  1. Sometimes a change is in order, not only for the team but for the player. Barrett, right, wrong, or indifferent was singled out early on as one of the trouble makers and therefore one of the scapegoats on this team for this year. Even if he went on to win the Batting Title, he still would have been tagged for the fight with Z, v 1.0. There were a number of things he was getting blamed for (justly or unjustly) in defense, game calling, team relations, mental errors, and base running blunders. Does this mean he was the only one doing it? No, others have been thrown out stealing 3rd and getting hung up between the bases. But consistently, he was one of the ones showing the least amount of proper judgement in his total game. I hope he does well in SD, and i am glad we got a return on him before he headed out on us via FA. This at least gives us a backup catcher under contract for next year. Blanco is headed for surgery and that may be touch and go And Hendry is not giving up this year just yet. That is a terrible way to justify a trade. Clubhouse chemistry doesn't matter, I don't care that fans (you especially) blamed him for things that you are now admitting were only partially his fault. His production this year is pretty much guaranteed to outpace Bowen's significantly since Bowen can't hit. This is still a terrible trade. Saying you had to trade a guy because he was marked for trading is asinine. Clubhouse chemistry doesn't matter? Did you play baseball ever in your life? Did you ever play high level baseball?
  2. think what you will, but sammy sosa does not display the traditional characteristics of steroid use, among other things. A picture says a 1,000 words. Have you compared any current pictures of the Texas slimmed-down Sammy (see pg. 110 of today's Sun-times) with the Incredible Hulk Sammy that played with the Cubs in the late 90's? Don't people usually get heavier as they get older? If the size loss is totally due to diet then Sammy should be the new spokesperson for Weight Watchers. People are supposed to get more muscular as they get older? It's absurd to accuse a player of steroid use based solely on the difference between how they looked when they debuted to how they looked in the prime. It's doubly absurd to do it in the current era where there is an abundance of legal supplements and state of the art weight training at an athlete's disposal. It's downright bat(stuff) crazy to do it to a guy who grew up in the Dominican Republic and was clearly undersized when he started out.
  3. 3 times with SD with Todd Walker being the 3rd. Can't believe I lost to you.
  4. I'd start Barrett over Bard, why would Barrett be the backup? His cERA
  5. Or nobody. People act like Barrett went around punching anybody that looked at him wrong. Or is everyone retroactively blaming Barrett for Zambrano acting like a douchebag 3 weeks ago. After all, Z is pitching well now.
  6. Thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. you aren't 4th. Unfortunately there aren't good stats to smack people down with like when they spout out nonsense about clutchness.
  7. I thought the catcher in '08 was Saltalamacchia.
  8. Think he'll be under oath and at risk of prosecution at the press conference? I'll cheer as long as the Cubs win.
  9. Ronnie, I'll answer your Salisbury question at work tomorrow, I gotta get to bed now. Vote for me!
  10. Just for the record, and so I can ensure that abuck votes against me now, I did vote for you over him in the 2nd round.
  11. I've always been annoyed by people who came in to discussions about the Rule FIVE draft and went off on people for being stupid for writing "Rule V" I've always written it as Rule V and pronounced it in my head as Rule FIVE, but some condescending ass has to come around to try and prove that he's smarter than me when really he isn't.
  12. I root for the Cubs, Bears, Bulls, Celtics, Illinois, and Notre Dame. I play 16 inch softball. Am from the south side, but still persevered to be a Cub fan. One time my old girlfriend peed on me in her sleep. I like Amstel Light, Killian's and Fat Tire a lot. I'm a garbage man at basketball despite being only 6 feet. I've worked at a pool for a long time and now swim fairly decently. I am on my 3rd protege. One time I got a ticket for walking on the expressway. My friend burnt his house down in college. I hate towel jokes and people who question Mark Prior's mental health/toughness. I traded Carlos Zambrano straight up for Rich Hill in my fantasy league. I believe in focusing more on building an offense, becuase defense is too difficult to quantify in statistics. Dusty Baker was a horrible manager. The idea of Henry Blanco as a starting catcher causes me to dry heave. I watch Dr. Katz and MST3K on my computer I can name most any actor from popular sitcoms of the past 20 years. I love Wes Anderson movies. I love the Beatles. I love Scrubs, The Office, and Gilmore Girls. Eternal Sunshine is brilliant. I don't wish people happy birthdays on facebook. Around my friends, I am completely inappropriate whenever possible. I used to have Sean Salisbury's phone number until he got it changed cause we called him too many times. In addition to NSBB, I read baseballthinkfactory regularly.
  13. Neither Jason Kendall or Alex Sanchez have ever slept with Sunny's wife.
  14. Don't I deserve some reward for honesty? You don't see RynoRules admitting to his voting record. He won't even use his real name because of his fear of being exposed for the fraud he is.
  15. You were the potential 2nd round matchup.
  16. In an effort to sucker some last minute undecided votes, and/or have an excuse for people voting against me in the last minutes, here is who I voted for in the first round. Raisin Marco Andy CardsFan Garwilly Yeti Warp BalsaWood Jon Raw UMFan Sulley Rocket bhogg Xzero SweetPete Exile NewUser Ping Flames IMB Tree Snood Chocolate Milk Carniby (JERK) Banedon Soccer10k abuck BeerHere Brian Erik ME
  17. Unless the question is who is a better baseball player than present day Steve Finley.
  18. 120 IBBs in one season is going to be tough to beat.
  19. For the record I voted for the people in this thread that can't decide. Yeah, with 20 hours to go, I'm going to begin the pandering.
  20. If anyone trades corn, go ahead and unite with me!!
  21. KC is not better than the Cubs or Cardinals in the very least. They might be the worst team in baseball still.
