  1. If we get Tanaka and keep Shark, I challenge you to explain how it could possibly be worse. We lose little from the offense and should get better without adding much from the outside. Starlin and Rizzo should rebound/improve, and we likely get 1/2 a season of Baez and other incremental gains. The bullpen is a lot stronger than it was to start last year. The rotation has taken a hit, for certain. But adding Tanaka would make up that gap pretty easily. If, and it is a big honking if, we add Tanaka, I believe we'll get to see interesting baseball in the late summer in a while. I'll be stunned if they get Tanaka. I don't think it's realistic to expect they land him; I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it. The offense was just rank last year, and they haven't don't much to improve it. It's basically hinged on praying that Castro and Rizzo rebound and that Baez both shows up and is good. Those are some pretty big if's; I really like Baez, but it's hardly unlikely that he shows up and struggles. Who are some of the better prospects, as of now, for the 2015 draft? I wish I wasn't serious about that question.
  2. I'm guessing it's mostly due to Aikman and Buck doing a horrible job and not even acknowledging a flag was thrown and the 49ers had declined the penalty.
  3. Is it safe to say WR is the deepest position in the class this year?
  4. I'd rather keep Deng for about 1/3 of the salary it would take to sign Melo 1/3? As a FA Melo's max (and what he will get) is 4 years 96+/-, in a s&t it's 5 years 130+/-. Igoudala got a 4/48 contract this past offseason, which I think is a fair comp for Deng, and Deng probably will get a little less. I figure 4/40 is a fair guess for what Deng gets, so 1/3 was selling a bit short likely. But the point was there are some significant savings in keeping Deng that hopefully could go towards adding either one more good-decent FA or a few good role guys.
  5. Going to straight up best 6 records in each conference and not giving auto bids to division winners would be better, imo.
  6. Phillies just signed a new 25 year $2.5 billion TV contract
  7. Roll Tide!
  8. Is there a date during the season that FA who have draft picks assigned to them lose that designations if they aren't signed? I'm just asking because I was trying to think of a market for Nelson Cruz today and can't find one, especially with the draft pick tied to him. Figured that if there is a date that players lose the pick being tied to him during the year if he'd be better off waiting until then.
  9. I'd rather keep Deng for about 1/3 of the salary it would take to sign Melo
  10. Yes to both It depends on whether or not they've already done that this year. The NFL limits the number of times a team can buy out their own tickets in a season. Didn't know that, but was mostly referring to the Packers case in which they are talking about doing that and haven't had to have the team/advertisers step in and buy tickets this year.
  11. Yes to both
  12. The thumb bone is connected to the groin muscle which is connected to the ankle bone which is connected to the knee and all are attached to TWTW.
  13. It's supposed to be -18 with wind chills reaching -30 below zero in GB on Sunday at game time (4PM).
  14. I was trying to think of what nonsensical thing you would be up to that you couldn't watch the game but could follow this website when I remembered the games may be blacked out this weekend. That would be great. Serves the league right for letting the Packers win. Wait, why are playoff games being blacked out? Because 3 of the 4, Packers, Colts and Bengals, all have thousands of tickets left and aren't sold out or to whatever number of ticket sales they need to reach to have a blackout lifted. Packers think they will avoid it but the other two look to be in real danger. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/early-lead/wp/2014/01/02/nfl-blackouts-packers-bengals-colts-face-deadlines/?tid=hpModule_a4df998e-86a7-11e2-9d71-f0feafdd1394
  15. What does this mean? Is it a bad injury? A metatarsal is just a bone in your foot, there are a few of them (and are numbered if I'm not mistaken) and I think it just means he injured his 5th one. Not some degree of injury or anything. It's been a while since I took an anatomy class though.
  16. Does that surprise you? I think it's a pretty fair line and probably could be talked into taking the 49ers if it got up to 49ers -5 or 6
  17. Kyrie to have an MRI on his knee. Said he heard a pop.
  18. Guys on The Score said the Thursday date is mostly due to the holiday schedule this week (said they weren't gonna do it on NYE or day) and the fact they were still in it up until yesterday and might not have had the prep time to do what they need for it (teams like TB, CLE, etc. all know their fates and were preparing for today for a while). Said the timing doesn't signal any major transactions or announcements. FWIW.
  19. That looks about right, though I could see Wisconsin losing fewer games. They got lucky with the schedule (only get MSU and OSU once and both @ WIS).
  20. Well a McDaniels hire by Cleveland would seemingly take them out of the running to sign Cutler. The Browns were one of the teams I thought may make him an offer.
  21. Ricketts got a federal tax credit for hiring and employing a disabled senior citizen to manage the team
  22. I kinda like Hammel (averages 93 MPH on his FB), he was someone I wanted early on when I saw projected FA lists. He'd be a good addition to the mid/back end of the rotation, imo.
  23. 30% if I had to put a number to it with no mathematical basis.
  24. What receivers made it over him? Just by a quick guess a few I suspect are, Calvin, Vincent Jackson, Garcon maybe (just because he can have like 110+ catches by years end).
