  1. I've argued for quite some time they were the best Cubs team since the 40s, and maybe more.
  2. That was sarcasm, everyone isn't as dumb as you think they are. Of course, that'd probably be impossible.
  3. Look for Demetrius Jones to transfer.
  4. The logical thing would be to use King as the true LOOGY and let Shouse be a full inning setup man. I don't know what the Yostian thing to do is though.
  5. Chris Hoiles.
  6. Fuld's definitely a shock. If I'm understanding you correctly, TT, I disagree(I'm assuming you mean this is a token rostering and then he'll be set free in the offseason) Fuld is only 25, and I don't understand the rationale behind a move like that. Then again I don't really see the need for him now either.
  7. Haven't we already been through the lowpoint where things would have to change. This team won 66 soap dropping games last year, and the philosophy didn't change. What on Earth would make you think that without a different view from the ownership that a 15 game improvement wouldn't be seen as a big gain.
  8. Monroe isn't signed through '08, he's arb-eligible. I'd guess he'll be non-tendered and they'll attempt to re-sign him at a lower rate.
  9. You nailed it. Z signed a contract and stopped trying to pitch well.
  10. This is nuts, of course we do. What Vance said. I'm a fan of the current team first, the long term team second. That doesn't mean I want to mortgage the future for present success, but it certainly doesn't mean I want to give up the playoff for a possible change in philosophy on building a team. This isn't like rooting for the team to lose down the stretch to get Dusty fired and get us a high draft pick. That's the difference between 75 wins and 66 wins, and really who cares at that point. Wanting the team to fall short because they might get smart because of it, that's lunacy.
  11. The Trib doesnt have the article up yet, but I explained a little more in another post. When the article comes out Ill post it. But he doesnt think he deserves to be bood. i see that now. i was sure he was just saying he heard the fans and knew that he sucked, this just blows me away. i guess it's time to start the move to run him out of town, should be fun Right after signing? Oh God, this could really start to suck. things could get really hilariously bad pretty easily. everything will be cool if zambrano can avoid sucking for a little while, but if he has a couple more bad starts and keeps getting booed, who knows what will happen. I'd expect a Lou forced/written apology tomorrow before the game. Mentioning how he's disappointed in how he's pitched the last month, how he plans on turning things around and making the fans cheer for him. And I absolutely can not believe that Piniella didn't talk to him after that and coach him on how to deal with the media after the game. Crazy.
  12. Wow. Idiot.
  13. Putting Mike Maroth back in the rotation blows my mind.
  14. Yay for amateur psychology. I've still yet to have anyone explain to me why Zambrano doesn't allow an exorbitant amount of unearned runs since he supposedly curls up in a fetal position and starts weeping whenever somebody makes an error. Maybe he should see the same psychiatrist Rich Hill saw. Cause ya know, he was pitching bad, so that meant he wasn't mentally tough. But now he's pitching well, so he must've got over his anxiety. My favorite part of it all is the same people who rode Corey Patterson into the ground for not caring because he didn't throw his bat at the screen everytime he struck out, are the same damn people that say Zambrano being emotional is what causes him to do poorly. Nobody calls him a headcase when he's doing well, he must be off his meds right now or something. Stupid cheap Tribune ownership won't give him good enough insurance to get his prescription filled.
  15. Hmmm, Len's probably right, stupid of me to doubt him. Quick look through game logs shows a lot of doubleheaders.
  16. Those numbers can't possibly be right Len. The Cubs have played 180 games on Labor Day in the past 120 years? Were Labor Day doubleheaders standard back in the day?
  17. Yeah, that doesn't come close to passing the smell test. Haven't won one since '03, when they won both. Won 1 apiece from '99-'01. Won 2 in '98.
  18. I know it's impossible to actually get an answer on the topic, but has Murton actually been hitting the ball hard, or has he had a good day at the plate in the way Cliff Floyd alway has good days at the plate when he goes 1-4?
  19. Scott Proctor trying hard to put himself on the shelf for 12-18 months for no apparent reason.
  20. I took Z's gestures as to mean, "yeah I know I sucked today, my bad" I could see how somebody would take it another way, but that was my first instinct.
  21. That ball was clearly Jacque's. Murton should have yielded sooner. I'm not being a Murton apologist, he's looked pretty bad in the OF (which surprises me because he was pretty average out there last year, I really don't know what happened to him), but there has seemed to be a lot of communication problems in the OF this year, mostly between Soriano and Jones, though that's more because our RFs have tended to have no range whatsoever so they're never there to interfere with Jacque. I don't know who's to blame if it's primarily Soriano, Jacque, our RFs, or everyone, but there's been a lot of near misses on collisions in the OF, and I fear for one of them actually coming through at some point.
  22. Quick somebody complain about Jacque smiling after catching that ball.
