  1. I like CFIC beyond his Cards fan allegiances.
  2. got any numbers to support that ridiculous claim? didn't think so. honestly though, i would love to see you list all the instances where barrett's d cost the cubs a run. That's the beauty of "he doesn't call a good game" Just blame everything that goes wrong with a pitcher on the catcher if you happen to not like him! The proof's in the pudding, look how bad he pitched!!
  3. hehe. Yeah, if that's the way you describe a throw that bounces twice before it ever makes it to the infield. And why does Jones do that exaggerated shoulder turn when makes his throws. Its like he thinks he is cocking his gun or something. realistically - 80% of the people on this board could throw better than Jones. He might have the worst arm of anyone I have seen in so long. I can't figure if it is arm strength or just technique - but why can he not throw it all the way in the air? I could walk out there today and do it and I don't play! It's technique, Jones's arm itself is rather strong, he just can't come close to controlling it.
  4. Vote no for Henry Blanco, starting catcher.
  5. After the ass groove I built up last night, I think I'll go swimming instead.
  6. How true! However, I'm not so sure he turns it around. He leads the Majors Leagues in passed balls and he's third in errors. He has single handedly cost us several games this year. To what do you attribute a total collapse in defense? It's not like he's been broken down by injuries leading to him slowing down and not being able to move as well behind the plate. Errors and passed balls for catchers are probably the most reliant on the situation compared to other defensive positions. Barrett's never been great on D, but he's never been terrible. I just don't see him getting this bad for no real reason. I don't think he positions his body well to block pitches. When I compare his technique with other catchers, it appears that he tries to block with his glove instead of his body. Whatever the case, he's been terribly ineffective. Did he just start blocking with his glove this year? He had something like 4 PBs a couple years ago.

  8. Rob's team is better and Locke's is worse, mostly because of injuries.

  10. As has been pointed out before as well, while Barrett's OBP is pretty abysmal, he's still slugging at a decent rate. There's definitely room for improvement on the offensive side, but he hasn't been horrible. His defense has been much worse this season than it has in years past, but I really don't think he's gonna keep up this pace on defense. Guys go through rough stretches on defense like they do on offense, and I really don't see Barrett more than doubling his career highs in errors and passed balls.
  11. The thing about Barrett is there's no alternative out there for him. Is it really the prevailing belief that Barrett is that horrible on defense that the just horrendous offensive production of Hill and Blanco are okay in his place?
  12. He has to be gambling against the team. No one could be this stupid. Why Loogys dont exist. Sometimes they need to eat innings to help a bum-rushed pen. Obviously he cant do it, so we need to find someone that can. Why was Ohman needed to eat innings?? Gallagher and Wuertz coulda taken out 6 innings before Ohman was ever needed. Which would've taken us to the 18th inning, and I don't think we need to make bullpen management decisions based on who we'd be using in the 18th. For whatever reason managers seem intent to hold out their long reliever til they have no other arms left and I just don't get it. In the process they wind up stretching short relievers for longer than they're used to and wind up never even getting to the inning eater.
  13. Everyone go back and look at Fred's box score. Ohman threw 40 pitches. Stunning that he couldn't finish that inning off.
  14. There will be no tipping of this cap Bob.
  15. Michael Barrett woulda hit into a 2 out triple play there.
  16. Well he's the one pitching, he can really throw whatever he wants, but the smarter thing to do is, shaing him off til he gives you what you want. but that would take all night. throwing what he wants is dangerous, especially with barrett back there. Well the hope is that they have enough of a repoire to have a basic idea what to do with batters.
  17. It'd be too tough to get Pie thrown out at the plate, so Hill will just have to work the count, eventually striking out on ball 4.

  19. So anybody else on the team besides Lee and the current baserunners are probably doubled off there.
  20. Oh come on fellas--I get tired of reading some of you in here who just blame Lou every time. Ohman had gotten righties out for the past inning and 2/3. How about putting it on Barrett--catch the stupd ball and we are fine. This team just doesnt make plays. PERIOD!! I'm with you on this particular play. If Barrett blocks the ball the guy is out. He let it get by him per usual. I'm so ready to have his butt launched in favor of a defensive catcher! If Koyie Hill starts this game he probably doesn't tie the game like Barrett does. I guess we wouldn't be quite as miserable. Who knows if Hill throws the same pitches and gives up 3 runs? I do know that they didn't seem to be on the same page in the dugout. Hill appeared to be angry with Barrett... Ultimately, a pitcher has the option to chose his own pitches but if he isn't sure he might defer to the catcher and that could be the disconnect after a run scores. And it's a guarantee Hill calls better pitches??? Looks like Barrett's done a great job with Hill all year.
  21. Damn you Cubs. You just got me to scream out "YES!"
  22. I seriously don't get happy for a ball until I see the ball back in the pitcher's hand. This ump is so [expletive] random.
