  1. The only thing worse than trying to trade Dempster for no apparent reason would be making him a starter for no apparent reason.
  2. Aaron Gray, seriously??? I would've explored every possible trade option, as I didn't see much difference in those mid round guys. If I was stuck with #9 I woulda went with Julian Wrigth or Hawes. Hawes's strengths down low (posting, scoring)are the things that Thomas is still raw at and Wallace is still incompetent at. I wasn't nearly as adamant about Wright or Hawes as I was with Aldridge last year, but I just don't see Noah improving this team much either now or 3 years down the road. Wright is as redundant as Noah but at least he has some breakout potential which Noah does not. I don't think Noah provides anything that re-signing PJ Brown couldn't have done, and that's at what he thinks he maxes out at. It's all my opinion from what I've seen, but I just don't think there's a lot there.
  3. I kind of think that reporters are idiots and don't have a clue about much of anything. I dont disagree when it comes to general baseball knowledge. What I am saying is they are closer to the individuals than we are. They probably have a better idea what players are doing. This is why Ripken was always reported as being a great guy and Eddie Murray as being a wanker. I also think they kind of know who is doing and who isnt. This is why I think some players get the rep and some dont. Eddie Murray was reported as a wanker because he wouldn't give the reporters good copy. Ripken would. Reporters are kind to the guys that are kind to them and unkind to those that don't give them a story.
  4. I didn't think I could be more disappointed than I was with Tyrus Thomas over Aldridge. But here we are. Noah sucks.
  5. Alex Gonzalez and 3 bits of string for Nomar and Murton Hundley for Grudz and Karros LaTroy for Aardsma and Jerome Williams. With all of Jim Hendry's faults, and there are many, I have no clue why somebody would try and pinpoint his trading as being the problem. it's the one thing he's actually done well.
  6. I kind of think that reporters are idiots and don't have a clue about much of anything.
  7. I am just ecstatic that 2 years in a row we're gonna draft somebody I want nothing to do with.
  8. Sacrificing offense for defense has been one thing that Piniella has been (rightly) willing to do for the most part. I don't think the difference between Burrell and your average RF defender is much. I'm one of those who sacrifices defense for offense because defense is so hard to quantify. Burrell in RF would be a nightmare. I really think Philly would make the trade though. Burrell is this year's Abreu to Philly. Abreu was a far better player and they got nothing of value for him.
  9. He deserves to go easily even with a DH penalty, which I think needs to be taken in account when evaluating HOFers. I could see him having to wait a long time though.
  10. I hope we draft LaMarcus.
  11. I want to say it was Dan Evans that was GM of the Dodgers, pretty sure Kevin Malone was gone by then.
  12. He could sign with the Brewers.
  13. It's hard to tell. Lou has brought Howry in 3 times and Marmol twice. And Ohman once. Bullpen by committee. Ohman was only in there because Marmol was having a rough day. If Marmol would have had a 1-2-3 inning, Ohman woudn't have pitched. Ohman was in because a tough lefty was the tying run. It had little to do with Marmol's performance.
  14. They wouldn't be messing with Z's days of rest-they would be using the off game today to move him up one day and pitch on normal rest instead of one extra day. With that said, I hope they don't. I think Z should pitch the last game before the break, and then he can pitch again the first game after the break. With the way the Cubs are going right now, it would really be nice to have two Z games in a row, and it would be normal rest for Z. I hate 4 day all star breaks.
  15. I wonder how much of Jones's contract teams were looking for the Cubs to pick up in the offseason.
  16. I don't understand why DeRosa wasn't the one to get the tryout at SS instead of Fontenot.
  17. I think this is exactly right. Fontenot's play should be the deciding factor. I'm basically with Goony on this. We've seen fast starts from Theriot and others before only to be followed by a pretty long and corrective slump. That may never come for Fontenot, but if it does, and it likely will, if Cedeno is still tearing up AAA, he should be called up. Until such time, Cedeno should remain in AAA. He has only been raking at this level for 67 ABs, so he could use more time to maintain a level of consistency. Cedeno's had 143 ABs in AAA this year. He also had 245 ABs of 921 OPS in '05.
  18. And followed by an absolute bomb by Fontenot. Mike Fontenot is not gonna hit 400 all year, but there's no reason to take ABs away from him while he is.
  19. I seem to remember hearing MacPhail say Dusty wasn't a fit for this Orioles team. I think the list of candidates is pure speculation.
  20. Odd that Hill is starting the day game after the night game. Lou really hates Izturis.
  21. Leaving for the game, so I'm going to be completely lost until I get home tonight I guess.
  22. just amazing how many people in this world who find employment with no qualifications other than being a hoochie. Everyone needs a job Who am I to judge? I bet you Cabrera hass hit on them all... From knowing a Sox promotions girl, I'm guessing you're right. EDIT: Thought you said "hit them all", not "hit on" Cause he's definitely hit that.
