  1. Didn't they extend Venable towards the end of the season, iirc? Would seem to mean Maybin would be the one more likely to be traded then, no?
  2. So scouting/value wise does Choice seem to have about the same value as Vogelbach or Candelario? Or are those guys in another class from choice? Is he closer to Villanueva?
  3. Pretty sure the idea is to try to sign him to a minor league deal. Claiming him prevents another team from getting their hands on him, and demonstrates their interest to the player. You might also get the chance to work him out and get a better sense of where he stands on the depth chart before having to make the non-tender decision. Yeah, that and/or maybe wanting their own doctors/trainers take a look at him since he's coming off an injury and has had other injuries in the past?
  4. There were plenty of good reasons to believe the Falcons were a good bet/pick to win the NFC/SB before the season.
  5. A's trade Jemile Weeks to Baltimore for Jim Johnson
  6. Jazz beat the Rockets.
  7. ugh women watching sports is the worst. Next thing you know they're gonna want to vote
  8. Def would have some interest in Axford. He def needs some work on his command/control of his breaking stuff. But still has elite velo on his FB. Bosio I think was with the Brewers/his coach when he was good.
  9. We've discussed the 40 man in quite a few threads. And unless everyone here is missing evaluations on quite a few players, we're no where near having a true crunch. Are we in danger every year of having the Matt Loosen 's of the world plucked from us? Sure. Is it likely to affect us in ANY matter? Hell no. Will we soon be making 3 for 1 trades where we're adding impact players? Hopefully, or else we're all likely to go crazy. But our 40 man is definitely manageable currently. It's not even close to being a real issue, nor is our ability to comprehend the daunting task of looking at it. Kyle summed up our current state pretty well, in my opinion. And with trades or without, we're no where near having an actual crunch. The mistake in Kyle's post is the assumption that all named are likely to be worthless. Most I can buy, all . . . not likely. My guess is that Bryant, Baez, Wilson and other top end prospects combined with mid range prospests and . . . yes . . . free agents and players acquired via trade will eat up a lot of that space. While "worthless" may be a strong word for those guys, they are all highly expendable. Most have ceilings of replacement value players/second division role/bench players exactly the types of guys you don't lose sleep over having to cut/DFA/expose to rule 5 to bring in a player via trade/FA or call up an impact prospect. Also who the hell is Wilson?
  10. They must of valued/needed to dump salary just to get overall payroll down or for another move(s)? Fister only made like $4m last year, even in a big raise in arbitration he would have made maybe $8m this year, right?
  11. I wonder if this makes any of Straily, Anderson or Milone available. I'd have interest in any of those 3 for a rotation spot, depending on acquisition cost.
  12. @ESPN_Numbers In last 2 weeks, Josh Gordon has 498 yards receiving. The Jets' leading receiver ON THE SEASON is Jeremy Kerley, with 347 yards.
  13. Yeah the East is complete ass this year. Basically everyone is playing for draft position and then the Heat-Pacers are playing for home court in the ECF. The 8 seed could honestly only have 30-33 wins. What's the worst record in NBA history for a playoff team? The Bucks and Knicks at 3-13 (worst records in East) are only 3 games back in the loss column of the 7/8 seeds.
  14. He's signed through 2017 and has team options for 2018 and 2019. 3.5, 6, 9.15, 12, 12.5, 13.5 are the annual salaries 14-19. He no doubt has the talent of a TOR arm and that's a pretty nice contract he's under if he performs within reason of where he has the last two years, it's just there's a strong consensus among scouts/writers that his mechanics make him a ticking time bomb health wise that makes me a little bearish on him.
  15. Hopefully he really likes Barney
  16. Yeah, it's annoying. The way I have gotten around it is trade as many lower salary players whose salaries aggregate into whatever the higher salary players salary is that is "locked" and see if it works. So in the Cavs sake if you are trying to move Bynum+ to make salaries work for Deng, but he's locked, I would just do like Kyrie, Bennett and Karasev going to the Bulls. Those guys get you to around 100k of Bynum's salary. Edit: Deng for Bynum and Waiters should work (Kyrie, Bennett, Karasev and Waiters for Deng works) just adding Hinrich going to the Cavs in that same deal also works.
  17. I think that's a toss up between SF and MIA. Probably SF since they are at home. Though, GENO SMITH
  18. It's not frustrating when you realize that we will be bad for '14-'15 and that in '16 the young everyday players all of us can't wait to see will be here. What I hope Theo and Jed acquire young pitching back in return and not simply filler. Why would you write them off as being bad in 2015? At that point Baez, Bryant, Alcantara, Pierce, Edwards, Soler etc should be either MLB or very close to ready at their current pace. Baez and Bryant MIGHT be in for their first full season and the rest of those guys MIGHT get called up...well Alcantara might see time next year but I'm not hanging huge hopes on him being a key member anyway. Unless they decide to start trying in free agency or Baez and/or Bryant are amazing right away (and Castro rebounds), they are probably bad in 2015. Not as horrible and unwatchable as the last two years, but bad. I don't think Alcantara will be a star but I think he could be a solid contributor and I'd be a little disappointed if he's not up at some point this year and doesn't have a spot on the ML roster to start the year next year.
  19. Is Buffalo around in your league? Yep. Would you start over those 2 others? I'm starting Buffalo over Kansas City this week. I'm think about keeping them around for the playoffs too. Yeah they have a real nice schedule come playoff time. TB, JAC and MIA. I picked them up last week on their bye in one of my leagues to make sure I had them in the playoffs.
  20. Maybe its because the players of my teenage years are on the ballot but I could vote for like 20 players on that ballot, especially if you ignore steroids and HGH. Yeah no kidding. I have 19 I'd vote for. Bonds Clemens Maddux Schilling Mussina Bagwell Thomas Palmeiro Walker Raines McGwire Biggio Martinez Glavine Trammell Piazza Sosa McGriff Kent And it's going to be glorious when they only vote like 3 guys in and this log jam keeps growing every year. By 2020 there's going to be like 40 guys worthy.
  21. How many years of team control does Wood have left?
  22. I would like to see Hendricks get a chance at some point this year too. But I'd like to see some more substantial reasoning for it from our pitching coach (since, you know, he knows about pitching and stuff maybe something like talking about thinking one or more of his pitches is MLB ready, or he has excellent command, etc) other than "he's 22, another pitcher who is also 22 pitched in the world series, let's give him a shot!"
