  1. No, but he saw the field for the first time last night, in the bottom of the 9th. His mere presence in the dugout/clubhouse must have given them just the spark they needed. When he punched his glove and hunkered down, you could see the electricity arcing between the players on the field. My legs felt weak and I had to sit down. Somewhere distant, a child wept with tears of joy. A bastard child perhaps. Thank goodness you'd taken off you heels and put on your himalayan walking shoes.

  3. Has The Riot gotten a AB yet? I've admittedly been falling asleep half way through the games and haven't looked closely at the box scores.
  4. I find it hard to believe (the Wood, Prior, Hendry conspiracy theory). I have to believe if the team continues to suffer, it puts Hendry on the hot seat as well. He's the guy who brought in Pierre and Jones and was depending on Wood and Prior to be healthy in the first place, not Dusty. Also, Lou isn't much different from Dusty philosophy-wise. No thanks.
  5. hahaha...John Kruk is brilliant. Career stats (only 160 games for Cano though): Walker: .291/.349/.440 Cano: .303/.326/.456 Kruk thinks it's a good idea to give up MARK PRIOR for that "upgrade". BRILLIANT!!
  6. can't wait to see how Cedeno responds to this. i'd like to see Pierre all the way down in the lineup, but baby steps I guess. Blanco? i guess Barret was going to sit either tonight or tomorrow.
  7. Trade him to the Cubs for Perez, Rusch and Bynum (got cut some payroll to take on A-Rod's salary, dude).
  8. What trash did we get in return for Patterson again? Nate Spears has a .225/.329/.239/.568 line at Daytona! Well, excuse me while I clean up my drool. Yuck! The other player we got for Corey, Carlos Perez, has this line out of the Daytona bullpen... 13 IP, 26 H, 3 HR, 14 BB, 14 K, 10.38 ERA For those scoring at home, that's a 3.08 WHIP. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Oh my God I was wrong, it can be worse then I thought (and it is).
  9. Honestly, I don't necessarily believe that a public tirade is going to help, but honestly, at this point, can it get worse? Whatever Dusty (Hendry, Sarge, Clines) is doing now clearly isn't working. Why not try something else? Shockingly, calling up another speedy, redundant, middle infielder and sitting him on the bench didn't spark the offense.
  10. Jesus. As much as I hated overpaying for Pierre, I didn't imagine it could be this bad. I need a drink (again).
  11. 25 pitches? :? This was post-food poisoning and 3 days after throwing his previous bullpen session, not 5 days. Yeah, but it's just getting frustrating at this point. IF he's alright, we'll probably put together a program? This just sounds very sketchy to me. It's basically a 25 pitch side session. Why are there still questions about him feeling "all right" after throwing 25 pitches? I just don't like the sound of it.
  12. 25 pitches? :?
  13. For the right deal I'd certainly trade either one of them. As highly touted as they are, they are no lock to succeed at the ML level. If you can get a star player (four multiple seasons) then I think you can definitely justify it.
  14. Well, if Soriano was so available, maybe Hendry could have acquired him and flipped him to Washington. If not, I don't know why you are so convinced the Cubs don't have the prospects to trade for Wilkerson. I don't know if Hendry even inquired, never heard that he did. Wow, you have some pretty good inside knowledge there. Bradley plus another prospect (Antonio Perez) were traded for a player from the Texas League (Ethier). I have a hard time believe the Cubs couldn't top or equal that. I remember some rumors about that as well. I'd like to know if Hendry made an offer (that did or didn't include Walker). Dealing with TB certainly seems to be difficult. You may be right about the others, but you seem to just dismiss them as, "well, they probably weren't available. I'm sure Hendry tried." But who knows? I never heard about Hendry even sniffing any of these deals. Instead I heard Hendry talk about guys catching the ball and I heard Baker talk about speed. I heard praise heaped toward two terrible players in Jones and Pierre. I watched Hendry overpay for absolute garbage (Perez, Rusch, etc.) and claim the team didn't have the resources to go out and get guys like Brian Giles, Vlad (a few years back), Ordonez, Drew, etc. They have/had the resources. He didn't allocate them properly. Outstanding arguement They dealt Casey and Pena, so yes, they still deal. I'd have to think some quality pitching prospects could have landed you Kearns or Pena or, if you upped the ante, Dunn. I agree. I wasn't in favor of bringing back Nomar. Again, likely agree. I wouldn't give up Pie, but it's definitely a name Hendry could have looked into (if he didn't). If nothing else, Sanders doesn't tie your hands for three years, like Jones. Sure, you can probably trade Jones at some point, but you're likely going to eat a large portion of his contract. It was a stupid signing, no matter how you want to spin it. Really, even Patterson in RF was a better option then signing Jones. Not that Patterson is productive enough to be a RFer (he isn't), but he's still better then Jones.
  15. I'm not bbb or goony, but these are all names I'd prefer to Jones and/or Pierre. All of whom seem likely to have been available in the last year: Wilkerson Bradley Mench Kearns Dunn (I'm sure someone will say to drop this one) B. Giles (see: Dunn) Klesko Abreu Burrell Floyd EDIT: Hell, I'd prefer another year of Patterson instead of three years of Jones.
  16. What would have been the lift? Walker would have sat, and probably would have been more likely to not even be here. Soriano's numbers replacing Walker's numbers doesn't make this team any better. Not to mention, if Soriano had been brought in, I'd have to think Walker would have been traded (maybe even as part of a Soriano deal). Walker's and Soriano's numbers are pretty similar this year. I fail to see how replacing Walker's numbers with Soriano's makes this team any better. there was a rumor of murton for soriano, which got shot down by many here. the problem w/ improving for this year is that the cubs have to sacrifice for the future. good players just don't fall into a teams lap, and you need lots of things to go right to be successful in any season. unfortunately, the cubs have about a third of their budget out already. they have 3 starting pitchers out (yeah I'm counting Jerome Williams, who many of us were high on), and one of the best hitters in the game's out. any reasonable cub fan should have known the first month would be rough, as we waited for prior and wood to return. lee's injury compounded the difficulty to compete. Yeah, I remember that now. I would be against that trade, even now. I really think Murton will greatly outproduce Soriano in the near future.

  18. This is absolutely true. These problems are nothing new, yet, they continue.
  19. I really would be shocked if Dusty got fired during the season. I guess if things continue like this it could happen though. Really though, much of this year's team struggle has to fall directly on Hendry. He traded (too much) for Pierre and signed Jones to play RF. Meanwhile, he overspent on Perez and Rusch so as to limit his resources to sign a quality RFer or strengthen the bench. As much as I feel Dusty's past is more then enough reason to get rid of him, I haven't witnessed a great deal of terrible decisions on Baker's part this year (although certainly there are a few). This team is just bad.
  20. Bruce has a nice piece in the Daily Herald today expressing a desire to see Hendry give this team a shakeup. Among other things, Bruce suggest thinking about calling up Theroit and putting him at 2B, and bringing up Pie and putting him in RF. Is this a desperate move? Sure, but look at this... The are pretty much in a desperate situation at this point. As much as I'd like to see Pie keep working on thing at AAA, I would not dismiss the notion of calling him up now and plugging him in RF. It's a big gamble, but what have they really got to lose? The only real risk is the effect it might have on Pie's development. The bigger question may be, is Hendry willing to concede a mistake with Jones and bring up Pie to take his place? And, if so, will Dusty play Pie in place of Jones on a regular basis?

How do you know Corey isn't "kicking himself"? Nevermind, it's not worth argueing over again.

Dude you could totally tell by Corey's body language that he didn't even care. Pierre cares when he gets picked off. He said so in the paper this morning. sarcasm

  24. I'm all warm and fuzzy now. I guess I should just stay out of this thread.
