  1. Probably because Soler died mid season last year and hasn't been seen since. In all seriousness, that's a big part of why I voted for Almora. He hasn't been the most durable guy thus far, but he at least played a decent amount and was good when he did. Soler was swinging bats at opposing players (not a huge factor in my mind btw) and broken after that. I'm still a huge fan and it's amazing that a guy as highly regarded as he is is only ranked 3rd or 4th in the system, but I need to see him healthy and productive before I get fully back on board. I get what you are saying but it's not like Almora has been the picture of health, FWIW, Almora only played in like 6 more games and had like 25 more PA than Soler last year. Regardless they are two excellent prospects whose values will be derived from different measures. Who is 3, 4 or 5 is really just semantics.
  2. I feel like that's along the lines of what ABTY was saying a month or two ago. For those who haven't clicked, it says the Cubs would work with Fox locally to take the WGN games as sort of a bridge to anotherRSN deal after the CSN deal is up. But isn't the current CSN deal up after 2016? Sure would be nice to capitalize on that before 2020 or 2019.
  3. He is, as long as he doesn't have the physical breakdowns that 7 footers can/usually have. There's no doubt Wiggins is a special talent but I think he could really benefit from staying another year. Not that I think that's at all possible. He's gonna be a top 7ish pick at worst.
  4. Wow, didn't expect Almora to be this big of a favorite over Soler.
  5. Or that he makes the notion that PEDs weren't around in 1986 or the years surrounding it.
  6. Jesus Christ, Shaughnessy.
  7. I never really thought of the Angels as a suitor for Tanaka, figured they'd be more in on the Garza/Ubaldo market than on him. You can't rule out the Dodgers with their blank check ownership group, but maybe they are trying to be a little responsible with also knowing they are going to have to give the biggest contract ever to a pitcher in the next yearish.
  8. As to your Soler, I think CJ will take the largest leap this year. And that's quite a thing since his year was already outstanding. But I think just by repeating it and adding some innings and looking a bit meatier will be enough to catapult in in the prospect rankings. The exciting this is, all 5 of our top guys have that sort of talent to make a huge leap over where they already are. It's hard to chose. I'm voting Almora for now but it's hard to chose between him Soler and CJ. Candelario is my pick to take the biggest leap of any prospect this year
  9. That is what my personal 3-5 is as well
  10. I voted for Soler and it switched mine to Johnson too. Odd. I wonder if the other two votes are legit votes for Johnson or the same problem. ETA: Pierce down to one vote. I voted for Soler too and it gave it to Pierce. Just switched it. So only one left for Pierce (which I'm guessing is really someones vote for Soler).
  11. Soler Also, Craig Olt?
  12. Rodgers
  13. Derrick Holland out until midseason after falling in his home and hurting his knee. http://espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/story/_/id/10276016/freak-knee-accident-knocks-texas-rangers-pitcher-derek-holland-midseason
  14. I feel like Baez's floor is some variation of what Carlos Gomez has done offensively the last two years (outside of SB).
  15. I still don't get this narrative, he wasn't even close to a bust. He came closer to fulfilling his contract than he did to busting it.
  16. Please let 17 Seconds secretly be Masahiro Tanaka. Please. No he just heard him signing Go Cubs Go at an airport bar
  17. I remember a month or so ago there was a theory that there definitely would be a fair amount of guys who wouldn't vote for him knowing he was a lock to get in and they would use his vote on someone else they thought might have a hard time even staying on the ballot for next year, let alone get elected this year, they think is worthy. I get that line of thought, I guess.
  18. From Deadspin
  19. Yet that Gurnik guy suffers no consequences for basically filling out an obvious troll ballot. Crass also, who submitted a blank ballot. Also the guy(s) who voted for Jacque Jones and Armando Benitez
  20. Regarding Morris and guys voting him in mostly for his WS game. Doesn't the HOF have an area dedicated to individual performances/games/moments even for non HOF guys? I would imagine they acknowledge that game/performance in the area, isn't that enough for Morris? I don't know because I never have, nor will I, ever step foot in the HOF.
  21. Doesn't NSBB have some sort of Cubs press pass? Lets send a rep with a list of questions and rebuttals during the convention for Ricketts. Anyone here have journalism experience? (Other than Bruce Miles) Send SSR

  23. It's a pretty safe bet that the Cubs will be better this year than last if for no other reason than that they don't have as many tradable guys who might make a difference. Regardless, I think they will improve. I think they should improve as well, but the offense still has potential to be below average to downright awful in almost every category.
