  1. I'm not so sure they're there yet. I don't know how much pain Wood is really experiencing, but if it's mild (i.e. the pushback is precautionary) then I wouldn't be talking about moving him to the pen, yet. If it continues like this for a handful more starts, maybe.
  2. I was thinking that too. I mean, they better be pretty sure he's up for it. This is not a big game for the Cardinals. So what if the Cubs get within 10.5 games. They need to be looking at the big picture (unlike the Cubs). It's a big gamble, IMO.
  3. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I wonder if Dusty is even considering putting Womack in CF for a few games. I really just can't take much more of Pierre, especially leading off. Facing a lefty sometime might be a chance to go Womack in CF, Walker at 2B and Nevin at 1B (because I don't think Jones will sit against lefties for a while).
  4. lineups? I'm anxious to see where Nevin plays (I'm assuming 1B).
  5. I'd say that's a very fair assesment by Rosenthal (other then suggesting the whole Lugo thing).
  6. Well, considering there's not an ounce of evidence that Pujols isn't his listed age, and there are mountains of evidence that he's a good guy............. it seems pretty obvious which one is more pathetic. Thanks for furthering my point.
  7. By whom? People who for some reason respect journalists. In other news: Albert opens restaurant; all proceeds go to charity Sorry haters, but he really is a good guy. Whether you respect his claims of his age or steroid use or not, you can't deny he is a good man. Or are the prices at his restaurant going to be too high, Cubbierich? I really don't know what's more pathetic, the Cubs fans obsession with claiming that Pujols isn't his listed age, or the Cards fans obsession with trying to prove that Pujols is a good guy and all Cubs fans must admit it. Who cares? Cubs fans hate to see Pujols do well because he plays for the Cardinals. The Cubs have 20 wins and are already 13.5 games back. Does there really need to be any further investigation into this?
  8. Getting off topic here, but what's Drew's status for next year. I was thinking there was a player's option or something.
  9. Wow. Those stats really are shocking, Fred. 287 OBP and 332 SLG!! Not to mention the pitching.
  10. I'm not against trading Murton in the right deal at all. If he can be packaged to get an impact bat, by all means go for it. I wouldn't necessary be anxious to trade him at all though. He's so cheap right now, and still could develope a lot more power. If nothing else, go after Carlos Lee (or whoever) for LF and platoon Murton and Jones in RF. I really don't see the Cubs trading Jones, though I'd be all for it. I think Hendry wants Jones. Murton would be a great fourth outfielder or platoon partner for Jones. He's so cheap, I'd hate to trade him unless it was to upgrade significantly at that position (LF).
  11. honestly, i worry that if he gets called up (I mean when) he will hit like .270 and maybe come up with a few "key" hits at some point and the Cubs will think he's primed for a great season in 2007 and bring him back. :pukel:
  12. mine will be if/when Dusty gets extended (so...any day now).
  13. Honestly, aside from wins and losses, I'd be pretty pleased if I thought they were just moving in the right direction with some sort of plan. At least teams like the Brewers, Marlins (sort of) and Diamondbacks are moving in the right direction.
  14. The Corey Patterson trade is NOT embarrassing. This is a kid who SHOWED no remorse for sucking when he was with the Cubs. He showed no ambition to improving (part of the blame goes to the Cubs, as well as Patterson). And quite frankly....his career numbers SAY...Corey will return to the land of the Nefti Perez, before the yr is out. This is simply a "hot streak" and it won't last, especially once teams know how to pitch Corey. Stupid Corey. All that showing up early for Spring Training, early to the park everyday, extra sessions with his pathetic hitting coaches. HE OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T CARE!! Look, he doesn't even break his bat over his knee when he strikes out like Z!
  15. Alright, enough making fun of the Cubs. Like you could do any better. You know the extension won't be longer than 2 years, to coincide with Hendry's. My bad. I almost forgot. I'll stick my head back in the sand now.
  16. And the funny thing is, if this did happen, Hendry would not understand the backlash from the fans and the criticism he would receive from guys like Paul "the hack" Sullivan. Jimbo: "Can't blame the manager that our best player is injured." Maybe your right, Jimmy, people should be blaming you for making and already dreadful offense worse and depending on two oft-injured, high-paid pitchers to anchor your starting staff. At least they're fast though, right?
  17. Tomorrow's off day should be a great time for Dusty and Hendry to finalize and announce Dusty's three-year extension. :pint:
  18. Team: NY Mets Player: Cliff Floyd Why he's available: The Mets have a backup of OFers and are likely looking for some pitching. Floyd is also a FA next year. Despite his poor start, I still think he could make a good platoon partner for Murton.
  19. I really just don't see it happening, unfortunately. MacPhail seems to be buying into the whole injury excuse and just finding out a way to, "knock guys in" (when there is no one on to knock in to begin with). I get the impression that Andy believes in Jim, I just don't know why. They'll probably "shake things up" on Thursday by calling up Womack (for Theriot) and starting him at 2B (hitting 2nd). That'll show 'em!!
  20. And your payroll is 8 times the team that got 50?
  21. that's what it says on their world series trophies probably - you kids are a disgrace. At least they've shown they know how to build a winner...twice.
  22. That homerun was sweet. Good for Jacque. But he still needs a platoon partner.
