  1. I'm pretty sure it was posted/mentioned somewhere when they announced it. I think maybe around the end of the year or early offseason.
  2. Not good news. Kind of shows they don't give a [expletive] about staying under the luxury tax. Bad news both ways, the Yankees don't care about budgets (unless they know something about A-Rod) and that Shoo might be wanting more unless he hates the Yankees/NYC. It was before they signed Beltran. Their budget is separate than all, while I expected them to cruise way past the luxury tax, I expected them to stay close to their '13 payroll. I haven't looked hard at their budget but even with Rivera, Cano, Granderson, and Pettite no longer on the books, I can see them blowing last year's payroll way out of the water unless the A-Rod thing again. They are $50 million below last years right now, I don't think they are going to blow last years payroll out of the water. I just don't see the moves they could make to "blow it out of the water." Even if they'd add like Choo, Garza and Tanaka they probably will come in right around where they were last year. They probably add one more expensiveish SP and then ancillary parts.
  3. This just made me realize we haven't made the mythical "flier" SP signing yet

  5. I wonder if the Braves tried to force us to take Uggla's contract back with one of those guys for Samardzija?
  6. I'd love to see the Cubs stick to their guns with his development plan. I wonder what the specific benchmarks are (outside of the obvious) that he will have to meet before they bring him up? There is going to be a lot of pressure to do so as quickly as possible. Pretty much from all outside the organization though, which whether you like it or not, the FO has shown they don't give a [expletive] what those forces think/want and aren't going to make decisions based on what they want if those wants don't align with their decision making plans.
  7. ......
  8. Simmons had a podcast last week and he had a LA writer on, he threw out Gasol for Deng and 1 of Gibson/Boozer just as a hypothetical and the writer said that it was definitely something being discussed.
  9. I believe WC teams can't have home games, unless both WC would meet up then the better record would get home field. I think.

  11. I think it's a damn near lock Lake makes the team. As long as he doesn't get hurt I'd be shocked if he's not on the opening day roster and potentially starting (depending on the opposing SP).
  12. I would guess it's more of a scouting thing than a hard numbers thing with their decision of seemingly liking Lake more than Vitters. Since Vitters numbers were better at most levels
  13. Seems like he makes the team if Olt doesn't win the starting job no? Probably but hopefully Barney isn't locked in at 2B either and hopefully he will be in contention to take the job from him.
  14. Simple solution, go to dodgeball rules for runners attempting to score at home. They just have to be hit with the baseball and can't be tagged. Therefore no reason for the catcher to be blocking the plate as he can't catch the ball and tag the runner.
  15. Who has outplayed Cutler this year by a wide margin Jason Marquis probably performed better than Greg Maddux over a month long stretch during their respective careers too.
  16. I'm guessing the catcher won't be able to completely block the plate under the new rule(s) and have to allow the runner to be able to at least slide into a portion of it? Though obviously that still leaves a lot of ambiguity/subjective areas for the umpire to interpret.
  17. No, they don't. They've got Alberto Cabrera's little brother, but he's a 3rd piece and they've got Christian Bethancourt, a C with a fair amount of hype, but he's never hit. Excellent defensively, he'll have a ML career, but he's probably a .650 OPS type, if he's a starter. Without Sims, who's in A ball, they're just not any sort of fit. Not a great one EVEN with Sims, but you could piece together a deal. From MLBTR: O'Brien also runs down the Braves needs on the heels of a quiet Winter Meetings, noting that they're optimistic about re-signing Eric O'Flaherty. Atlanta is still pursuing a veteran bench bat -- O'Brien mentions Eric Chavez -- and are still interested in Jeff Samardzija. The Braves may be considered the favorites to land Samardzija at this point, says O'Brien, noting that payroll constraints will likely preclude them from pursuing David Price. If they are that limited on payroll I'd be cool with taking Uggla back in a Shark trade if it meant getting Heyward/J. Upton. Though #poortomricketts
  18. Have there been any numbers thrown around in these discussion with the rule change about how many plays at home plate resulted in collisions last year? Or how many plays happened that are now "banned?"
  19. Yeah...what sneaky said. It's his line against LHP. Plus defense would just be a nice cherry on top. You'd think playing strictly the lessor side of a platoon, thus limiting innings/not likely playing more than 2-3 days in a row, could help him manage his problem. Though genetic problems/degeneration problems are probably the hardest to manage as they probably come and go at unpredictable times.
  20. Almost as bad as giving the 3B job to a 25 year old who has a vision problem that doctors don't know what's causing it or how to cure it and who just put up a .671 OPS at AAA
  21. Didn't he get hurt last year towards the end? Is he even healthy? Or maybe I'm completely making that up.
  22. That would almost HAVE to mean Bradley is at least up for consideration, right? They can't possibly dream of putting together a package without him now, can they? I'm not even going to try and figure out what Towers is thinking in a Samardzija trade and how he values what pieces going in/out.
  23. What is his contract status, does he have a few years of team control left?
