  1. Can I ask him why this team sucks so much, or does it have to be a question about him? We suck? We are holding our own dispite having 3 rookies in our rotation. What do you want? an offense?
  2. Duke has only thrown 33 pitcher through 3 IP. :(
  3. Nah, I think obviously the best approach is to boo and rip a player up and down. That has been proven effective hasn't it??? Or maybe not. Or on the flip side of that we could just pretend that his past numbers don't exist and are no indication that his current numbers really aren't that much worse then what can be expected from him. Let's just assume he'll become something he hasn't been in four years.
  4. In related news, Dusty would not confirm nor deny that Derrek Lee is still injured and is unavalable for a relief pitching appearance should the need arise.
  5. Is this stemming from yesterday? He got smoked and I didn't see the attitude you're talking about. He looked upset with himself a few time for sure. He basically stated after the game that he pitched poorly and that was it (alluding to some work needed on his mechanics). I don't see how that's acting like everybody on the team has let him down.
  6. i would rather watch corey play than watch an older clone of corey play. :cough: Jock Jones :cough:
  7. I fully endorse this as Glendon's new "full" nickname. I've been calling him that since Wed Apr 26, 2006 5:34 pm Your mother must be proud
  8. I fully endorse this as Glendon's new "full" nickname.
  9. Positives: Murton and Cedeno. Not only playing well, but getting full time starting duties. I was very worried about their playing time going into the season and so far, Dusty has stuck with them. Walker not being traded. This has been huge now that Lee is out. Having Hairston or Perez starting at 2B (when Lee is healthy) would really hurt this offense. Walker is getting most of the time and playing well. Marshall has been good (as has Hill at Iowa), and it appears for now that Guzman is healthy. If and when the other SPs come back, the Cubs will have either great depth there, or some trade fodder. It looks like Wood may be back soon. Prior and Miller also seem to be progressing. Getting just two of those guys back would be a nice shot in the arm. Maddux has been outstanding. Barrett has been very good. Hopefully his finger injury doesn't hamper that. Bullpen has been great (aside from yesterday). Need to work on the walks though (same with SP). They have better team speed. How much that really matters is certainly debatable, but I'm looking for all positives here. Defense has been good, including Ramirez and Murton (two players who's defense may have been a "concern" coming into the season).
  10. Lifetime .299/.350 in April. PreAll Star .275/.321 My whole thing is that he should be given time to make an adjustment. Switching leagues isnt so easy (ask Mr Renteria). But we have a whole list of people who want to crucify him. I thought we were better than Red Sox fans, but was apparently wrong. I just hope he turns it around soon before it gets into his head. But he wasn't productive in the AL either. It's not like he was great last year (and previously) and this is something new. He's just not that productive. Granted, he's in a pretty bad slump, even by his standards, but I wouldn't expect a whole lot more then you're currently getting.
  11. Are people panicing? I'm very glad the Cubs are having a winning streak, but it doesn't alleviate all concerns about the offense. Pierre has clearly struggled to date (as he did last year). I really hope he breaks out of it (and I think he can), but if he doesn't, the Cubs offense will struggle to be productive. Same could be said for Ramirez, though I have a little less concern about him.
  12. I don't understand. How many times do people have to say that Ramirez is being given the benefit of the doubt because of his past? Jones is not productive, and really never has been. I'm not the kind of guy that's going to boo a player, but I'm not going to go ga-ga over a guy who, IMO, is not productive enough to be an everyday RF and has a poor approach at the plate. OF COURSE I'M STILL ROOTING FOR HIM!!! I hope he breaks out and does something he's never shown to be capable of doing in his career, produce offensively. Having said that, I do believe this team can contend for the playoffs. I've been encouraged by Cedeno, Murton and Marshall. I do believe Ramirez will heat up sometime soon and get back to what he's done the last few years. I also believe Zambrano is still going to have an outstanding year (and has shown signs of really coming around). I hope that Wood and Prior (maybe Miller as well) will get back soon and have a positive impact on the SP. I'm also somewhat encouraged that Dusty hasn't surplanted Murton (with Mabry) or Cedeno (with Perez) yet, and I hope that continues if and when Murton and Cedeno hit bad slumps.
  13. It's nice to see a REAL cub fan finally come out and speak. I couldn' have put it any better myself. I too have surfed this forum for awhile, just to read up on things and get other "so-called" Cub fan's perspectives on things. But to be quite honest with you, seeing these people continuously bitch about everything (in fact, there is a thread just below this one saying something to th affect of "I can't stand Pierre" or something like that I haven't read yet, don't know if I really want to), has really soured me towards alot of these, again, "so-called" Cub fans. The Cubs haven't won a damn thing in close to a century, yet all of a sudden everyone develops this consciousness and they want to boo JJ, bitch abou Pierre, etc, etc....And your right, I posted the exact same observation on another thread (JJ thread) how people bitched about JJ first pitch swinging, yet he hit a 3 run shot on a first pitch, fastball that was out of the strike zone, and NO ONE said anything about that. No one has yet to respond to me on that one. The thing that gets me is alot of these guys are so caught up on "stats" and NO ONE brings up other characteristics that people bring to the table. Trust me, if anyone has ever played competitive baseball, or any sport for that matter, there's alot more than simply stats. How about leadership, how about giving 100% everyday on every play, and possibly rubbing off on others? How about bringing experience a winning attitude from winning teams (ala WS in Florida for Pierre, and JJ in Minny winning the division 3 years in a row and ALWAYS being competitive with less than stellar talent). Did these 2 players have everything to do with their respective teams success?? Obviously not. But they contributed, probably alot more than anyone on here wants to give them credit for. Bottom line is, they are coming from winning teams and I believe their attitudes and work ethic is rubbing off. It's just like life, you surround yourself with good character, winning people and good things will happen. Again, everyone always talks about "stats" and "stats" alone. I even read a quote from Walker attributing alot of his early success to Pierre (I wish I can remember where I read it so some of these people can read it). When you read things from teammates talking about the things certain players bring to the clubhouse, the positive attitude and the hard work, believe me those things have an affect on people around you that can't be quantified by stats. Again, if you haven't played organized ball, you probably won't understand that. This booing and bashing crap after 3 weeks is absolutely sickening. I made a comment in another thread earlier that 75% of Cub fans aren't really Cub fans. Perhaps that was a bit harsh, but the negtive crap around here about the team and certain players pisses me off. Again, we haven't won the WS in 100 years, lets give some fresh faces, with winning positive attitudes and backgrounds, a chance to play......Besides, who other than D-Lee and Maddux have we had in here recently with winning backgrounds and good team personalities? (And don't say Alou and Garciaparra, I wouldn't exactly call them good team players, besides Garciaparra hardly even played). And we've seen the affect D-Lee and Maddux have had on the team. You'd be amazed at what happens when you surround yourself with winners... Thank you ATCfootball for your post, it's nice to see Cub fans being positive and backing the team 100%. Oh Jesus. Please kill me.
  14. This thread is funny to me. Cubs fan: Larussa is a douche bag. Cards fan: No he isn't, it's gamesmenship. Is this news worthy? I mean, to rack up four (premium) pages? News flash: Cubs fans don't like Larussa; Cards fans do. Story at 11.
  15. You are right and, again, I apologize if I offended anyone.
  16. Dude, get over yourself. Oh holy people who worship the Cubs regardless of what happens!! We loley trolls who sometimes questions moves by the Cubs or get upset when the best player on the team gets injured are so unworthy of your greatness. I bow down to thee. Just because people are having an emotional reaction to Lee's injury doesn't mean they "aren't going to be interested". And This is a perfect example of the labeling I'm talking about. I get called out by 2 Mods for calling people trolls when clearly I am talking about the interest level in the Cubs and the first response goes unnoticed. I take offense to the fact that the above post wasn't dealt with the same degree. I am not a "holy person who worships the Cubs" nor am I labeling any person upset at their misfortune. Rather then "getting over myself" why don't you ask my intentions rather then jumping to conclusions. If you take offense to what I said, I'm sorry, but I took offense to your post and others to the same effect (beyond this thread). Some people act like if someone criticizes the Cubs in any way (i.e. "Neifi sucks, Dusty sucks, Macias sucks, Jones in RF, etc) this person is not a "true fan". That is absurd. I root for the Cubs like hell. I hate the way Dusty uses Neifi. I hate his love for vets over youth. I hate the love for speed over OBP at the top of the order. I hated the Jones signing. Does this mean I'm rooting against these people? Of course not. It's downright stupid to say that I am. Just because I disagree with the team philosophy doesn't mean I'm rooting against them. I'm so sick of people claiming that. I hate it. The, "oh well, I'm going to be a true fan and "believe" in the team" crap is what I hate. I don't believe. I hope, but I don't believe. If I'm wrong, I'll be very glad. I'm hoping like hell that I'm wrong and this team can do something special. However, I consider myself a realist and I don't believe they are equiped to do so. In closing, I took issue with what you wrote because I read it as, "If you don't think the Cubs are good without D-Lee (or whoever), then you're not a good fan. I'm glad you're not interested, get lost." If that's not what you meant, fine, I'm glad and I'm sorry.

  18. You've gotta be kidding me. hahahaha...what else can be said to address such nonsense? For the 8 billionth time...oh...nevermind. Who cares.
  19. Thank you! I'm sick of the Neifi bashers. Way to miss the point. It was meant to be a joke. I guess it wasn't funny. Oops.
