  1. Couldn't they have just paid him a couple grand and paid for his travels at some point in ST to do this? Instead of taking him? I understand it's really not a big deal either way, just don't get why you have to draft him to have him come in and talk.
  2. Maybe? I could see the OF being Lake/Ruggiano/Sweeney/Schierholtz going into the year. Can Watkins play OF (at least in the supersub/5th OF type guy)?
  3. The Rangers took Russell Wilson in the Rule 5, yes the Russell Wilson.
  4. I wonder if this is the position player trade Theo alluded to yesterday that they had on the table or if that one is still out there and this one just kinda came up.
  5. Full Fangraphs description of Oliver:
  6. Idk, but its projection really likes Ruggiano for this year. 20 HR, mid .700's OPS and a 3.5 WAR. That's the same WAR it projects for Cargo. It also projects Javy at 33 HR and 4.3 WAR.
  7. That is an interesting destination for a hitter taking a one year deal. Yeah it is. Also a huge OF for a guy who probably still would like to prove he can play there to uphold/build some value in being "versatile."
  8. Don't let me down, Dayton Moore
  9. Always have liked Cain but obviously a decent amount more has to be included for Samardzija.
  10. Angels are clear winners in this one, IMO. D'backs get: Trumbo, PTBNL White Sox get: Eaton Angels get: Skaggs & Santiago

  12. Indians are listening to offers on Masterson, def am interested in him
  13. Same, though if I had to guess it's more Towers not valuing Shark than it is our FO not trying to make something work with them. Gets back to not understanding how on earth Towers values players whether it's his own he moves for less value that most think he could get or giving up way more for some guy he falls in love with/places value on that nobody knows how he actually derives that value.
  14. This is either false or Towers should be put in a room with padded walls. Cahill AND Skaggs for a guy who hits home runs but does nothing else notable? FWIW, I saw this exact same rumor somewhere on the Twitters and also on BBTN last night. Let's send them Rizzo for that package... No
  15. I wonder if he will try to get into some sort of coaching/broadcasting/FO position.
  16. Jeff Samardzija and Jorge Soler for Lee, Hamels and Dom Brown. Cubs take on all of the salary. Who says no first? I'd do that deal, but I doubt the Cubs do. If the Mariners/Jack Z are really looking to make some significant moves, what about something like Paxton, Ackley, Brad Miller and Hultzen/Maurer for Hamels, Lee, Rollins and Brown with the Mariners taking on all salary. I think the Phils/Mariners match up well in some variation of that trade whether it's all or some of those guys from the Phillies and they have the money (apparently) and the prospects to make something happen.
  17. Axford really seems to fit what we are trying to do with adding the final bullpen piece or two. Especially if we can offer him the closer role to re-establish value for a long term deal next year.
  18. Aren't a lot of scouts down on him? Didn't he see a velo/stuff drop off last year?
  19. I'd do Russell for Storen all day
  20. 3 years of cost control and a former 1st round draft pick. But I noticed he pitched at AAA at some point in 2013. Was he re-habbing an injury or was he sent down? He had a terrific 2011 and 2012, but his 2013 was not so good. Pretty sure it was a re-hab assignment for an injury
  21. Guessing this will be the transaction that guys were tweeting about that will be a desperate GM move or whatever from the other day. If that's the case I'm guessing Zunino is involved as Hultzen/Walker have lost some luster.
  22. I like the Feldman signing for the Astros. It might be a bit much giving him $10 million AAV, but you get a guy to lock in a spot in your rotation for the next 3 years that will likely give you a win or two over replacement and don't have to worry about filling that. They have plenty of other holes and uncertainties they can plug guys in and out of/try out at multiple other spots. To get some certainty in one spot in the rotation over the next 3 years is smart, imo, given where they are at as an organization.
