  1. Small nitpicks. I may have forgotten my ability to do statistics, but if I haven't (I'm sure I have), I've got ND as a .05% chance according to your odds. That and the odds of losses by Louisville and West VA should add up to at least 100%. Same with UM/OSU But I'm really just being picky.
  2. Mark_R: 2-4-2 soccer10k: 2-4-2 UMfan83: 4-2-2 rawaction: 5-1-2 TruffleShuffle3-3-2 ndistops: 2-4-2 SSR:3-3-2 Vance: 5-1-2 is what I have thus far. Feel free to double check your scores.
  3. By my quick count there were 7 passing plays, 16 running plays in the 2nd half until MSU's final drive.(That's including sacks and incomplete passes, I'm not sure how to account for plays where Stanton rushed the ball, I'm sure at least 1 of those was a scramble, but I just called them all runs. I really don't have much of a problem with a 2:1 ratio of runs to passes when up 3 possessions. Especially since it seemed MSU got at least 5 yards on every carry in the 1st half.
  4. I'm sure that will pretty much be the national consensus (everyone outside of OSU fans) which is very cool. Yeah this will be the third time in four weeks they'll be at OSU's game, but really they haven't had much choice. They had to be at the Texas game and Iowa-OSU is the only matchup of ranked teams next weekend and the clear game of the week, plus Herbstreit will be there. I was surprised they were at Columbus today, but I guess the next best options were Notre Dame or Cal and Arizona State. And you know as long as Michigan doesn't fall off the map, Gameday will be in Columbus on November 18. I thought I heard they didn't plan on going to the same location twice. A quick look shows the only other ones that would make sense being Auburn/Alabama and Cal/USC.
  5. Might need to have an alternate closer waiting in the wings, though. If his arm can't handle the pounding having 5 days of rest, how will it handle having to pitch, say, every day for 3 days and then another 2 after 1 day of rest in between? That's the life of a closer at times. Not that I don't want him. Just saying. howry can close. marmol needs to be switched to the pen in 2007 imo too so they might as well try him at closing in iowa. Im starting to worry about Howry. His history of arm problems could come up again. He has pitched alot in the past 2 years. Hendry needs to add another bullpen arm. We have plenty of arms for the pen. We already have Dempster, Howry, Eyre, Wuertz, Ohman and Novoa. Add to those there could be Aardsma and whoever isn't a starter from Mateo and Marmol. And if Wood is re-signed, that's one more. We do not need to waste any of the limited FA resources on the bullpen. We'll already be paying 15-18 million on the bullpen, and that is more than enough. 2nd.
  6. I've seen it written and said about how Smith botched things by going away form the passing game in the 2nd half. Stanton had 92 passing yards in the 1st half, it's not as if he was throwing at will against ND.
  7. Seriously, what the hell was that?? The only logical thing I heard is that it was the hands team on the field, so he was instructed to go down after he got as much as he could get, and then he screwed up and went down way too early. My guess was some sort of ignorance with regards to the new clock rules, but I guess your explanation would make some sense.
  8. Seriously, what the hell was that?? A minor quibble, re; the schedule. That Navy game is in Baltimore, 30 miles from Annapolis compared to 613 from ND.(Thanks mapquest!) Just cause it's not on a school campus doesn't mean it's not a road game.
  9. Um...Wow. And I don't think Howard's gonna get much air time anymore. What a bufoon.
  10. God it's funny being billionare's isn't it? Ok this 3 million will just shove into last year. OK! There we go. Now we have more money this year. I don't know if the Trib is going to think like that. Remember trib gives hendry his money. . I wanna say Hendry answered a question to that effect at a Cubs Convention a while ago. So if Hendry said our payroll was X amount of dollars going into a year hes already counting the potential buyouts. If they aren't used the Trib keeps the money, and I know they like that! Can anyone confirm hearing/remembering this? Maybe my memory is just bad. I can confirm that. It's not a matter of just shifting money around, it has to do with the way they're accounting for their expenses. Which when you are mega rich. Is just shifting money around your books and dotting your i's on a different page. Well like it or not there is a budget set for the Cubs baseball organization every year, and it's a good idea to establish how you're going to account for things like buyouts.

  12. SSR - Specifically what Managers had better years than the above managers you reference (apparently as undeserving) during the years they won Manager of the Year? Better years?? Is managing really a year to year skill where a guy like Torborg can be an incredible manager one year, and be just horrendous every other year? The manager of the year award goes to the manager of the team that outperforms what idiot sportswriters thought the team would do before the season began. It has next to nothing to do with the job the manager did. Would you seriously be happy with former MOYs Williams, Manuel, Bowa, Baylor, Zimmer, Lamont, Torborg, or Dusty on the Cubs bench next year?
  13. Yeah, just release Mark Prior. He sucks and has no penis.
  14. I'm really [expletive] sick of Prior being written off as dead because of 1 legit injury season.
  15. I have no clue what you're getting at. Are you arguing that Dusty Baker is a good manager? I never said or remotely implied that winning manager of the year means you aren't a good manager. My point is winning manager of the year means less than winning a gold glove. As for the etc. in your manager of the year list, here's who they are: Jimy Williams, Jerry Manuel, Larry Bowa, Don Baylor, Don Zimmer, Gene Lamont, JEFF TORBORG.
  16. How many above average budget teams has he coached? Not many. Do you think the Marlin fans care that they were a wild card team when they won the World Series? You're right that 54 - 108 AAA season shouldn't be counted against him and is a good example of why overall records can be misleading. He'll wise up on Neifi. Why shouldn't a 54-108 season be counted against him? Are you saying the quality of the players is what should be looked at? Are you saying the most talented team wins the World Series every year? That managers don't make a difference? That despite being voted Manager of the Year six times (by observant Sports writers like Bruce Miles), Leyland is not a good manager because he lost 108 games with a AAA (at best) team? So team does bad, blame the budget, and the talent. Team does, good, yay manager!! Dusty Baker, 3 time Manager of the Year.
  17. Even after this year, Leyland's career winning percentage is under 500. This will be his 7th winning season out of 15 seasons. Following Marlins fire sale v. 1.0, Leyland went 54-108. He's finished in 1st place zero times without Barry Bonds, and looks like he may not change that this season. And he's got a real disturbing infatuation with Neifi.
  18. And proved it again in Color....oh, nevermind.
  19. I know it was a big one move, but Williams really only made one move to improve the offense in bringing in Thome. In conjunction with that the CF offense got worse. The big reason for the Sox offensive improvements is from guys that were already on the team. And I last listened to the Score like 4 years ago, so that could be around when Holmes switched.
  20. Billy Beane's $#!& doesn't work in the playoffs.
  21. Chicago (-3) Pittsburgh(-2) Buffalo(-5.5) Tampa(+3) Detroit(-7) Washington(-4) Jacksonville(+7) Tennessee(+10.5) Baltimore(-6.5) St. Louis(+4.5) Philly(-6) Seattle(-3.5) Denver(+7) Atlanta(-3.5)
  22. Try living among the vermin. But yeah!!! shout out for Bourbon Street!!
  23. It depends if the Tigers are set on winning the division. For the Tigers to be forced into a wild card playoff, the White Sox would have to go 10-0 while the Tigers went 4-6. The playoffs are theirs.
  24. Sad, but this is almost encouraging, that Hendry could possibly view it as having a chance of being really important. By saying he's not sold on it being the most important offensive stat, it implies that he knows it is important, even very important if it's in the running for most important offensive stat. The only worry is that the other things he has in the running are runs scored, sacrifice flies, and triples.
  25. His no trade clause was because of the brick wall in the OF. And as I once again feel the need to point out from the original post. Pierre is not awful defensively. He just has a horrible arm.
