  1. I liked old Derrek Lee a lot better. This guy sucks.
  2. I've seriously gotten nothing done at work ever since we blew the lead. My company thanks you.
  3. Before last night, we had the worst batting average (.233 or something close) with bases loaded. I reiterate --- the Cubs choke in pressure situations!! weren't you proven to be laughably wrong on this point in another thread? Only bases loaded is a pressure situation.
  4. I hope Hargrove's a dope and leaves Weaver in. Cause really that's our only chance.
  5. Presumably Jones knew Theriot wasn't on 3rd base though.
  6. Especially given how bad their pitching rotation is now that Marshall, Guzman and Marmol are in the big leagues and Mateo is still hurt. LES WALROND Don't hate on Les! Les Walrond - 4.66 ERA JR Mathes - 5.00 ERA Neal Cotts - 5.68 ERA John Webb - 6.18 ERA Ryan O'Malleye - 7.52 ERA That's a first place team's rotation, people. Don't tell me about Les Walrond, I've created 2 separate groups on facebook related to him.
  7. Lou partially blamed himself for Tuesday night's game while saying don't blame this just on Barrett, there are 25 guys on the team and a manager that made mistakes. Eyre has no options. He'd have to be DFAd. He'd become a free agent and go play elsewhere. I'm not saying this is a bad idea for the Cubs to do, just pointing out Eyre isn't going to AAA.

  9. TT stole my response.
  10. Maybe their organization preaches patience, OBP, and the importance of the walk. We shouldn't get too excited yet. Fontenot's been up for all of two weeks, Pie has hit well since his 2nd callup, and Theriot's been mired in a slump recently. None of these guys are superstar prospects. Still, they are a better option than Izturis, and definitely show how stupid it is to pay the likes of Neifi Perez 3M per year. Actually Pie is a pretty big prospect Yeah, Pie is definitely a star prospect, in terms of potential. He may never be a superstar, but he could end up flirting with the 900 OPS level out of CF, which would be perennial all star kind of production. Theriot and Fontenot are not ideal starters. I like them both as bench players and occasional starters. Or, if you fill the rest of your lineup with studs they are economical filler. In 2008 I'd like to see Patterson, Fontenot and Theriot battle it out for 2B and utility roles, assuming they get a real SS. Or, if they find a real RF, then those three plus Cedeno could probably adequately fill the 2B and SS positions. Mark Derosa cries in the corner.
  11. I have to admit that I was a bit (well maybe more than a bit) ignorant when I first joined the board. I remember having an discussion with a couple people about Kerry Wood where I argued that Wood wasn't that great because he never got 15 wins a season. I was like a child that wandered into the middle of a movie. But I have seen the error in my ways and now I would never dare make that argument. I actually went back and read some of my early posts. Boy were some of them stupid. I almost slapped myself for some of them. My posts from that era of my life are all gone now, so my defenses of Dusty Baker are no longer public record.
  12. The Braves aren't trading us Saltalamacchia or McCann, and Pena is worse than all our catchers. For this season, the options are pretty much Barrett or the guys we have in our own system. Barrett is definitely the best option, though I would like Soto to get some actual playing time before the year is up.
  13. Preston Wilson was done 3 years ago.
  14. The real question is what happens when Ramirez comes back if they can't trade Jones by that point. At that point the (likely) options become demoting Fontenot, Pagan, or going down to 11 pitchers. Murton's gonna need an injury to see the bigs again before September which is sad.
  15. Great pitching all around. Countdown til all the credit goes to Hill?
  16. Was trying to catch up on the game thread since I missed most of it while swimming, but I'll participate for hopefully just these 3 outs.
  17. When's Ward eligible to come off the DL? I'm guessing once he's available, he'll come off and we'll go back to 12 pitchers. This is a 5 day move or so.
  18. Barrett would've picked up the WP and thrown it into the CF bleachers. And then sleep with sunny's wife.
  19. got any numbers to support that ridiculous claim? didn't think so. honestly though, i would love to see you list all the instances where barrett's d cost the cubs a run. That's the beauty of "he doesn't call a good game" Just blame everything that goes wrong with a pitcher on the catcher if you happen to not like him! The proof's in the pudding, look how bad he pitched!! All that may be true, Barrett is still a terrible defensive catcher. If he hits, I'm fine with him behind the plate. If he doesn't/isn't he's worse than usless. My personal opinion is that defense at the catcher position is vastly overrated as long as it doesn't go too far to the extreme. (A Matt Lecroy or current Mike Piazza) I find most critiques on a guy calling a game to be completely fabricated. It's true that Barrett isn't great at blocking pitches, isn't great at throwing out baserunners, and makes some stupid mistakes, but honestly how often does his below averageness at these things affect a game. Not as often as just about any other position on the field.
  20. I always confuse abuck and frost, but I hated both of them when I started posting here, and now agree with 90% of what they say. They can be very persuasive.
