardinals: Mark Lamping Dodgers: Jamie McCourt Mets: Saul Katz Padres: Dick Freeman Tigers: Dave Dombrowski Twins: Dave St. Peter Yankees: Randy Levine Tell me a little something about these guys baseball backgrounds.
  19. Well when you buy a team you can pretty much do whatever you want. But techinally that does count so I'll credit that one. But for the most part most team presidents who operate under an owner, get the role because they have some type of general knowledge of the game of baseball. Name them.
  20. Dusty said we'd win one too. Saying "we're going to win a world series is pointless. He'd just have people like you calling him out and say oh yeah MCDUMMY, how you gonna win it with donut eating bacon grease boy as GM eating krispy kremes all day while eating garbage that even tubby glendon rusch threw out even though he's so fat.
  21. Criticism is legit, but please leave the nicknames behind. At least it sounds somewhat like the guy's name. RUMDUM MADE NO [expletive] SENSE.
  22. Of course, right now they are suspended from playing even at Stanford. You see, that's something I should have already known. That's pretty darn bad right there. Then again, that's not the only team to rub ND the wrong way in recent years. Heck, the entire BC series has been called off (at least for now) because of the Eagles trashing ND's visitor locker rooms the last couple of visits. BC series is back on as of next year through at least 2010.
  23. Mark Grace isn't getting in the HOF. So nyah nyah.
  24. Yeah but what does that mean in Venezuela?
