  1. Where'd we get Ciaramella from, was that for Jermaine Van Buren? And I'd love to get an update on the Holdzkom story as soon as somebody comes across one.
  2. I wish Latroy nothing but the best, except when he pitches against the Cubs.
  3. That's not allowed anymore. Green Bay is grandfathered in.
  4. When done the right way means somehow spending 75 bucks per person at a game, then either I'm spending way too much getting drunk with my kids, or I'm spending way too much on the brats for useless souveniers or great seats that they don't need. The way they calculate the cost for those things is ridiculous.
  5. Well now you are going to have to see the WHITE (not blue, not "cubs) with tiny little barely noticeable blue (which is supposed to be the cubs color) every single home game. You will never see another home color ever again. It's gonna get old. Cause really, white jerseys at home?? Who's ever heard of that? Whether it is comon or not is not my point. It is basic, it is boring, and it has barely any of the cubs color (blue) noticable in it at all. That's how nearly every team's standard home unis are. It's what home uniforms are supposed to be. Coming up with uniforms to be different leads to uniforms that look like they're out of the arena league. Baseball is an old game, and the uniforms should look classic, not post-modern.

  7. I've had jerseys for softball teams. It's cause you don't play real man's softball that you've never seen them. I actually really like the grays. As somebody else mentioned road jerseys aren't supposed to be flashy. Gray, with the city's name on it, it's perfect. Pinstripes on the grays Tree?? I'm assuming/hoping that was a joke. Getting rid of home pinstripes? Unamerican.
  8. Wolf's been here a lot longer than you have. He's far from a troll.
  9. Hahahaha, was it even his decision, or did the Cubs tell him to stay in Mesa? Hahahaha, I don't know. If you were a betting man, what would you put your money on? Hahahaha, did you even read the article? I am a betting man, and I'm betting no. Hahahaha, yes I read the article. It doesn't say who's decision it was, but if you can honestly tell me that you wouldn't be surprised if Prior said it, then you haven't been paying much attention the last few years. You haven't ever been paying attention to minor league stints where guys go to gain arm strength if you think this is unique to Prior.
  10. I was getting worried that there wasn't enough insane freaking out going regarding Z's contract situation. This is much more fun.
  11. The Neifi trade got us out of a year+ of Neifi at an absurd rate, while getting an okayish prospect in return. This will likely net cash considerations for somebody who really wasn't costing us much at all. it's no contest.
  12. I don't want to make it look like I think Walker doesn't belong on a 25 man roster, he certainly does. But, when you're trying to prove your case to someone that you were one of the best 25 options on a team, and were cut solely for monetary purpose, and then following that can't latch on as a 25th option on some team who is inferior to the Padres,(Not the A's, just talking generally about bad teams in MLB not signing him) then it seems like what was already a tough case just got a whole lot tougher.
  13. Not necessarily. After all, it's pretty late in ST to be picked up with another team after being released. He can make the case that it was the only opportunity he had. Which is going to hurt his case. There are 29 teams out there he offered his services to and the only opportunity he had was to sign a deal that doesn't even guarantee him a 40 man roster spot, let alone a 25 man. Seems like a cut and dry win for the Padres.
  14. It's all relative to your position in life. There are homeless people out there that couldn't believe somebody would haggle over 4 dollars an hour, when they already have the means to live comfortably.(That is with a dwelling) People have this complex with millionaire individuals where they already don't think they deserve to be making the money they're getting in the first place, so to be asking for more than the BILLIONAIRE corporation offers is insulting to them. It's ridiculous. Whether you're penniless or a billionaire, there is a free market out there, and while I'm not a cold hearted capitalist who would go wherever the most money was, I'm never going to fault a guy for negotiating for more money even if he is happy where he's at. I've thought since the beginning that Zambrano has never had any intention of leaving. I think it's why you've had some schizophrenic comments about the negotiations from Zambrano until his agent finally put a muzzle on him and told him he'd take care of it. Z will be signed and he'll get less than market value because he wants to be here, while getting more than the Cubs initial offer, probably because it was insulting.(Yes, 8 digit per year offers can be insulting when comparing them with market price)
  15. Walker not getting a major league deal is really going to hurt his grievance. Even though he'll be up in the majors almost immediately.
  16. I'm confused, was he afraid to have surgery too?
  17. That's a really really good team.
  18. prior has probably given the cubs their $20 mil worth, by the way. his 2003 alone was probably worth that much. obviously, the rest of your argument sucks, but that part was especially bothering me, and it was one of the few parts of your rant that hadn't already been torn down. And if '03 alone didn't do it, adding '04 and '05 to it certainly has.
  19. It makes me puke to think about this series of events again, but Harris never even came up to bat. Dusty was too afraid of Lenny coming in to pinch hit that he went with the lefty, knowing that would really force McKeon's hand and force him to bring in the clearly inferior Lowell.
  20. Generally, I think comparing across sports is a bad idea. "Soft" in a contact sport like basketball and football is a lot more believable than "soft" in baseball. I see the same comparisons when people are trying to talk about how important chemistry or clutch is in sports, and they reference football or basketball to prove it in baseball.
  21. Hafner's never even made an all star game. He's the most underappreciated player in the game.
  22. It doesn't matter either way he'll be roasted by those who made up their minds on him over a year ago. DKWG managed to find a way to frame Prior's "putting his head between his legs" as him being overly cocky. Others will frame it as him not caring.(We call this the Corey Patterson method of hatred.) If he got pissed and said he'll prove them wrong and pitch his way back, well obviously he's a spoiled brat who doesn't think his results should affect whether he's demoted or not. "I'm Mark Prior!!! Do you know who I am? You don't dare demote me!!"
  23. A lot of players and executives are idiots.
  24. I don't disagree with you, but I honestly thing if Z REALLY WANTED to pitch for the Cubs, he'd take whatever legit offer we gave him. I know it would be rough to live on 15 million instead of 16 million (He'd have to wait another year before he could buy a small tropical island). I hate when I see stuff like this. It's arguing that you shouldn't have the power to negotiate for more money if you are A. happy where you are and B. richer than most people. Why not look at it the other way? If the (far richer) Tribune Corporation REALLY WANTED Z, they'd take whatever legit offer Z came up with. I know it would be rough to live on 1.49 Billion instead of 1.5(They'd have to wait another week before having the GDP of the Dominican.)
