  1. yes... realistically available names. As for Lugo I dont consider him a realistic option... because there was never a reliable rumor that had him coming to the Cubs. But that's not what you said:
  2. JH isn't going to let ramirez leave. Now more than ever since he's got his "defensive" MI now. JH will keep ramirez and sign carlos lee, a SP, and hopefully try to improve OF at other positions as well. What about Hendry's past makes people believe this? On top of that, will he even have enough money??
  3. You beat me to the punch. I do think Schmidt has to be the #1 offseason target, but I think they need to trade for or sign another starting pitcher for #4 unless one of the kids really shows something in August and September. Let the kids battle it out for #5. As for an OF slugger, Sheffield might be the answer for 1 year, but a trade package of Murton/Pie plus Hill/Guzman/Marshall/Marmol plus lower prospects might pry loose a younger power-hitting OF. If Murton isn't traded, he should platoon with Jones. For the Cubs to compete in 2007, obviously DLee and Prior would have to return to form, ARam would have to stay, and Pierre and Barrett would have to hit like they've been hitting lately. Add some players to the bench and you might be pleasantly surprized at the results. Not exactly the 1927 Yankees, but a team that could compete in the NL Central. Andy MacPhail couldn't have said it better himself. "Could compete in the NL Central." Oh boy, for only $100 million?
  4. Oh, no way. I don't have a link handy, but someone used to have a quote in his sig from Eyre talking about how Eyre had established some ideal terms with his agent and Hendry's offer just blew those away. So you payed a couple of extra million for Howry and Eyre. Not a big deal. Im not second guessing those deals. Howry and Eyre are 2 of the best set-up men in the league. But look at it this way: Okay, so you only over paid a couple million for Eyre and Howry. That's $4 million total. Now you over pay for Rusch, Neifi and Izturis on top of that (I'll exclude Jones even though I think he's overpaid as well). You've probably got $10-$14 million in "overpaid" money right there. That's a front line starting pitcher or stud OFer. Remember that this winter when Hendry defends not signing "big time" free agents because he doesn't agree with overpaying for those players and he has to work with a budget (see: Vlad, Tejada, Beltran, Giles, etc.).
  5. Hendry has $10 million dollars used up between Neifi, Rusch and Izturis next season. I'd say he's limiting his chances to land both a stud OF and a frount line SP (both of which are needed if the Cubs even want to think about competing in 2007). Not to mention they'll need Ramirez to stay, Lee to revert to his 2005 form, Barret to repeat his 2006 career year, an above average (career wise) year from Jones, and a healthy Prior. Don't worry, I'm sure all of those things will happen at once.
  6. This is exactly right. You're all certainly entitled to look for a silver lining, but I really think Hendry has exactly what he wants. I'm quite certain you will see a MI rotation of Izturis, Cedeno and Neifi next season. I'd bet good money on it.
  7. Neifi finally gets his much deserved spot as the everyday 2B and #2 spot in the order. yay :pukel:
  8. That's exactly what should happen. That to me is a no-brainer. He's got nothing else to learn or prove in AAA. It's either step it up or step out. Let him take the bump every 5 days... The only way Hendry could justify keeping Hill in AAA was if he was trying keep his value somewhat higher because he was going to move him for a bat before the deadline. Since he's starting tonight, I assume that's not the case. He should stay in the rotation for the rest of the season.
  9. Wow, you just summed up my whole life in one brief sentence.
  10. i'm shocked that a lineup featuring Mabry, Pagan, Cedeno and Neifi couldn't put up some numbers today :tips cap to Mets pitchers:
  11. This is when he should be used...I hate to say it, but you need his defense in close games. I could see if you had the lead, but I'm not sure his defense is more important than Walker's offense right now. The Cubs have 3 hits. Walker just got the last out...you want to try and win the game now at this point, not later. The pitchers spot is still seven spots away! It's not like it's going to be up early in the next inning.
  12. This is when he should be used...I hate to say it, but you need his defense in close games. I could see if you had the lead, but I'm not sure his defense is more important than Walker's offense right now. The Cubs have 3 hits.
  13. hooray double switch! neifi was in danger of not getting in to this game!
  14. I'm shocked that this is so close. I'll be sickened if LZ looses to U2. :x
  15. If Prior is healthy, I think he should be making his regularly scheduled starts for the rest of the year. They need to get an idea of what he may be able to provide next year and, let's face it, his trade value can't get a whole lot lower anyway.
  16. That is the most hysterical thing I have ever read. According to who? Just ignore the 30 hr vs 10, just ignore the rest of the numbers all you wish, but nobody in the whole baseball world will ever tell you Todd Walker is a better ballplayer than Soriano. Twist your numbers all you wish, but the fact doesn't change-Todd Walker is, has been and will always be a lesser player than Soriano, except maybe in your fantasy league. If Walker is so good at things, why hasn't anyone traded for him when he has been available for almost two years? Hendry overvaluing him, I certainly doubt it. NOBODY IS SAYING THAT TODD WALKER IS A BETTER BALLPLAYER THAN SORIANO
  17. So bring in a big time producer in LF or RF and let Ramirez continue to "fly under the radar", as you put it. I don't disagree that he failed to "step up" when Lee went down, but I don't think that (along with the lack of hustle) is necessarily a reason to get rid of him. He's still a productive player and has a place on a good team.
  18. I'm kind of surprised at the amount of people that like/liked Reynolds on BBTN. I think he's awful. Saying he wasn't as bad as Kruk doesn't really mean much to me. A broken arm might be better then a broken leg, but I don't want either.
  19. I don't understand. Who is making excuses? Who is saying that it's okay? All anyone is saying is that it's not as big of a deal as it's made out to be. I think some Ramirez' strongest supporters in this thread have said they aren't happy with his lack of hustle, but it's probably not even in the top 10 problems with the Cubs.
  20. join this is a start, i guess. they should get rid of kruk and phillips too.
  21. You just made some people very unhappy--angry, even. It's gonna get ugly, but stay strong. You have supporters. Why do people always insist that others shoud "watch some baseball" when they disagree? God, that pisses me off like none other. Whatever. Go ahead and believe anyone who disagrees with you is an idiot stat geek who just stares at random numbers all day. Edited to ask: Who is comparing Walker to Soriano favorable now? I've not seen that at all. I've seen people explain why they were against a Soriano trade last season because AT THE TIME (i.e. 2004 & 2005) Walker and Soriano had very similar overall production with Walker making significantly less.
  22. True, but I think in 2004 and 2005 that would be a much more difficult question to answer. Nobody is denying that Soriano's production dwarfs Walker's this year.
