  1. Not me, but there is a 0% change that Bellinger would forego free agency at this point unless the Cubs were willing to overpay excessively. The Cubs could absolutely resign him in the offseason if they offer the most money, but Boras isn't going to take Bellinger off the market without seeing all the options out there.
  2. No fastball command tonight. Kept missing by just a little bit.
  3. I think I mentioned it in the draft thread at the time, but Wiggins's fall ball performance is the only thing keeping me from bashing the pick even more. Van Horn is one of the best head coaches in college baseball; for one of the best programs in the nation. He obviously saw some tremendous improvements in Wiggins in fall ball to annoint him as the Friday Night Starter for a team with designs on a national championship every year. He's not trotting out the 2022 version of Wiggins on Friday nights against the aces of other SEC staffs.
  4. I give them all the credit in the world for pouncing on Horton when the rest of the world (myself included) felt it was a reach. But I'm going to need to see at least one of their pitchers actually make an impact at the big league level before they get this kind of treatment from me. I believe Keegan Thompson is the most recently drafted pitcher to pitch valuable innings for the big league club. He was taken in 2017.
  5. Gross that they went overslot for a guy with literally zero college production and a current blown UCL. So many other avenues they could have gone with far less risk. I am mostly discouraged they went overslot for Wiggins, and obviously planned to do so. This handcuffed them from going overslot elsewhere. Not upset at all they went for ceiling, but there were plenty of other routes to go without the accumulation of risk that Wiggins has. But whatever. He’s a Cub now. I will cheer him on with the rest of them.
  6. Gross. But whatever. That ceiling is fun, regardless of how many obstacles there are to getting there.
  7. I think the deadline is 5PM EST, so a little more than 3 hours. But yeah, probably unlikely.
  8. I'm going to go ahead and say that there is a 0% chance of this happening, unless Wiggins changed his demands post-draft.
  9. Under 24 hours now for Wiggins to sign.
  10. Derniche Valdez back in the lineup in the DSL today. Good to see.
  11. Mead seems like a pretty big stretch for a rental like Stroman, even if Gomes was added. I’m not advocating for it, but it’s probably more in the realm of a Xavier Isaac and mlb-ready reliever area.
  12. Caissie bomb. Well this is turning into a fun night on the farm, despite none of the more heralded pitching prospects going.
  13. 1. Kopech is pretty terrible, so the first trade would be a hard pass for me. Maybe make that deal based around a Nelly Velasquez package. 2. I would do the Morel/Cabrera deal. This one makes a lot of sense to me. 3. I would absolutely be on board with PCA for Cease, but only if a reasonable Bellinger extension was already in place. That won't happen with Boras, so this one is moot. But that would be the type of deal you would have ask for if PCA was involved. 4. I don't hate the framework of the Steele deal. I think Kjerstad is going to hit well for quite awhile in this league. But I wouldn't want Mayo as part of this deal unless the O's somehow threw him in as a 3rd piece. Iffy defense at 3B and I'm not a fan of his hit tool. Power is terrific though, when he does make contact.
  14. The first one would absolutely shock me. As Raisin pointed out, he couldn't do any workouts for teams so it would be weird if he went only to do interviews. But the second one seems very reasonable. Medicals get misconstrued all the time, especially when they are based on tests performed by someone else. Cubs could have gotten a different angle on some imaging or something that they didn't previously have. Certainly not saying it's likely or probable, but it is at the very least possible.
  15. I had this thought as well. If the Cubs' medical staff uncovered something additional in the physical, they may not even sign him at all and pick again at 69 next year. They have to offer 75% of slot to get the pick next year, though. Wiggins may decide that the risk is too much and just accept it. Unfortunately there really isn't anywhere to spend the overslot money anymore, unless they could convince an undrafted prep kid into signing.
  16. He snapped off a few good sliders but for the most part, they were lacking. He wasn't getting any swings and misses out of it.
  17. Yeah, the inherited run scoring was just like what happened to Ferris yesterday.
  18. Horton’s slider didn’t have its usual bite tonight. But then again it’s been 2 weeks since he’s pitched, so that may have something to do with it
  19. I'm pretty sure most on here would love a Bellinger extension for 5-6 years. But he's a Boras client and it's just not going to happen at a price point that makes sense.
  20. The interwebz is pretty unclear about this, but does anyone know if it still is true that compensation picks are protected for a year if they are in the top 3 rounds, as this pick would be?
  21. I will always remember him calling the Hayden Simpson pick when literally nobody had ever even heard of the kid.
  22. For all the PSD alum, did Marlin Bystro ever make anymore appearances? That guy was money.
  23. That seems just about right for peak. As a hitter, I keep going back to Starling Marte for my comp.
