I'm thinking the Lee injury has saved Dusty's job. Even if (when) they fall into last place, the Lee injury is the excuse de jour (also adding in Prior and Wood). The thing is, this team would be terrible with or with out Lee, so it shouldn't matter. Don't tell that to the national media though. Any time somebody talks about the Cubs' struggles this year, they point no further then the injury to Lee. Now Hendry is in a interesting/difficult position (which he caused). He can't very well sign Dusty to a one-year extension to see what he can do with a "healthy" team. On the other hand, how can he justify signing Dusty to a multi-year extension with the way this team has played? IMO, he can't justify extending him at all, but he probably will. In fact, I don't see how he can justify not firing him now, but it's not happening.
