  1. If you don't think Walt Jocketty is a great GM, then the only reasonable explanation is that you think Tony LaRussa is the greatest manager in baseball history.
  2. I'm not sure Heyman is calling Izturis talented. I read it as "the supposed talents of Izturis have yet to be seen by Lou Piniella." not as Piniella doesn't realize the talent he has in Izturis."
  3. No way, he'd get sued for all he's got, and possibly face jail time. It's one thing to get pissed off over a few million dollars in overpayment for a draftee, but to counteract that with screwing around with something that'll amount to hundreds of millions, if not a billion dollars, would not fly. Hey may not outright stop the sale, but he could possibly force them to go with a lower offer by not approving of the owners behind the highest one. The player's association needs to nut up and take this to court arguing this as a form of collusion. Of course they're major leaguers now, so why should they care about younger guys getting screwed. They're after their jobs after all.
  4. What does him being on a horrible team have to do with whether or not he can still hit HR's? It doesn't effect whether he can or can't hit HR, it just means the HR's are meaningless in the scope of a team game. As a Cubs fan, you should know all about Sammy hitting 50 HR for hopelessly horrible teams The majority of every player in MLB history's HRs are meaningless. Only HRs taht are the difference between a win and a loss are meaningful if you want to get technical. There's nothing empty about the accomplishment at all.
  5. hey tree, havent seen you in a while... would you really want to play the same game forever though? think the Commish's office might get upset. So that's why we got Bowen. Our offense was too perfect. Now Bowen can make the outs, the games will end and Seligula will be happy with us.
  6. That'd be just like this team. Keep (probably) our best option at catcher in the minors for 3 more months because we can't afford to possibly lose Koyie friggin Hill.
  7. Everyone remember how the Z/Barrett fight happened. And everyone hated Z and wanted him gone and were glad that he was gonna leave as a free agent. He finally crossed the line and his antics had grown tired. Now not so much. The retroactive blame on Barrett for Z being a douchebag that day is absurd.
  8. Thanks father. You have educated me on the topic of baseball morals. I sure hope this young thug never wears a Cubs uniform. It doesn't pertain just to this and it really doesn't matter, but out of curiosity, how old are you? Why do you care? Fishing for a date? Answered.
  9. This is being rumored as having happened already all over the trading floor. Should I chalk this up to one guy hearing the rumor, spreading it and it slowly becoming a fact?
  10. Congratulations to Mark, but 1.2 G/F doesn't really signify a "groundball pitcher". There's a difference between an extreme groundball pitcher (Webb, Wang) and someone like Holliman, yes. However, considering he generates more groundballs than flyballs by a decent margin, I think that qualifies him as a groundball pitcher. However, that's pretty much arguing semantics. 1.2 is about league average for G/F. I don't know how much things differ in the minors, but I would guess it wouldn't be much different.
  11. These reactions are absurd. Jocketty is a great GM.
  12. Oooohhh hahahahaha hehehehheheheh hohohohohoh hahahhaha My favorite memory of this post is your assuming #1 beause he hit a lot of HRs. My 2nd favorite memory of this post is you presumably just making up #2.
  13. Updating with news on the story seems relevant, making the same jokes that were used up well over a month ago, not so much.
  14. Ooooh this will be fun, blaming Barrett for all of San Diego's losses. I'm just glad we had Rob Bowen here today, that way there were no defensive lapses in the field.
  15. I have a bad feeling that Fontenot in the 2 hole means a lot more sacrifice bunting.
  16. Kenmore is the street.
  17. For the record Koyie Hill catching jokes will probably never get old.
  18. Re: Boers & Bernstein, I enjoy them from time to time, find them pretty amusing, but I never really pay much attention to their opinions or sources. They're not sports guys, they're entertainment guys. Re: Manny, I tried to clarify earlier that the poster was calling Barrett a bad baseball player because he's bad on the basepaths and defense, implying that you can't be a good one if you are.(as he pointed out, even in good offensive years for Barret, he was still "a bad baseball player") My point on Manny being a LF hurting the argument is that he had the same problems that supposedly make a "bad baseball player" and he was doing it at a position which is easier to fill than catcher.
  19. Again, Koyie holds the Texas runners from advancing more than 1 base!
  20. Koyie has limited them to 1 base at a time.
  21. That grounder would not have scored Soriano for the record. The thing that annoys me the most about this insistence on giving away outs to get one run is that it's always assumed by the supporters of it that these outs will be executed perfectly. "Everyone should be able to get a damn bunt down though!!!" Why?? Why baseball scout, should everybody be able to get the bunt down? Why should everyone be able to hit a fly ball 275 feet whenever he wants. Hitting a baseball is a very difficult thing to do, bunting one not straight back to the pitcher or in front of the catcher may be even more difficult. Playing for 1 run will often get you 0 runs, and it will never get you more than 1 unless you've got a team willing to throw the ball into the stands a couple times for you.
  22. If you play for 1 run, you'll get a maximum of 1 run. If you play for 1 run, in Texas, with Marquis on the mound, you'll lose.
  23. YOU DON'T HAVE TO MOVE THE RUNNER UP!!! He's in SCORING!!!!!! POSITION
